The Howling

AN:  Just to let everyone know the name of every chapter will contain the name of the song.  I hope I did a good job with this song and I hope you enjoy reading this.

This story is to answer the Album songfic Challengeb by Kitten.

  Kagome stared out at her first love as he craddled the dead one to his chest whispering words she could not hear into her ears.  Why did she continue to do this to herself?  Didn't her knowing that he would be here with her be enough torture?  She guessed not as she continued to follow after him as he left their camp.

We've been seeing what you wanted,
Got us cornered right now
Falling asleep from our vanity
May cost us our lives

I hear them getting closer
Their howls are sending chills down my spine
And time is running out now,

They're coming down the hills from behind
When we start killing
It's all coming down right now
From the nightmare we've created
I want to be awakened somehow

  A howl in the distance brought Inuyasha's head up in surprise.  The wild call was one that sent a shiver of dread down his spine.  What had brought up the hunt?  Whose misery had brought them so far north?  Their natural habitat of the warm southern islands surely would have been preferable to these cold temperatures that resided so far up in the northern mountains close to the white wolves home?  Sitting back Inuyasha whispered in Kikyou's ear that she must flee from this place as quickly as possible before releasing her and leaping away into the night.

  Kagome's head twisted to her right as the sound of a viscous snarl sounded not even inches from her back.  What greeted her there had her quickly on her feet and fleeing as far and as fast as possible without looking back.

We've been searching on and on
But there's no trace to be found
It's like they all have just vanished
But I know they're around

I feel them getting closer
Their howls are sending chills down my spine
And time is running out now
They're coming down the hills from behind

Kagome stumbled to her knees as her foot caught in a root that raised slightly out of the ground then swept gently up into a arch before plunging back into the ground sending her straight to the ground with a terrified scream of a single name.  "INUYASHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

A scream rang out in the still night air before it abruptly cut off into to a wet gurgle before silencing completely except for the snarl and grunts of enjoyment of a wild animal feasting upon its downed prey.

The sun is rising
The screams have gone
Too many have fallen
Few still stand tall
Is this the ending
Of what we've begun?
Will we remember
What we've done wrong?

Howls of triumph rang out through the night reaching the ears of a certain half-demon where he sat high in a tree.  He could only hope and pray that it was none of his companions that had been hunted down and eaten by the creatures.  The creatures he had though only to be myths were not so much of a myth anymore he realized, even if he had never actually seen one and hope that he never did because he knew that it would be the las thing he would ever see.

Inuyasha lept down into the camp of the rest of his companions had rested in and immediately noticed that Kagome was not there.  It was clear from her sleeping bag underneath the tree he had originally planned to rest in until he had been summoned by Kikyou.  "Oi, Sango," Inuyasha said gruffly,  "where is Kagome?"

Sango glanced between him and Miroku,  "We don't know Inuyasha.  We were hoping you knew.  Miroku and I both though that we heard the wild hunt's howls last night."

Inuyasha nodded,  "You did.  I wonder what, or rather who attracted them so far up north.  Oh well it ain't none of our business lets go look for Kagome."

Inuyasha's nose led them first in the direction of the clearing he and Kikyou had met then lingered behind a tree where it was joined by another far more fould scent that then seemed to follow her as she leftthe clearing.  The followed the scent for about ten minutes before comeing upon a path that smelled of nothing but blood.  Inuyasha lifted the front of his clothes to cover his nose before proceeding forward. 

His howl of anguish was the only thing that rang through the silent forest in an alert of what it was they found and loud sobs followed behind it.

Glowing golden eyes watched the group as it gathered around the bloody corpse that it had kept a silent watch over since he had stumbled upon it.  "Foolish little brother.  The fault of this death lies with you and your dead lover.  Now there is no other worthy of this Sesshoumaru now."
