Father's Duty

Kunai flew with accuracy that no one had ever questioned, her twin not far off, watching as she worked off her anger, the training ground taking the brunt of the ire that she as a delicate Uchiha female was not supposed to have, or at the very least show off. Itachi had always played the willing pawn his family had wanted him to, Kagome had been the same, twin prodigy that had done everything that had ever been asked of them. A childhood? What was that, it had been given in the great name of Uchiha. Fun? Neither of them knew what the word meant unless it was taken during one of those rare moments.

And now, they were taking their freedom away as well. At Seventeen, Itachi had at least been able to do something he had wanted, like taking a lover, Kagome had not. And now, they, their family, and village had bartered her away to bring in a new clan that had a new amazing clan Kekkei Genkai. The Taishou, very much like the Inuzuka were a dog clan, and it had been in the Uchiha’s favor to set this deal up. Since the Kyubi had attacked some fourteen years before, the Taisho and the Leaf had a loose alliance. It was shaky at best, their leader was reluctant to join with any village because of who easily they were pulled into war, but in recent years that same clan head had come to change his mind.

It was said that alliances he had once held had fallen through when he had taken on a mistress to produce a second heir when his first wife had been diagnosed barren after the rough birth of his heir long before. The child born from the mistress was some young thing of around ten, while the elder heir was twenty-one.

With his previous alliance base shaken, it seemed that the Taisho, who had saved the Yondaime’s life, had come to Konoha to make the alliance official. This was something that had not happened since the alliance with Uzushiogakure, the doomed village. The ramifications though were that there was to be an arranged marriage to bind them to Konoha. But that was not all, no, to insure that all would play out well, the wedding couple was to produce heir’s for both clan’s, meaning at least two offspring.

To anyone around this would not be all that bad possibly, and it wouldn’t have been if her father, Fugaku hadn’t offered her hand up. It was no secret that the village as an over all had blamed the Uchiha who’d been known for being able to control anyone or anything in the case of a summons with their Sharingan’s, and had since that fateful day fallen out of the favor of the village they helped create. Still, with this marriage, Fugaku hoped that aiding in cementing the new clan in their folds would not only earn them favor back, but give them a powerful ally in anything that may come up.

Kagome’s opinion on the matter had not been taken into account, and well lets just say that neither she or her mother, let alone Itachi or Sasuke were on speaking terms with the clan head. In fact, it was pretty much a war zone in their home, an army of one against a family united. Something that was totally rare, at least in their house hold where usually everyone fell to the fathead’s demands.

The worse part Kagome thought, as her Red eyes glazed over in pure unadulterated rage, was that if asked she might have stepped up to do it. She was used to being a pawn as was her elder brother Itachi. Some part of her had always assumed that she would marry Shisui, but the contract had been annulled, and her hand given away to some stranger she had yet to meet.

Her anger was that she had not even been told until it was already far too late, and the man would be arriving tomorrow for their wedding. Thus was the reason why as of right now, the landscape around their home was taking a heavy toll in her ire. Having run out of projectiles long ago, she was simply wasting chakra, annoyed, angry, and inwardly afraid. She knew Shisui, had grown up around him. Under neither that boot-licking-suck-up was a brooding, dark, Uchiha, man.  She had no idea what she would be wedding into other then a man that came from a dog clan.

She was dear friends with Hana Inuzuka, and that was the only Inuzuka she could stand. On more then one occasion she had felt like ripping Hana’s little brother’s head off. Any other Inuzuka male she had met had been the same. She almost wanted to cry, but she hadn’t done that in a very long time and she had no plans to start even if she hated her father right now, and even if she wanted to gut him like a fish and say to them that they could go fuck themselves, she would not. Her mother at least had raised her to be better then that. And if…If it was hell, she would have the two offspring and then move back to her clan’s grounds husband be damned.

Itachi was carefully watching his twin, younger then him and a surprise from what he had known, she had always been smaller, supposedly weaker of the pair. Had always had to fight that much harder to stay by his side. He knew right now she was on the verge of breaking down, he knew her anger, felt it more then a plenty himself. The original marriage contract to Shusui had taken him half his life to get used to. To not want to kill their cousin for simply being near his twin and annoying her, even if one day the rights to her would be his. Now, she was to be wed on the marrow to someone only his father had met.

Would this man cheat on her like his father had on his own mother? Would he beat her if she did not do something he wanted or thought? Would he want her weak and submissive? Would he be loud and abrasive like most of the Inuzuka were prone to?

All these things he couldn’t help but wonder, and damn his father for setting this arrangement. His own bride was to come from this clan as well, but at least he, being male would be allowed to choose, as Kagome was being the official sacrificial  lamb on the alter. He did not stop her from depleting her normal chakra, but soon he would have to. He could see her body shaking now, and deciding it would be better to stop her least she not even be able to walk down the alter in the afternoon. It was times like this that he really hated his father.

Appearing behind her in a poof, she spun to meet him but was caught up before she could do anything. Angry, tear filled crimson eyes looked up into his own onyx orbs. While it was not rare, the elder brother did something that he normally would never do in public, he reached around and held his twin, his hidden other half since birth. The more compassionate and loving of the two. He held her as she finally seemed to allow that Uchiha shell to break, and soaked his chest with silent tears. Her body shaking in silent sobs, as she clung to him.

At least with Shusui she would be closer to home, and not in someone elses compound. She would not have to call to visit, she would still be Uchiha, instead of now, on the morrow, being a Taisho. He pulled her tight to him, allowing them to fall some how gracefully, curling into one another as they were prone to do when too emotional to deal with the outside world. This was worse then both of their first kills put together. He never said a word not needing to, as he rubbed her back, silently promising that everything would be alright. If it wasn’t he would set the world on fire with katon just to make it so. And she was very aware of that fact.

With her ire spent in tearing up their father’s favorite training grounds, as well as through her tears, Kagome silently cried herself to sleep. Itachi just holding her as she fell into a fitful slumber, too tired to care at all at being seen as weak. He stayed there that night for a little longer, holding her, his baby sister to him as if she were the most precious thing in the world. Damning his father to hell and back as many times as he could before forcing himself to stand and bring her home.

She would need her rest greatly to get back what she had spent out. Cradling her to his person, he easily lifted her and headed back home, carrying his precious burden. When he finally made it home only a few minutes later he was greeted by his mother and father. His glare at the older man shutting anything he might have to say up. The Clan head well aware that he had not been the favorite of anyone in his home for well over a week. And while he couldn’t blame them he was the clan head. Tired and wary, he needed to do what was best for his clan, not just as a husband and a father but as the leader and responsible person for everyone that claimed Uchiha as a last name.

Fugaku looked on as Itachi passed him and Mitoko, bringing his precious daughter away to her room. He was well aware of where she had been, what she had been doing, and for once had no ire to show for it. He was wary. It was not something any man wanted to do, handing their daughter over to another male to take care of, especially anyone outside of his clan. With Shusui, he had known the boy, would and could murder him if he harmed Kagome, and no one would have another say on the matter. This was not the case with the Taisho, and he had literally sold his daughter out for a more stable standing for his clan, with this marriage.

He was losing something precious though, and was certain that things would be chilly for him at home by the death glare his eldest, wife, and youngest had been wearing since he had brought word home seven days ago. Still, he was not just a father, or a husband but a clan head. For fourteen years he had listened to grumbling, and anger towards his clan and within for being blamed. This marriage would settle some of that, and give them powerful allies. He could not allow the honor of cementing the Taisho’s in Konoha to go to another clan, especially one like Hyuga, and so upon hearing the plan to have their heir marry into the village, as well as his age, Fugaku, one of the only ones that had a daughter of such an marriageable age had offered her up before Tsume could have.

The result of which was hell on earth for the last seven days, even though he had met the young man, he was relieved to find out that Sesshomaru was nothing like his father, and even if Kagome proved barren after they married he would not take another, the contract would still be valid. He had talked to the young man as much as he could, trying to sooth away the anxiety that had come with his bold and solid declaration that his daughter would wed the Taisho heir. Still he could not ever be certain until Kagome was happy. He worked his children hard, he knew this, had taken away from them things like a childhood because they had been born on the cusp of a war. Young and vulnerable. He had never wanted to loose them and had made them toughen up faster then most so that he would not.

Kagome was his most precious, beloved of all of his children.

He may not show it but she was his baby girl. He had pushed her beyond that of Itachi, just to make sure she too could never be taken away from him, and on the marrow he would be giving her away to people he did not know well. Inside he was breaking, outside he was stern. He took the ire and brunt of his families loathing of him, because it was what he needed to do. Still he hoped that everything worked out well.

That night they had stayed up until Itachi had brought her back, His wife still not really speaking to him more then she needed to had told him that Kagome had really fucked up his favorite training grounds. He could not find it in himself to be upset though, he’d simply have someone clean them up later. Over all he was glad to know that even though she’d been carried home by her brother, she was fine, and just tired. He didn’t sleep that night, how could he knowing that all those he loved and cared for hated him, and that worse he’d be giving his daughter away in a few hours.

Unlike usually, Mitoko was away with Kagome getting her ready, that Inuzuka girl Hana, here as well, all fussing to make her up for the big day. The wedding was to be held at the new grounds that the Taisho had commissioned, a new compound for the new clan. He was banished from the bedroom area’s of the house, and left to sulk and brood with his son’s, neither of which would grace him with anything but a glare. It seemed like hours before the women folk were done, and the men ordered to dress in their own kimono for the event. He didn’t really get to see his daughter as an over all, she was made up like a bride, head down, a veil covering her as they all finally got set.

They walked to the new compound a procession, to were the Sandiame would perform the ceremony, sealing his only daughter’s fate into the hands of a man he barely knew. Inside, he knew he wasn’t the only one breaking at such a thought. It didn’t take them long to get there, and when they did the wedding seemed to already be taking place. It didn’t take long for him to walk his daughter up the isle, and to hand her over. The young man, Sesshomaru was tall, slender, and lean. He had a swimmer’s build, wiry, and lithe, not as stocky as his father. It was a good build for fine ninja skills.

His daughter when he finally saw her was beautiful. As he had expected her to be, yet, he could tell in her dark grey eyes, eyes that were always just a few shades lighter then the onyx all the Uchiha were usually known for, that she was terrified. A father knows these things. Still as much as she was his daughter, she was now Sesshomaru’s wife. No longer his little girl. Her fate sealed, and part of his heart broke at the thought. He preyed to all the kami that would listen, all the ancestors long past and even the tengu demon that was said to have started their devilish clan that his little girl be happy.

Kagome had slept horribly the night before having spent out a great deal of ones energy you would think she’d sleep like the dead. She had not. Woken early in the morning, her mother had brought her breakfast, and had tried her best to sooth her, still it had not seemed enough, and even Hana-chan had come over to help get her ready for this thing. Her usual locks were in a pony tail, utilitarian at best, were taken down, and fashioned into an elaborate form of twists and knots. Painted up like a doll, and clothed in layers of fine silk that seemed odd to her as a shinobi, the young woman knew things were set, her future sealed. She prayed that it would not be a horrid one. Still she had doubts, to be assured.

The day seemed to pass on and before she knew it she stood before her groom, hand given over, listening to the old man drone on. But her attention was on the male that held her hands in his own, cord wrapped around them supposedly binding them as man and wife. He was beautiful, and a Shinobi so she knew that ment he had to be deadly. And while she was not one of those annoying girls that turned out to be fan-girls, she could not help but feel overwhelmed by how beautiful this man was. Taller then herself and Itachi by a full head, he towered over her making her feel small. Part of her did not like that, he was not bulky like some men in their profession were but lean and wiry, but not sickly. His hair seemed to be spun of moonlight as poetic as it sounded, but it did, some how almost glowing and so opposite to her own raven tresses.

His eyes seemed to be solar flares of golden amber, bright and intense, and his voice as he spoke the words that bound himself to her was low and deep, sending shivers down her spin. It was like he was built for seduction. All of this aroused her, all the while making her wary, not knowing what kind of man he was, he had all the visual makings of a womanizer, flirt, and a heart-breaker, he was that beautiful. Her own voice sounded somewhat husky as she repeated his fraise binding her to himself. Binding the contract to start as of the moment, their lips met. No one stopped the wedding as was expected, and when the time came, his lips met her own. She was so small in comparison to him, that she felt dainty, something she rarely felt as she was not a small woman in her own opinion.

The following reception, seemed to fly by as her groom made little small talk, and they both thanked those who came, for coming. Still before she knew it, it was that time when a husband takes his new bride away from prying eyes, and tried out his prize. She was nervous. Having been a ninja for as long as she could remember, her father had forbade her from being taught ijutsu, she was to remain pure in THAT sense until she was married, and here she was, married, to a perfect stranger named General, Killing Perfection. It was a bit awkward. Still, they were in what was to be their home, a home that was more or less an extension of the main house of the compound that his father had set up.

They were far enough away so that a married couple could not be heard doing married things, with enough compartments for a small family. The small family that both his clan and her village wanted them to make. She was so nervous, and he was not helping by being quiet. She hardly knew him yet, she knew this night was unavoidable. As they finally got into their personal chambers, he stood her so that he could really look at her, tilting her chin so that she had to look up at him. It took him some time before he moved about or did anything but his first real act as husband was to take the make up off of her and take a second look.

Sesshomaru for his part had not been pleased with being sold out like this and even his bride to be was in the same boat. Still he did not want to have a horrible marriage. Things were expected of them this night but from there out, things could go at their own pace. Eventually getting all the annoying paint off her face so that he could really see her, he was at least pleased that she was a beauty and that she didn’t seem to need to fill the quiet with pointless babbling. Deciding that he would get it over with he told her what was on his mind, “Tonight, it is expected that I take your maidenhead, beyond that children in the future. I do not want to rush things beyond this night though. It will be just the once, and then from there were can take our own pace.” he seemed to pause while she took all of this in, before beginning again. “I do not want to force you any more then you have been, as WE have been. After tonight we will take things on our own pace.”

Still a bit scared of the night ahead of her, she nodded to his words, a bit nervous and hating herself for feeling that way, finally she said to him, “I’d like that” and the tense atmosphere seemed to change. There was sake in the room, and the new groom felt that his bride might loosen up a bit to get done the things that needed to be done. Pouring her a bit, and some for himself, he watched as she downed it all at once, before, saying that they should try to relax, offering her the bath first. One of the jutsu his clan was known for, at least on a smaller level was the ability to make a natural hot springs, and so when Kagome had found that her bath was to be a hot springs she had easily fallen in love with it. After all that was one of her favorite things to do with Hana.

She didn’t know if her new husband had known this but he was winning points with her if so. Either way before long the alcohol had worked its way into her system and she was relaxed and clean, getting out and allowing him time there was well. It was not long before her refreshed husband came out in only a yakata, the same garb she wore. She watched memorized as her groom came towards her, spell bound as he cupped her face, and she leaned into him. The intimacy came slowly, but seemed to be like a fire heated by coals, taking a while to get going but slow and long burning. All thought the night he worshiped her body, taking her virgin self to heights she had only heard about from friends. When mornings light came he finally let her rest, and rest she did.

After that night, her proof of virgin’s blood was offered up, as was his clan’s traditions, much to her mortification, and Sesshomaru set out to court his lady. After all he would never ever take another, he wanted the one he had to work out to the best, to be happy, and to be happy with her. He was pleased astatically with her for she was a rare dark beauty, and by the fact that she seemed to be able to read him so well without demanding his attentions like so many other females he had known in his past. He attributed this fact to her twin, having met the silent deadly man the day before. For the next few months those in Konoha seemed to watch with baited breath as the pair, married, but still courting dances around one another.

They grew closer and closer, and finally, it was not surprise to any that a child was conceived. Though in the months that had followed her marriage to Sesshomaru, Kagome had yet to speak to her father, it was some months into her pregnancy, her belly starting to show that she finally made a trip home, instead of others coming to see her. She hugged her father and thanked him, glad now, nearly a year later that he had made the arrangement. Fugaku for his part felt that the world had finally righted itself, and as such, with Kagome’s forgiveness, the rest of his family soon followed. All things were right in his world even if they were different and he still sometimes questioned himself.

It was months later, when he watched his only daughter hold her first born son, her happy glowing face, and the face of her husband, proud, and protective, possessively, around her no better then another Uchiha that he finally felt that everything was truly right in the world.
