Sesshomaru gave his tie a final tug and studied his reflection in the mirror before him. Today was the first day of his internship with a respected law office and he wanted to present a perfect image. Now that school was over with for a while he needed to find something to fill his days with or he would find himself spending too much time with the luscious woman sharing his house. The very thought had him frowning to himself.

Kagome had been staying with him for a week now. The time had only caused Sesshomaru to worry about getting use to it. Every day when he came home, she greeted him. Every day she sat down with him for a meal and just talked about random things that had happened throughout the day or things she had thought of. Every day she gave him a kiss before he left for his classes or before she left for her own. Every other day Dolly left his bed to sleep with Kagome. It was perfect, too perfect, and Sesshomaru knew that it could not last.

And worst of all, he wanted more.

Sesshomaru wanted to spend his day with the two people closest to him. He wanted to play games with them and forget all his other responsibilities to drown in their love. They asked nothing of him in return and he couldn’t feel that way for either of them. If he started to love, if they leave- no, when they leave- he didn’t know if he could live in the house alone again. He was greedy for the feeling they gave to him freely and he didn’t want to starve when he was alone again.

There was a gentle knock against his bedroom door and Sesshomaru forced his thoughts away, fearful they would show on his face. He walked to the door and opened it to see that Kagome stood in the hallway wearing a fluffy blue robe and ridiculous bunny slippers of the same color. Her hair was mussed from sleep and her eyes were blurry for the same reason. She looked incredible warm and Sesshomaru wanted nothing more than to stay home and stay in bed with her.

“Did you need something?” He asked, hiding his feelings with practiced ease. Kagome gave a little yawn and her hand went over her mouth.

“Yeah, I set an alarm so that I could see you off but you haven’t left yet. I just wanted to say bye before I go back to sleep.” She smiled at him warmly and without warning leaned in and gave him a peck on the lips. “Have fun at work.”

Just as quickly as she had come she was gone again, off in the direction of her room where a soft puppy waited for her. Sesshomaru watched her back disappear and fought back the hunger to follow her. He had to leave before it was too late.

Sesshomaru picked up his briefcase and quickly walked through the hallway and out of the house. He escaped out of the front door and locked it behind himself. Trouble was he couldn’t lock his feelings away so easily.
