Sesshomaru sighed and looked longingly towards the exit. He knew that he could make a break for it and get out before Kagome even noticed, but in return she would break him. And he had thought that Valentine’s Day was hard…

“Sesshomaru, look at his bunny!” Kagome held up the box so that he could see into it. Really, Sesshomaru had no idea why she would eat that rabbit but not real rabbit. So what if it was cute, rabbits were made to be eaten.

“And look, it is seventy percent off!” Kagome put the rabbit into the already overflowing cart that Sesshomaru pushed.

Really, Sesshomaru had no idea how his girlfriend had talked him into going shopping with her. One moment he was in his house, refusing to go anywhere near stores on the dreaded day, and the next he was pushing a shopping cart while Kagome oohed and awed over the treats that were now anywhere from half priced to seventy percent off. Of course, that he didn’t mind so much. It was the other shoppers that made him not want to go in the first place.

Instead of oohing and awing over the ridiculous trappings of a holiday already past, the women that inhabited the aisles had their eyes glued to him.  He felt oddly naked under their stares though he wore more than one layer of clothing.

“I think the real holiday is the day after Valentine’s Day.” Kagome said with a grin, grabbing another package of chocolate and throwing it in the cart.

Sesshomaru brought the last bag into his house and slumped down against the door. There was a very excited bark before Dolly rushed forward and jumped on the man who had shopped until he dropped. Kagome walked into the room from the hallway, obviously finished with putting away all the other bags in the kitchen.

“Come on Sesshomaru, it wasn’t that bad.” Kagome reached down at grabbed the bag out of his hand. Sesshomaru got off of the floor and followed her into his kitchen. She opened a cupboard and all he could see in it was chocolate. He had reluctantly agreed to house the chocolate in his house, or at least he had tried to seem that way. Inside he was quite content to think of how often Kagome would have to come over to finish off all of the sweets she had bought.

“You are welcome to any of the candy as thanks for helping me out.” Kagome said after putting away the last bag of candy. She turned and gave Sesshomaru a big hug before kneeling down to pet Dolly. “I have to go back home now, but I’ll be around later today.” She got up and headed for the door. “Remember not to let Dolly have any chocolate!”

Sesshomaru blinked at Kagome’s retreating back. He wished that she didn’t have to go, but it was for the best. They couldn’t spend all their time together; she would probably go mad from the silence while he would dream of peace.  He loved her, really he did, but he was not sure if they could survive each other. He sighed at the thought.

On impulse, Sesshomaru opened the cupboard and looked over the candy stored there. Grabbing a chocolate bar, he tore the wrapper off and took a bite. He wanted to understand Kagome more, so he might as well start with her love of candy.

***

Kagome stared at the sight before her. Candy wrappers covered the table from about ten different candy bars. There was a brown handprint on the edge that made her wonder if a thief had broken in. She had only been gone for about three hours but something had happened while Sesshomaru and Dolly were alone.

There was a thump from the living room. Kagome ran towards the noise, worried that someone was hurt. What she found was even more surprising than the wrapper mess.

The furniture in the living room was all pushed against the walls, leaving a large empty space in the center of the room. Sesshomaru was on his stomach on the floor, Dolly cuddled up against his side. Kagome rushed forward, visions of Sesshomaru being hurt and being knocked out playing through her mind. Only a foot away, Kagome paused when she heard a loud snore come from the man. A giggle bubbled up and she tried to keep it in but could not. The pair did not twitch at her laughter, clearly exhausted by whatever they had been up to. Kagome connected the dots and figured out what must have happened.

She should have told Sesshomaru that a crash always followed a sugar high.
