Chapter 20: I Saw Her First

The house should have been quiet this deep into the night.  Everyone should have been in bed hours ago, so Sesshoumaru was surprised to be confronted by an annoyed hanyou upon entering his home.  Inuyasha barely gave him time to close the door before he was upon him, leaning in to sniff suspiciously at the air around him, his white ears perked forward with a tense alertness. 

“I don’t smell waffles.” The younger man’s gruff voice was thick with suspicion. 

“That would be because I did not have waffles.  I thought it was prudent to walk your little girlfriend home.  It is not safe for a human female to be out alone at this time of the night.”

Inuyasha’s face quickly started to turn red as he bristled with possessive indignation.  “I’m supposed to protect her, not you!  That’s my job, I’m her friend.  She’s MINE!”

Gritting his teeth, Sesshoumaru swallowed a growl before it could escape his throat.  His whole body tensed with the desire to show the indulged pup his place.  He wanted nothing more than to challenge the half-breed’s claim.  “You have bequeathed her a very auspicious position brother.  Your protection ensures my protection, or have you forgotten the laws of the pack?”

Pushing past his sputtering sibling Sesshoumaru stormed up to his den.  His rage almost boiled over when the hanyou dared to call after him.

 “Just don’t forget, I saw her first!”
