Sand

Prompt: Sand

Word Count: 375

As Sesshomaru closed his phone from the conversation he just finished with Kagome, he looked at the proposal he was working on before the call.  So another drop of sand had fallen in the ripple of time, and this time his foolish half-brother messed up. He’d known it would only be a matter of time, and when that would happen he would be there for Kagome. He could now set his plan in motion and obtain the woman of his dreams.

Standing he told his secretary he was leaving and strode to his personal elevator. The Small Brew Café was located about five blocks away, and was a favorite place of Kagome’s. During his brother’s relationship with Kagome, Sesshomaru took it upon himself to be there for the girl. Slowly they became friends and Sesshomaru fell for her.

As Sesshomaru found his destination, he saw Kagome sitting in their normal booth, their normal order already on the table. However, instead of a smile there were tears on Kagome’s face. Growling to himself, he silently vowed that he never wanted to see tears on her face again. They just didn’t look right on her normally happy and cheerful face.

When Kagome spotted him, she sent him a watery smile. He watched as she wiped away the tears, attempting to look like her normal self. But the smile was absent and didn’t quite reach her eyes, which were watering with more tears.

“It will be fine Kagome. We’ve always known that my half-brother was an idiot. I’m sorry that this happened though,” Sesshomaru said as he sat down. Kagome averted her eyes down towards her hot cocoa.

“I’m sorry I interrupted you at work and made you come here to sit with me. I won’t be much company today.”

“I’m glad to come Kagome. Aside from Rin, you’re the only other person who I tolerate in my life.” Kagome looked up to see one of the rare times Sesshomaru let his mask down. Suddenly she felt much better and gave a small smile that reached her eyes, causing Sesshomaru to give a small smile back. As another drop of sand fell in the wrinkle of time, Sesshomaru thought that maybe this time it wouldn’t be so bad.
