The ruined village was still smoking and the smell of burnt fresh that saturated the air was enough to make her gag. Horror struck by the amount of destruction in the tiny village, she turned to look at her companions who were studying the scene with resigned acceptance. Miroku caught her eye and before she could form her question, he and Sango were already heading down towards the village to look for a shovel. Inuyasha grunted in annoyance but he did not hesitate to follow the them down to the village to help with the burials.
    “Miko, why is it that your companions have left you here to enter that village?” asked a deep voice behind her. Turning to look up at the remote face of her newest companion, Kagome sighed and turned her face away.
    “They’re burying the dead so we can say a few prayers. Sorry about the delay.” When he did not answer, Kagome left him to sit and watch her friends. “How could those animals do that to those people?!” Kagome muttered, watching her friends pick up the mutilated body of a woman.
    “Does the answer not seem apparent, miko? It is humans we consider animals.”
