The Encounter

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or any of the characters, and neither do I make profit from my writings. I acknowledge Rumiko Takahashi for introducing these wonderful characters into our lives.

Sesshoumaru soared above the village after dropping off a new kimono for Rin.  It’d been three years since the final battle with Naraku, and he had decided it was time Rin learned to live among humans again.  Jaken was in tow on his pelt as usual when he pointed out that the miko Kagome was back and sitting with his half-brother below.

Kagome shouted out to him, “Hi brother-in-law!”

Sesshoumaru glared at her, as if he would be related to a human in any way.  She and his half-brother weren’t even mated yet!   He immediately dismissed the delusional girl because he felt a disturbance in his lands that he had to get to presently.  As he approached his lands, he realized the magnanimous youki was stronger than he originally thought.  He thought it best to drop off Jaken at one of their frequently attended caves when on patrol.  Jaken squawked continuously, “Why master? Let me take care of it! Don’t leave me!”

Sesshoumaru glared back at Jaken, “I will go. You will stay here.”

Since his piercing gaze promised death, Jaken started groveling on the ground, “Yes master! Yes!”

Sesshoumaru’s “Hnn” was his only acknowledgment as he took to the skies again. As he soared he realized he hadn’t hunted in his true form in a while and at that thought gave a chilling smile.  With a surge of youki, he felt his face elongate, fangs grow, body stretch as his fur merged along his back, and a tail grow out from his tail bone. With a shake and a gleeful growl (not that he’d ever admit he was gleeful), Sesshoumaru, transformation complete, ran through the sky.

As Sesshoumaru neared his destination, he could hear a female’s shout and the large growl from what he now knew was a wild boar youkai. Ignoring the human for now, he charged out of the sky for the boar, but before he could relish the feeling of the boar’s flesh in his fangs, the youkai gave a great shriek and turned to ash.  Sesshoumaru, more than a little miffed at having his kill stolen from under his nose, quite literally, glared at the human.

The female gave him a cocky smirk and asked him, “So are you the taiyoukai governing these lands? A bit sloppy if you ask me.  That boar was trying to either eat or marry ever female it could find.  I mean, men ARE pigs, but that was going a little too far in my opinion, so I banished his soul and destroyed his body.”

The human gave an exaggerated sigh. “So are you going to give me any trouble too?  I’ve really had enough for one day.  So if you’ll excuse me.”

The female, who Sesshoumaru determined was a dark miko by her aura, started to turn and walk away.  He was not going to have a dark miko trespass on his lands, much less talk to him in that manner!  Sesshoumaru gave a great growl and a leap to squash the human flat for her insolence. But as he descended from the sky, he felt a strong power engulf him.  When he landed on the ground, not only had he missed the dark miko, but now he was looking up at her!

“There!” she said, with a smirk and playful and evil gleam to her eye, “now go off and be a good little puppy won’t you?  I’m tired.  Good day!”

The dark miko strode off into the forest and disappeared leaving a dumbfounded and very small Sesshoumaru staring blankly after her.  The only thought that came to Sesshoumaru’s mind right then was, unbelievably, a curse (which he blamed on Inuyasha’s influence of course), of: ‘Well, Shit!’
