Still, I Rise

Chapter One

Still I Rise

Tick tock, tick tock. Kagome held her breath as she watched the clock hanging against the white wall. It was only a few seconds before she would be set free from this hellhole called a classroom. Her classmates were also on the edges of their seats. It was the last day of finals and it was the semester before summer vacation. Tick tock, tick tock. 'Three seconds left!' she thought. A bead of sweat slowly made its way around her forehead and down her flushed cheeks. "There!" Kagome yelled. The bell rang as she grabbed her belongings and dashed out of the large lecture room. Students filed into the hallways blabbing about their plans for the summer.  Unfortunately, Kagome was stuck doing major research on Japanese history. On her first day of college, she was forced to join a club for remedial students which was the result of her struggles throughout high school. Unfortunately, her memories refused to supply her with the reason why.

Kagome wove her way around a string of people. She spotted a familiar face and frantically waved a hand in the air. "Sango!" Sango looked up to see her friend shoving her way through the crowd and nearly skipped towards her. "You look happy for someone who has tons of work to do over the summer." Sango said.

Kagome tucked her overgrown bangs behind her ears and smiled. "Guess what?" She said, ignoring her comment.

"You finally asked out that guy in your biology class?"

"The one with the mole?"

Sango shook her head. "The one with the nice ass."

Kagome's cheeks turned pink. "N-no. That's not it."

Sango began walking away from Kagome. "Then we have nothing to discuss."

Kagome pouted. "Can you...just listen?" Kagome whined. Sango stopped and turned to her friend who was giving her famous puppy dog eyes. Her big round eyes were gleaming with the tears that threatened to overflow. Sango sighed. "What?" Kagome smiled and wiped her false tears. She pulled out a flyer from her bag and handed to her friend. Sango took the paper and inspected it. "What is it?" she asked. Kagome threw her hands in the air saying, "An all-expense paid trip to the Museum of Historic Artifacts!!"

Sango frowned. "I don't want to go."

"Why not?" Kagome whined again.

"Because...it's boring." she explained.

"What kind of excuse is that?!"

"Why the hell would I want to go to the museum with the geeks in YOUR club?" Sango retorted.

Kagome fell silent. Sango glared at Kagome as she nervously chewed on her lip. "Okay, I wanted you to go because I don't have a partner for this project and I was hoping someone kind and selfless would help me out." Kagome explained. Sango walked up to Kagome and patted on her shoulder. "Good luck finding that person." she said.

Kagome surprised her friend by suddenly falling on her knees and pressing her forehead against the floor.

"Kagome?!" Sango looked nervously looked around and smiled at pedestrians that walked by. "Okay! I'll go, I'll go!" she whispered frantically at the girl who begged and cried out pleas to her. "Just stand up!"

At the good news Kagome cheered and hugged Sango's legs.

“On one condition."

Kagome peeked up from under the folds of Sango's pants.

"You have to wash my clothes for the summer."

Kagome nodded. "Alright, it doesn't sound that bad."

"And..."

"And?" Kagome asked. "There’s more?"

"I have a blind date with this guy next week. I can't make it so I want you to take my place." Sango explained.

Kagome jumped to her feet. "I’d rather jump off a cliff than do that." she said bluntly.

Sango crossed her arms and once again walked away. "I guess you'll have to find someone else."

Kagome's eyes widened and she pounced on Sango's back. "Alright! I'll do it."

"Wow look at these statues!" Kagome stared with her mouth agape at the tall structures that stood within the main hall of the museum. "Yeah, whatever." Sango sat on a nearby bench. "You look bored." Kagome stated. "Don’t worry about me. I agreed to help you, right?" Sango said.

"Hello everyone! If I could get your attention, please." Everyone in the crowd turned to look at a short fat man who waddled to the center of the crowd. "I'll be your tour guide for today. So if you follow me we will begin." The tour guide waddled in front of everyone and they followed.

An hour into the tour and the Sango was already exhausted. "This is getting boring." Sango said, sighing. She looked over at Kagome who was furiously jotting notes down. "I said, I'm bored."

Kagome continued to write some notes down and mumbled a 'Mmm Hmm'. Sango grabbed hold of Kagome's wrist and pulled her away from the group and into a closed-off area of the museum. "Sango! What the hell are you doing? We could get into trouble!" Kagome said. If they found out about this, it’d be bye-bye diploma. She examined the area they were in. "What is this place?" she asked. Sango was relieved that she calmed down a bit.

Sango scanned a nearby article. "This is the demonic exhibit." she said.

"Demons?" A large painting grabbed Kagome’s undivided attention. It was a picture of a beautiful creature sitting casually on a luxurious throne. He wore a white yukata with gold obi. His silver tresses fanned out around his broad shoulders. A crescent moon was located on his forehead and purple stripes donned his cheeks. Although his face was stoic, his golden orbs stared into her soul. Kagome averted eyes and they traveled to his full lips and she licked her own. Something stirred at the apex of her thighs and Kagome squeezed them to relieve the feeling.

Kagome's eyes furrowed together as she looked at a familiar woman in the picture. Her head was placed on the creature's lap.  She had chocolate brown eyes and long black hair that descended over her shoulders. She noticed how the creature placed his clawed hand on her head as if he was being possessive. She looks familiar...

"Cool. Look at this artifact!" Sango said. Kagome tore her eyes from the painting and she looked to where Sango was standing. It seems that she was looking at a piece of rock with ancient hieroglyphics carved into it.

Kagome made one last look at the painting and walked over to the artifact. “What do you think it means?” Sango asked. Kagome placed her hand on the piece of rock.

“I don’t think we’re supposed to touch that (-__-).” Sango said. “I-I think I can read it.” Kagome mumbled.

Sango cocked her head to the side. “What?” Kagome turned to Sango. “This was part of my research. I read books with these symbols in them. Now let’s see what it says?” Kagome traced her fingers over the carvings. “Sem Yis Emo Xyas.” Sango crossed her arm and quirked and eyebrow. “Huh?”

“He will rise again and once more become great. I think that’s what it means. Ow!” Something zapped Kagome’s fingers. Sango grabbed Kagome’s shoulder and pulled her back. “Kagome, what did you do?”

“What?”

Sango pointed at the artifact. “It’s glowing!”

Kagome watched as the pink aura surrounded the artifact. The ground suddenly shook. Both girls fell and watched as the rock split in two. “Let’s get out of here!” Sango yelled. Kagome nodded and followed. When they reached outside, the tour group and everyone that worked in the museum were outside and the ground ceased shaking. The fat tour guide waddled toward the two and asked if they were alright. “I know it’s common for California to have earthquakes, but this one came without a warning.”

Kagome and Sango looked at each other. Neither of them knew the dangers that were yet to come.

“Jack! We’ve finally found it. We found the legendary Western Lord’s grave!” Joseph, a highly acclaimed archeologist, jumped and whooped for joy. They were on-site deep within Japan’s forest. Joseph traveled far and wide searching for this priceless tomb, and now he was overjoyed to complete his lifelong goal. “They told me that I was crazy, but now I can prove them wrong. Come, help me push this rock aside.” Jack scurried over and helped his teacher roll the rock away. A dark entrance was revealed to them. Jack was known to be a cowardly man - he shook in fear. “Come on, let’s go in.” Joseph went in and disappeared into the darkness. Jack reluctantly followed.

Within the tomb, torches lit up preternaturally. “How strange.” Jack mumbled. The narrow passageway opened to a large room filled with gold and riches. In the far corner there were two crystals and within them, two beings. Joseph quickly walked over to the artifacts and picked up a large sword. “The Tetsusaiga! It’s a sword that contains its own demonic power.” He explained. Jack slowly walked over to the two crystals. One contained a tall man with long silver hair and markings on his face. From his research he guessed that he was Lord Sesshoumaru. The other one had ears on top of his head. That one was supposed to be his brother.

Jack heard a crack and gasped. “J-Joseph!” Jack wailed.

“What?” Joseph was playing around with the sword he found.

“The crystals! They’re breaking out!”

Joseph put down the sword and walked up to Sesshoumaru’s crystal. “What? That's preposterous! Why would the crystals be breaking?” The crystal suddenly broke and a hand was instantly around Joseph’s neck. Jack’s eyes nearly popped out of his head.

“You. Why are you here?” A deep growling voice rumbled throughout the large room. Joseph scratched and clawed the demon lord’s hand. In return, Sesshoumaru squeezed harder until the archeologist’s face turned blue. Joseph finally went limp. Sesshoumaru dropped the slender body and glared at the shaking human. “Where is my mate?” Jack scrambled and bowed at his feet.

“Lord Sesshoumaru, I know not of what you speak of.”

The other crystal broke and Inuyasha stumbled forward. “What the fuck?” He wailed. “What the hell happened?! When I get my hands on her I'll–”

Inuyasha spotted Sesshoumaru in the nude, a human and a dead body. “Aw jeez, Sesshoumaru.”

“Where’s my mate?”

Inuyasha frowned. “She should still be alive. I mean, how else we can be here? She must have recited the ancient scriptures.” Inuyasha streched and fliched a bit when he felt the bones in his body popped. He's been stuck in that rock for quite sometime. He then rummaged through the treasures for anything that could cover his nudity.

“Human.” Jack jumped at Sesshoumaru’s rough voice.

He bowed before him. “Y-yes, milord.”

“Go find a priestess. I need to find my beloved.”

He looked up to find the Taiyoukai staring off into space. “And what shall I tell her?”

Sesshoumaru glowered at the human before him. “Tell her that this Sesshoumaru has risen.”
