If we ever meet again by Neva

Chapter 1

This fic was inspired by the song ‘If we ever meet again’ by Timbaland and Katy Perry. It’s the song I imagine playing when Sesshomaru goes to kagome. It was a sudden inspiration so it’s a shortie.

                                                                                             …ooo000ooo…

The beat of the music pulsed over him, seeping down into his core. It was as if the entire building had a pulse and its inhabitants were the life inside it. Sesshomaru found it rather exhilarating when it was done right.

At first he had cared little for modern clubs, but he found that every club was different. Slightly smaller, nicer clubs attracted nicer crowds. It was from the right combination that he got what he was feeling tonight. The feeling of being tied to all the other living beings around him, tied by the music and the heat of the crowd.

He hadn’t intended to go out that night, but there he was sitting on a small leather stool, sipping his drink while watching the writhing young bodies that massed on the dance floor. His golden eyes fell on the enchant woman with long black locks that was twisting and turning in the most delicious fashion.

Kagome.

Many years ago, when it became clear that Inuyasha would not live to see Kagome’s natural era, he made Sesshomaru promise to keep an eye on her, and when he felt she was ready, to give her a letter for him. It was a lengthy letter, Sesshomaru had written it for Inu as his eyesight was beginning to fail and he had never been very good with penmanship. Sesshomaru had memorized the year Inuyasha had known her to born, the fact that she hadn’t fell down the well till she was 15. That she had gone thru the well after the defeat of Naraku when she was 18 only to be trapped on her side. His life’s devotion has become her, slowly but surely.

He managed to be in the hospital ‘visiting some friends’ the day she had been born. He moved posh little apartment just a few blocks away from where she lived, often visiting the shrine and checking in on the little toddler. She always seemed to find him when he visited, attaching her little body to his jean clad leg, grinning up at him with those deep blue eyes.

As she got older he kept his distance better, waiting for the days when she began to slip back in time.

Now it had been 6 years since she had returned for good. It had broke his heart in very painful ways to watch her go thru a horrible depression when she realized the well had blocked her. Deciding she needed more time to heal and grow he had taken to spying on her a few times a month to keep tabs on her. That very morning he heard her on the phone with one of the girls she was friends with, planning a night out to celebrate her new job. Hearing that they were headed to one of his preferred clubs he felt something churn within him.

Now he found himself watching her, trying to work out the courage to approach her. Various things flew thru his mind, mostly her reaction. That and overwhelming fear. He had spent so many years ‘with’ her without her knowing, protecting her when she didn’t even realize it. The notion that she might not remember him, or remember him and be afraid of him scared him badly. Or she could break down right there on the dance floor and spiral into depression.

The song began to fade out so a new could start and he made his choice. Whether or not she ever wanted to see him again he could not let this chance to be near her and see her and have her see him pass. Setting down his drink, he stood and started to make his way to her. The song began to filter in, and he was slightly pleased to find that he knew it, it was hard to keep up with current media. It was oddly fitting to the moment.

Just as the heavy beat kicked in with the chorus he made it to her swaying body. He dusted off the place of his mind that controlled dancing and let the rhythm float into him, his body moving with it. He waited a few seconds before drifting close to her, letting  hand reach out and brush her lower back. It was dark and crowded so when she glanced to him and opened her brilliant sapphire eyes she could only make out a very handsome man that seemed to want to dance with her. A small smile graced her lips and she shifted so she was pressed against him suddenly. She raked her slender fingers thru her hair, rocking her behind into his lap, his hands resting lightly on her stomach. It was pure bliss for Sesshomaru, and he leaned his head down to her neck as she continued to dance against him. Feeling her shiver at his touch he ducked down to her ear and said the words of the song along with it, but directly to her.

“Do you come here much? I swear I’ve seen your face before.”

His voice was deep and silky, and this close to her he couldn’t miss the flush of arousal that overcame her scent.

Twirling her to face him, he pulled her in close, ducking back down to the crook of her neck, kissing it lightly. Delicate hands wound round his neck, playing in his hair a bit. The song was nearing its close.

“I’ll never be the same, if we ever meet again…Kagome.” He kissed her neck once more as he felt her body stiffen slightly even as she kept moving with the music. Pulling her hands down from his neck, he entwined her fingers and pulled back, letting her eyes try to see him in the dim lighting. Sweet recognition blossomed in her eyes; lips parting in surprise, her heart beat frantic. Sesshomaru pressed her hands against his chest to feel his pounding heart and then pressed a small piece of stiff paper into her palm. Pressing a chaste but passionate kiss to her pink lips he spoke in her ear.

“If you wish to meet again.”

He pulled away from her then, swiftly retreating from her position, heart pounding loudly in his ears. Her hands had tried to reach for him, and he had heard her shout his name, but he knew that seeing him was too much of a shock, she needed time to gather herself. She would come to him when she was ready. Glancing over his shoulder he saw her standing in the middle of all the dancing people, struggling to read his business card while stroking it gently with her thumb. She seemed to confirm that the card had his name and clutched it to her heart, letting out a joy filled laugh.

Even if she never met him again, if she never found him. Seeing her face so filled joy, tears streaming down her face while she laughed, it was enough to know that he could bring her at least a moments happiness.
