It started in the winter, when he found her crying in the snow beneath the god tree. Initially, he had thought to just leave her be. But somewhere in his chest he felt a tug, something telling him to stay, to make it better. Perhaps being around Rin so much was softening him. He scowled at the thought; he was not soft. But as he moved to leave, the tugging feeling in his chest increased. He moved again, and the tug became an unyielding pull. Holding back a sigh, he made his way to the crying woman.

            Kagome couldn’t help the gasp that slipped from her when she felt herself lifted from the ground. Lifting her face from her hands, she found her self looking into the eyes of Sesshoumaru. She almost began her sobbing anew, his eyes were almost the exact same color as Inu-Yasha’s. While he continued to hold her gaze with his own, he sat in the space she had earlier occupied, and settled her comfortably in his lap.

            She opened her mouth to ask him why, why was he doing this for her? But something in his eyes told her not to, to be silent. Her mouth closed silently, and he knew they were in a silent agreement; there would be no words. Only the comfort one could gain from being held by another. Kagome broke away from his gaze and allowed herself to lean into the soft fur of moko moko, and just let herself cry.

            Sesshoumaru held her as her silent tears began to soak through his hoari and moko moko. They stayed there for hours, even after her tears had dried and she was captured by sleep. Neither thought once of the ignorant hanyou, or their group members, of responsibility.

            She felt safe, and for some reason He felt the same way, safe.
