Adding Insult to Injury by Shrii

Seeing Red

Prompt: Spectrum Challenge, "Red"

Word Count: 488

Disclaimer: I do not own Sesshoumaru or any of the characters from Inuyasha - I'm just borrowing them. .

A/N: I've been dabbling around the idea of actually attempting to write for awhile now - and finally decided to put my best foot forward and give it a try. This is my first time writing something that isn't a paper for school and would really appreciate any tips or constructive criticism that can be offered. In fact. I'd love you to death if you gave me some D:.

Most chapters will be short and drabble length since I plan to use this mainly to participate in the contests on Dokuga_Contest but still want one story and not several stand alones. When I start to feel more comfortable, I'll try writing longer chapters xD.

I apologize in advance for grammar and spelling. I don't have a beta yet ;3;.

Special Thanks goes to TangerineDream for helping me come up with a title name for this drabble collection. I was stuck!

            Pitter, Patter, Pitter, Patter...

No silvery strand of blessed moonlight dared to peek through the dark veil of clouds to grace the battle torn meadow. The darkness, however, did nothing to hide the glimmer of bloodstained armor and weaponry that lay scattered across the field in disarray. Rain, angry and punishing; beat down against the earth in a harsh rhythm - the thick heavy drops mixing still warm blood with now tainted soil.

Amongst the stilled chaos a lone figure stood, beautiful in the face of so much destruction. He was hunched over slightly gripping the hilt of a large sword, the blade buried deep into the ground. The hilt was held with a white knuckled grip to support his weight as his other hand gripped his side tightly. His long hair despite the bloodstains throughout it was a shimmering drape that shrouded his features from view.

"Damnit." He cursed quietly to himself, pressing his hand more firmly against the wound at his side.

Blood oozed out in warm slippery streams from between his fingers, coating them and then dripping to the ground to pool in the muddied puddle at his feet. In his many years of existence, he couldn't even remotely remember the last time someone had the fortune, or misfortune as he would put it, to injure him so badly. The warm red liquid that seeped from his being felt odd and foreign to him and he was beginning to feel dizzy.

"She did it... I can't believe she seriously did it."

For a brief moment as realization dawned on him, surprise was evident in his voice and clearly visible on his normally stoic visage. Removing his hand from his side he held it out in front of him. Turning it this way and that he studied the brightness of his own blood, and the faint shadow of blue veins beneath the thin layer of pale skin. So fragile. So weak.

'How could she do this to him? How?' The thought bitterly ran through his mind, tingeing his surprise with bitterness. She had taken away his livelihood, his life -- and for what? Nothing more than refusing to comply with her foolish demands of him.  In an instant all feelings of surprise were instantly washed away and replaced with vivid hot rage.

Throwing his head back to glare furiously at the sky - his eyes flashed fiercely. With an animalistic snarl he cried out to the vast darkness above and around. "Alright mother, you've had your fun.  Return to me what is mine! You had no right to take it!"

When a few moments passed and the only sound to be heard was a crack of thunder far off in the distance, his eyes widened then narrowed; mirroring the darkness and hatred for what had become of him. His worst fear had been realized.

Sesshoumaru, Lord of the Western lands was truly, utterly, and devastatingly human.
