Chasing Faeries

Kagome leaned against her mates shoulder as they watched their seven year old twins and their five year son run around the meadow. Kaori and Shizuka paused for a moment then grabbed Daisuke and pulled him close. The trio whispered for a moment then took off again, arms outstretched as if to catch something. The three walked toward their parents, arms in the holding position. When they reached the place that Sesshoumaru and Kagome were sitting they all threw their arms out, giggled and ran off again.

Kagome sighed, looking at her children, “I remember when I used do that.”

Sesshoumaru looked confused. “Do what? All I see is our spawn running around like puppies chasing their tails.” Kagome lightly smacked him.

“They’re catching faeries. I used to do that with my dad when I was a little girl. We would go to the park near the shrine and I would run for hours, arms outstretched. Whenever I thought my arms were full of faeries I would run back to my dad and dump them in his lap.” Kagome’s eyes shown with tears at the memories. “Just before he died, he gave me a necklace with a faerie on it. He told me that every single faerie I’d ever given him had gifted him with magic dust and he had a necklace made out of it, just for me. Two days later… he died in a terrible car accident. I never went after faeries again.”

“Instead, you went after demons.”

“I actually caught one too.” She kissed him.

A few days later Kagome gathered up her children and gave them each a gift, a small dog eared faerie pendent on a silky silver chain. “These are special gifts from the faeries you caught and gave to me. Keep it close and it will never let you forget.”

“Momma, how did you know what we were doing?”

She pulled her faerie out, a petite female holding a pale pink jewel. “I chased faeries too.”
