Of Dragonflies and Absurdity

The 14 Symbol Challenge: Dragonfly

Kagome had heard a lot of things in her time in the Feudal Era. She had heard the rush of a flowing river turning into a waterfall, the sound of a breeze shifting through grass blades in an open meadow, the call of a crow in the foggy morning, and her personal favorite: the calming chirps of several different birds in a bright forest.

There was one sound that always stood out amongst the rest, though. It was the voice of the field, the echo of silenced heat… Truth be told, it was the sound that brought her to him. It was the quick, light buzz of dragonflies.

Had it been tomorrow, the day after, or the day after that, Kagome would bet her arrows that she would still remember what had happened then as clear as a summer night sky.

How could she not?

Why would she even forget?

At first, she recalled, they had not spoken solid, sound words to each other. No, they had simply stared into nothingness, choosing in that way to speak. Perhaps they were wishing somehow it was all different, or how everything that had started before would come to an end so a new beginning could break free… no one but them would ever know.

She was Kagome, the girl who crossed time; who was never exactly normal and never exactly strange because she made sense in such a way that she shouldn’t. And he, he was Sesshoumaru, the enigmatic, icy Taiyoukai who never spoke his mind and lived on the line of strict and wild. You wouldn’t know what to expect from such two people if they were to collide.

Defying unspoken laws again, they had clashed. They had communicated in a way that no one else would comprehend. It was… well, them.

On a summer’s evening, the two who broke all sense and repaired all undoing met, spoke, and left. Then the cycle repeated.

So who, pray, could deny that they had been lead by the dragonflies?
