Prompt: Victorious

Kagome was stunned at the kiss, but quickly melted into Sesshoumaru. She sighed against his lips and a rumbling growl came from his chest. He pulled away leaving her panting. “W- What was that?”Kagome stuttered as she placed her fingers on her lips. He pulled the miko close and placed her in his lap. She squeaked in surprise, and tried to get out of his hold, he merely held her steady. He placed his nose in her hair and breathed her in. “You smell like a spring shower, plum blossoms, and mint. The spiciness of the mint draws attention to youkai, but I will make sure none shall take you from me,” he whispered against her hair. “Huh?” Kagome was flabbergasted when she heard his statement.

“Silly miko, you shall be my mate. I shall protect and care for you like no other,” he petted her hair, and Kagome finally got free of his grasp. “What?” Kagome questioned her face screwed up with confusion. “I will court you and make you see who is the better male. Inu-Yasha cannot make his mind up, and even then he could still be unfaithful to you. I would never dishonor you by taking another to my bed when I have someone as wondrous as you.” Sesshoumaru looked at Kagome when her face still reflected her confusion.

“I’m still confused, I thought you hated humans? And why me, of all people, I don’t understand, is this a joke?” she looked at him with such a lost expression he felt something deep within him clench and twist in pain. “This is no joke. I do not hate all humans, just the ignorant ones. I chose you, because you were the enigma, the one female I couldn’t figure out. You stood against me, and when I asked to join this group you stood up for me. You did not fear me when you should have, you did not run, you stood your ground. You were meant for so much more than a half-breed who can’t come to a decision between you and a dead woman.” Sesshoumaru held her hand and looked straight into her eyes as he explained everything to her.

Kagome looked as if someone had struck her. Her jaw resided on the ground, and he merely brought her back close to him. “You really think all that about me? And you’re serious?” she asked and didn’t try to pull away from him this time. “Most definitely, and I would be honored if you would consider my courting of you. I want you to decide in the end who you want to be with, but as much as I hated my father for being with that lowly princess, I would hate myself more if I passed up this opportunity with you.” His statement threw her for a loop. But as she sat there and thought about it letting everything he said sink in, she saw the differences between the brothers. Inu-Yasha couldn’t make up his mind, and Sesshoumaru knew exactly what he wanted.

“You do not have to decide right now, but would you like another story,” she nodded and cuddled into him. “When Inu-Yasha was a toddler and his mother was still living with us, he would run through the halls screaming and crying. I hated him for disturbing the silence and taking my father away from me. My mother was in shambles and would rarely leave her rooms, and the only time I got to be with my father was when we were training. After father died, Inu-Yasha got more and more out of hand. I had to step in even when my new duties as Lord were draining all of my energy. I could not let Inu-Yasha scare or hurt anyone. It was my duty to make sure he wasn’t unruly. My mother had kicked his mother out of the shiro. The only reason Inu-Yasha got to stay was because he was pack.”

“Your mother must have been so upset at what your father had done,” Kagome commented. “Indeed. What about your mother?” Sesshoumaru inquired.

“My mother, well, my mother got pregnant very young, and she was unmarried. She was engaged, but he died before I was born. They were going to marry after I was born. But it turns out my mother was played for a fool. She was the other woman in his relationship with his wife. My mother had no clue until the funeral, where she was immediately bombarded with ugly stares and called horrible names. The only one who took pity on her was the father of the son. My grandfather took my mother in and helped her. My mother found the man of her dreams five years later. He adored her, and he loved me. He was the best father anyone could ever have. He died a few years later. It was good that Souta had gotten a chance to actually know his father. He loved both of us equally, and I- I adored him. He made me feel better after I came home from school. He would take me out to ice cream and make the bullies run away. Kids didn’t tease me when he was around. He was my hero,” she sniffled out as tears trekked down her face. “I did not know this would be so upsetting to you, I shouldn’t have-”

“No, no! It’s fine. I was just caught up in my memories and emotions. I’m glad you asked, not many people know that I am a bastard child, but when I think about it, even though he wasn’t my biological father, I know in my heart he was my real father, and no one can take that from me. My mother refuses to remarry, she told me she couldn’t because he was her heart and even though he is no longer alive, she still loves him,” Kagome explained as she wiped the tears from her face. “Thank you for listening, not even Inu-Yasha knows about all of this.”

“You are most welcome. I am glad you chose to share this with me. I too loved my father very much and I was very upset when Inu-Yasha entered this world, but I understood why my father took another. After my birth my mother became barren and my father wanted more offspring, but he couldn’t take another youkai to his bed without disgracing my mother, so he settled for a human. He died protecting her, but I don’t know if he actually loved Izayoi. She was rather hostile towards me, so I would keep my distance from her as often as possible,” he confessed as he held onto Kagome tighter. She smiled and snuggled deep, letting out a rather loud yawn. She blushed and put her hand over her mouth, “I’m sor -” Sesshoumaru merely shook his head and picked her up.

“No need to apologize, I should not have kept you up so late, it is far past the time for you to rest. I shall inform Inu-Yasha to let you sleep a bit later. I am glad we had the chance to talk,” he watched her blush. As he set her on her feet to run to the old miko’s home to get some sleep, she surprised him with a kiss of her own. “I think I will let you court me, it seems you and I have some things in common. Besides, I don’t think I could say no, after all, if you look anything like your father then I’m in a world of trouble and jealousy. Remember one thing Sesshoumaru, if you want this to go anywhere, I won’t share you. No other woman better come out of the wood works because I swear if you are lying –” she was cut off by another kiss from him. “Never, I could never do what Inu-Yasha has done, or be what my father was, I will always be only yours.” He growled into the kiss and tangled his hand in her mess of hair.

He left her lips after a few more kisses and placed one on her forehead and told her, “You should go to sleep, I will see you in the morning, and we can discuss our courting then. You need rest now.” She nodded her head, but then looked back up at him and wondered aloud, “What will a courting lead to?”

“A mating,” he answered and merely turned her around and pushed her towards the hut where her friends were sleeping. “Oh, I like the sound of that,” she mumbled sleepily. He chucked as he watched her wander off into the hut and then smirked, commenting loud enough for her to hear, “I do as well.” He could hear her make another squeaking sound and he turned and walked off into the forest, but not far away. He wanted to make sure she was safe throughout the night. He would end up victorious in his pursuit of her.
