This is Gonna Hurt

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha, nor do I make money from this fanfiction! It belongs to Rumiko Takahashi! I am just a fan.

I don't want you to think I'm just some whiny bitch, complaining about the things that were done wrong to me. I deserve everything that has happened in my life. Some people call it fate; I call it karma. Shit happens for a reason, and this was my chance to change my life. Sometimes when bad shit happens, not everyone goes for the better route to change their life. I'm not one of those people. I am changing my life. It may take a while to regain my true self once more; I may not be the same as I once was. Maybe a little tattered, thickened skin, but at least I'll be myself and not what the industry has tried to make me.

My art is going to rip the stitches from healing wounds. It is going to slice open scars to pick at the meat hiding beneath it. I'm not saying this is going to be easy or that it is going to be a Candy Land reality. Real life isn't some bubblegum – happy ending. No, this is going to hurt. It is meant to hurt because it will draw out everything you hate about yourself and make you bleed. Real art sparks controversy; real art is filled with the sorrows from past experiences. Art is the raw form of the pain, and the lessons you learned from that hurt. You want people to see what you have overcome.

The consistent ringing caused Kagome to groan. Pushing herself away from her desk, she snatched her phone from the dresser. The flashing number that came upon her screen was one she did not recognize. For the next few rings, she pondered whether to answer or to let it go directly to voice-mail. The article was calling her name, but, if it was a business call, the article would have to wait. Finally, Kagome came to a decision and set the phone to her ear. "Hello?"

"Ms. Higuarshi?" The voice on the other end was too chipper for her own liking.

"This is she."

"Ms. Higurashi, this is Miroku Yamamoto. I am from Kaze Entertainment Agency and I was wondering if you had any openings available for a shoot? I heard you were the best of the best from Gumo Studios..."

"Listen, Mr. Yamamoto, I am no longer associated with Gumo Studios. I am now a freelance photographer." Kagome snapped.

"I understand, it is quite a tragedy they lost such valued talent -- as I was saying, I would like you to do a shoot with one of my new models. His name is Sesshomaru Taisho,"

The photographer only sighed. She had to give him credit though, the man had persistence and balls.

"I don't do magazine photography anymore, Mr. Yamamoto,"

"Please, call me Miroku. I understand, but we are not looking for pristine photos. Just take a look at him, and then decide?" He pressed on.

Kagome groaned. How she wished to hang up the phone on him, but he was good at his job and now the curiosity was killing her. What exactly did this Sesshomaru Taisho look like?

"Fine, E-mail me the details and I will set up a place for us to meet. I hate to cut this conversation short, but I must get back to work. I have a second draft to finish," she caved. Damned agents never gave up. The model in question seemed to have gotten a good one too.

"Splendid! I shall get to that right away. Have a wonderful day Ms. Higurashi." The soft click on his end signified that their conversation was over. Kagome hung up her phone and stretched. She looked at the computer screen. The second draft would have to wait; she was exhausted, and she needed some coffee.

Using the desk as leverage, Kagome stood up and made her way to the kitchen. As she waited for her coffee to finish brewing, she eyed the flatted picture frame sitting on the counter. She was tempted to pick it up, the mild OCD within her wanting everything to be perfect. But she couldn't look at him just yet. He was the biggest mistake she had ever made. The lies he had spun to keep her around  and she believed them. She was a fool, blinded by ignorance – which seemed to be a reoccurring theme in her life.

He played her like the fool she was. It pained her to think she was that naive, to believe he loved her over the bitch she thought was her friend. The lies they both spun around her didn't nearly hurt as much as the final betrayal. She believed he was her forever. He was there helping her through her accident, and, once he realized she would never be the same girl, he fell in love with her and left. He left her for her friend and her boss. Kagome was learning from that mistake even now; she wouldn't ever trust so willingly again.

It was easy enough to say she was going to learn something from this project as well.
