“To want the impossible is self-defeating and can end only in frustration. To wish for an [inaccessible] goal, however, may mean achieving ones that one might not otherwise.” –Samuel Johnson

He no longer pulled at the chains. His body tired. He’s never been tired before in his life, but his muscles ached, his head throbbed, his red, bleeding wrists screamed out in agony without every echoing drip on the cold stone floor. He knew it would come to this. He knew the whole time but he blinded himself. He tricked himself into thinking he could be anything more then what they had made him. He could never stray from the paved path that he placed for him. He already tried that once. He failed then, what made him think that he could get away with it this time? Was it because he was older now? Because he was stronger? He was a fool. He opened his eyes to the dark room. It was a chamber, a holding place for the monster. That’s what he was called all his life. He was a monster. They had placed chains around his wrists, a metal collar around his neck, chains wrapped around his waist, around his ankles. They couldn’t take any chances with him. They knew how easy it would’ve been to escape. How easy it would’ve been to melt the chain from his wrists and free himself. But because of who he was, they strung him up like a doll. He was on his knees on the damp floor, a mix of sweat, blood and water that dripped from the cracked ceiling above him. The chains wrapped around his muscled torso were stretched tight and locked into place on both parallel walls. His wrists were spread on either side of him, suspended in the air, chains locked on the sealing and walls.

Any person would’ve thought a demon of his caliber would’ve broken out of the chain already but these people weren’t idiots. He wasn’t an idiot. He had rallied all the holy villages, getting the priests and priestesses to place a ward after ward on him so he could not fight back. Then he had brought the most powerful priestess forward, he watched her face as she drew the ward with her fingers on his forehead over his family crest. Her face was too familiar. Her face made him want to reach out and rip off very trace of skin, decimate every detailed feature on her skull so it could not advertise so falsely. As soon as she spoke her ward, the symbol on his forehead burned and his demonic blood was subdued. He was left as weak as they were, but he did not stop fighting. She wouldn’t stop fighting. She would keep fighting and screaming and trying until her last breath.

Even chained as he was, the thought of her racked his body. He let out a blood curdling roar. The dark, damp stone walls shook but only lightly. It sounded too human to have left his mouth but he knew it was him for his throat was hoarse and dry from strain and lack of water. He was reduced to being human. He felt weak, incapable. How could humans feel like this and still take over has they had? But they had. The population of spiritual beings had grown over the years and soon their teachings of good and evil reached the far ends of the land. He was very small when the take over had begun. He had only seen two summers when he was taken from his father. They were inu youkai. They were the strongest of demon species and it was no secret. His father lived with his mother and himself in the mountains. It was not new for a male to take a mistress though he had a mate, but neither he nor his mother knew that she was human. A human princess.  There was already talk of the great population of human and holy men and the dwindling populations of demons. When his father was found out to be the father of the princesses unborn child, all hell broke loose.

The king’s advisor was ready with the idea of disposing of all demons, seeing as they had the means to do so.  The king was unsure and spoke it over with him for days. That was until a prophet had stepped forward and spoke of a child who was born into the inu demons. A child who would be powerful beyond measure, the moon giving him its favor and lending him the means to control the lands that once belonged to him in his past lives. The king was scared. He did not want to lose his crown nor his power and in the fear and greed of his human tendency, he ordered that all inu demons be exterminated, and all others demons be enslaved. The advisor moved forward with the idea and gathered all the priests and priestesses of land and they swept the land of demons.

Some demons who could shape shift made themselves look like humans. Others fled and hid in the forests, masking themselves. More powerful demons that were well known were killed, not wanting to take any chances. It was only a matter of time before they found his family. His father fought as long as he could but he could not over power the numbers and the energy of the holy power that was thrust upon him. His father was killed, his mother was to go next defending him. When the priestesses and priests came upon him, a man stepped forward. As soon as he saw the moon symbol on his forehead, his fate was decided.

He was a monster. The blood of thousands on his hands. She had touched those hands. She had let those hands touch her body, her soft skin to the mercy of hands that had murdered women just like her. He could remember her eyes, so trusting. She had blinded him. She had held those small soft hands over his eyes, hiding the blood, the bodies, the gore, the battles fields from him. Those hands had made him believe that he maybe if he hid his eyes from his past, that he could lose himself in her and forget who he was in her future. Forget what he was just like she had. But that was a foolish notion given to him by a dreamer.

He was a monster. A murderer. A killer. They had trained him to be what he was. They trained him to fulfill his name, his duty, his fate.

He was the killing perfection.
