The Puppy by Riku Ryuu

Here Comes the Bride

The prompt was dragonfly. I hope you notice that for once, I am writing from the view of Kagome! This story mostly focuses on Sesshomaru, so I thought I should change it up a bit for this chapter.

Enjoy.

Kagome faced the mirror before her and looking back at her was a beautiful woman. Though she looked beautiful, she just didn’t look like… herself. Kagome looked over the shoulder of the woman that was her but was not to see that her mother was looking at her with tears in her eyes.

“I still cannot believe that my baby is getting married!” Her mother blew into a tissue that was held in her hand and whipped her tears with the back of the same hand. “Time goes by so quickly.”

“Uh… Sure.” Kagome thought the day had dragged on like a million years as she waited to be married.  Kagome’s elbow started to itch for no plausible reason and she felt inpatient. Suddenly she wished that her marriage could just be jumping over a broom like some cultures had.

“Ready?”

Sesshomaru stood at the end of the room, waiting to for Kagome to come out of the door. He felt like his tie was trying to choke him and that his clothes were too tight. He knew that neither was true, but he still wished for this day to be night and for him and Kagome to be married already.

Toga was sitting in the front row of the pews, chatting with a woman that somehow knew Kagome from classes and Kagome’s mother. On the other side of the church, his mother, who had arrived only an hour before the wedding, sat with a cool expression on her face as she ignored everyone around her. It was a good thing they were far apart or there would be bloodshed and tears. Sesshomaru hoped that he could keep them separated the rest of the day without trouble.

The normal soft music changed and Sesshomaru watched as the bridal party walked forward. He knew most of them from different activities that Kagome had dragged him to, but he did not know all of them because he had missed the rehearsal because of work.

The people joined him in the front and he smiled as Rin, who was wearing a pink fluffy dress, started down the aisle, throwing flower petals every-which-way. Dolly walked next to her and leaped on the petals that came near, but she stayed with her all the way to the end.

The music changed again and the audience rose, to welcome the bride. Sesshomaru’s eyes locked onto the beautiful angel that walked into the room. Kagome took his breath away and filled his heart.

Her grandfather was walking with her, but instead of walking at the correct speed he was going slowly and whispering to her. Sesshomaru frowned, wondering what the old man could be saying.

Sesshomaru saw Kagome’s eyes move around, like dragonflies darting from place to place. He had a bad feeling about the look on her face, a sort of nervous look…

Kagome broke off from her grandfather and ran for the door.

Instantly, Sesshomaru was running after her.

Melissa Jane Walker was bored bored bored. She knew that she had to look awake or else it would mean her job at the little café that paid for her ticket to social happiness. So now she was standing at the counter, waiting for someone to order, but her focus was on the window. She wished that something would happen, something that would bring her business so that she would not have to stand around doing nothing.

A woman in a wedding dress ran by the window, surprising Melissa into dropping the cup she was holding. Some people in the café noticed the woman and quickly went to the nearest window to watch. Melissa saw a handsome man in a tuxedo run by only seconds after the woman.

Melissa smiled. There was going to be plenty of business today now.

“Kagome!” Sesshomaru yelled after his escaping bride. “Come back here!”

“No! I don’t want to get married in front of all those people!!!” Kagome yelled back. Lucky for her, the sidewalks were on the empty side so she could run without having to worry about running into someone. Sesshomaru wished suddenly for a large crowd.

Sesshomaru lengthened his stride and finally caught up to Kagome. He grabbed her and forced her to come to a stop, hoping that she would not fight him.

“What do you mean you don’t want to get married in front of them? You were the one that invited everyone!” Kagome did not fight him, but Sesshomaru did not let go in case she tried to make a break for it again.

“I changed my mind! All of them were just watching me and it was horrible. I felt the cold chill of your mother’s eyes, the disapproving ones of my grandfather, and the hope in my mothers. All I felt from your dad was ‘grandchildren’ repeated over and over in my head. I don’t want to do it!”

Sesshomaru sighed and picked Kagome up in his arms.

“Vegas it is.”
