When The Past Finds You by LadySafire
Chapter 1
Screen:
Kagome stepped from behind the surgical screen with a huge sigh of relief. The operation on the tiny accident victim had gone well and she would live.
She stripped off the gloves and gown heading out to tell the girl’s father the news. She briefly wondered what he was like. She hadn’t net him before the surgery since the girl had been near death from her injuries.
Stepping into the waiting room she spied a tall man staring impatiently out the window.
“Mr Tashio?” Her breath stalled as the male swung around at her voice. “Sesshomaru?!”
The past had arrived at her door.
Squeeze:
She felt her breath squeeze painfully in her chest as he fully turned towards her. She watched as his eyes widened in surprise then narrow into slits.
“Miko, how do you come to be here?” he asked coldly.
“This is where I returned to after…we… “ she hesitated, unsure what to say as his eyes turned frosty at her allusion to the past that had sent her running from him and his half brother.
“The word is affair, miko.” He ground out angrily. “Or in your words, mistake.”
March:
She slid her eyes from his own accusing ones to stare out at the cold March weather blowing outside the hospital. She had tried to forget that day but something always occurred to bring it back.
The day she had betrayed InuYasha, the day before her marriage, with his brother, Sesshomaru. Looking back she could see that it would have been a mistake to bind her life to her hanyou. She still was unsure what had driven her into the Western Lord’s arms that night. All she remembered was the feeling of rightness as he had hungrily kissed her.
His voice interrupted her thoughts. “How in my daughter?”
Oh Kami, how could she have forgotten!
Growth:
Kagome peeked into the hospital room where Sesshomaru’s adopted daughter lay, giggling softly at something her father had whispered. Kagome could see that there had been a lot of personal growth in the cold hearted InuYoukai she had known from the past.
“He hadn’t been cold to her that long ago night.” Her mind supplied traitorously.
He had barley spoken to her since their “reunion” a few days past and that was only quick clipped questions about the young girl’s progress.
Kagome watched enviously as he interacted with Mia and wondered how he would have acted towards the child she had conceived that night in the past
Aware:
Sesshomaru was very much aware Kagome was watching from the doorway as he spoke and teased a smile from his daughter. A part of him still fumed that she had fled and disappeared after their night together.
Did she not know at the time how much she had meant to him? Hadn’t he shown her as he worshiped her body into the night and early morning?
He mentally sighed at his thoughts. Perhaps he had needed to say something to her at the time. He had felt no remorse in taking her that night as he had seen InuYasha slipping into the hut of the Headman’s daughter moments before running into Kagome.
Looking back now, he thought maybe he should have told her.
Touch:
Kagome pushed open the door to and made her way over the bed smiling at the young girl lying there. She had decided to come see her before changing into her surgical scrubs.
“How are you today, Mia?” she asked avoiding the now silent male in the chair. She laid a hand on the on the girl’s arm and touched her pulse.
‘Good. Her heart is strong as is her aura.’ She thought as she sent a pulse of her miko’s energies through to help speed her healing along. She paid no heed to the movement behind her as she continued to bend over the bed and chat with the sweet little girl.
A warm face was suddenly pushed into the crook of her neck and warm breaths tickled against her ear.
A sudden low growl rose and she found herself being dragged towards the door.
Outside in the hall she found blazing gold eyes glaring into her own.
“When were you going to tell me, Kagome?” he spat.
Pink:
Her face flushed pink at his words. Damn it, she should have changed before coming in here today. Blasted youkai and their sense of smell.
She sighed and leaned wearily against the wall. Okay, the cat or pup, was out of the bag.
“You have another daughter. Her is name Miku. “ Kagome said slowly and suddenly a great weight was lifted from her chest. Had it really bothered her that much that her child didn’t have her father in her life?
But now a new worry began to eat at her as she took in Sesshomaru’s glacial expression. What would he do with the news that he was a father biologically? Would he demand the right to see his child? Would he want custody?
Her stomach began to roil in burgeoning fear.
Care:
“Did you not care that I might want to be a part of our child’s life, miko?” he hissed as he stepped forward intimidating her at the harsh youkai beginning to leak from his body.
She nodded jerkily. “I did care, Sesshomaru! I really did but I couldn’t return to the past!” she whispered hoarsely.
“Why didn’t you try to find me here?” he snapped in fury.
Kagome looked into his eyes and answered the truthfully. “Because I didn’t think you had survived to now. I thought I was alone.”
He stared down at her the cold mask of old slipping over his face. “I want to see my daughter. Today.”
“But Sesshomaru, I can’t…” she protested.
“You can, miko, and you will.” He growled as he pushed past her and back into his other daughter’s room.
Survive:
‘She had survived demons trying to kill her for the shards, she had survived a madman’s poison, hell, she had even lived through Naraku’s trying to take over the world. She could most definitely survive a Dog demon’s anger.’ Kagome told herself as she pulled into the park with her daughter.
Looking across the park to where he waited, she gulped. ‘Ok, maybe she could.’ She thought in mild panic.
Kagome hadn’t told Miku who they were meeting this afternoon but her daughter was smart. She was willing to bet as soon as she saw the silver hair and gold eyes so much like her own, her daughter would guess the truth. She hadn’t ever lied to Miku about her former life and where her father had been. The young girl had readily accepted what her mother told her without question.
They got out of the car and crossed the short expanse of grass, stopping before Sesshomaru. Kagome watched as his eyes greedily traveled over his daughter’s slight form.
Miku suddenly pulled her hand from Kagome’s and bowed. “Father, I am pleased to finally meet you.”
Diagnosis:
Kagome read over the diagnosis report of the breast cancer patient she was to operate on in the morning. She knew her mind should be totally on the upcoming surgery but she found it drifting back to the meeting between father and daughter four days before.
‘ Had her daughter been that starved for a father?’ she thought as she remembered the hungry and adoring look in Miku’s eyes.
The two had seemed to get one well together and had even made plans to meet the next day so she could be introduced to her sister. Kagome smiled softly. Miku had been head over the moon when she had learned she had a sibling. When Sesshomaru had explained that they wenren’t sisters by blood but by adoption, Miku had leveled a cool gaze at him. “It isn’t blood that matters but love.”
He had gravely agreed as Kagome smothered a smile. The Western Lord had just been slapped down by his own child.
Sighing she shook her head and tried again to read the records in front of her.
Ribbon:
It had been several months since the meeting between Sesshomaru and Miku. Kagome and Sesshomaru had worked out visitation between them with one stipulation from Sesshomaru. He wanted Kagome to spend equal time with Mia, becoming in a way the girl’s mother. The seven year old had been ecstatic when she had learned she had a sister and down right giddy when told she would spend time with Kagome at the shrine.
In fact, she had spent the last two nights with Kagome, Kagome’s mother, grandfather and Miku. As hungry Miku had been for a father, Mia had been just as hungry for a larger family. The gap toothed –girl turned and grinned happily as Kagome finished tying the blue hair ribbon in her hair and hugged her cheerfully, running from the room down to breakfast.
Kagome looked out the window to see Sesshomaru slowly striding his way towards the house and felt her heart stutter. Since being around Sesshomaru so much she found old feelings she had buried surfacing.
Maybe the miko and doctor was hungering for something as well.
Treatment:
They walked together through the park, the two girls running ahead and shouting back and forth playfully.
“Why did you come to me that night?” Kagome suddenly blurted out, stopping and looking into his eyes.
Sesshomaru gazed down at her, almost as if he were trying to carefully choose his words. “I was coming to tell you of InuYasha’s infidelity and his uncaring treatment of you.” He said bluntly. Did you have any clue as to what he was doing?”
Kagome nodded sadly. “I had heard the rumor a few days before the ceremony was to occur. Before I ran into you, I overheard a couple of the village women discussing it and laughing at how easily he was duping me.”
“Why did you come to my arms that night?” He asked, reaching out and taking her arm gently as he guided her around a broken place in the footpath.
“Because I knew you had feelings for me and I wanted to feel loved, if only for a moment.” She confessed.
Symptoms:
Kagome knew the symptoms very well. Fluttery, nauseous stomach, stuttering, blushing cheeks and terribly torrid dreams at night that left her hot sweaty and very frustrated.
How many times had she gone through this after coming back to the present, after her forbidden night with Sesshomaru?
She glanced at her clock in annoyance at the green numbers show her it was only two a.m. she didn’t have surgery tomorrow but dammit she had had a full day today and had been exhausted when she had come home.
A sudden light knock sounded on her bedroom window. Hesitantly she climbed out of bed and went towards it, her miko energies reading the familiar youkai outside. She opened the window, stepping back as a tall form with molten eyes and silver white hair entered.
“I couldn’t sleep.” He simply said.
“Neither could I.” Kagome replied, suddenly breathless.
Moments later, she was in his arms lips tasting, hands touch. The past was going to be repeated this night.
Inflamed:
Kagome stared in the mirror at her inflamed cheeks, hand pressed against them to try and cool the heat.
Had she..? Had..they? She cracked the bathroom door to reveal a sleeping Sesshomaru in her bed. Oh Kami, what had she done? Why had he come to her tonight?
She sat on the edge of the tub, pulling the robe she had donned tighter around her. She knew now that she loved him but was unable to fathom the feelings he had for her.
Yes, she realized her desired her but she wanted so much more. How did she get into these messes?
Giving a mental groan she leaned forward and placed her head on her knees.
Sesshomaru’s baritone sounded from the door. “Do you regret it?”
Kagome eyes flew up starlted. She hadn’t heard the door open. Licking dry and still slightly swollen lips she replied. “No.”
He knelt at her feet. “Good. Because I don’t either.” And kissed her again.
Support:
Kagome grimaced in pain as she waddled towards the hospital doors, Sesshomaru anxiously supporting her and their daughters worriedly carrying her bag. It had been nine months since that night in her room. She had received three things that glorious night. Sesshomaru’s declaration of love, marriage proposal and the upcoming birth of a child.
A contraction rippled through her again. Okay, may the third wasn’t so wonderful. She turned her head to glare at her husband and mate. “You are getting a vasectomy!” she hissed out, riding the pain and squeezing his hand.
“I seriously doubt that, my love.” He chuckled helping her to sit in a chair.
Hours later they held their son as their girl cooed and discussed who was going to teach him what first. She looked up into Sesshomaru’s glowing eyes as he watched their son.
Her past had caught up with her and she was supremely happy it had.
The End.
