If you're not the one you used to be

It was Kagome's 16. Birthday and she was happy that she could finally spend time with her family. Little did she know that at the end of the day her views of life will change dramatically. She no longer loves Inuyasha. She know he will never be able to see something else in her than his former love. Besides, she discovered long time ago that she love him as a brother, not a lover. Sometimes she would ask herself why had she been so blind, maybe then... then now she could have her own love.

"Mom I'm back." she cried.

"Oh honey. I miss you and happy birthday." Her mom kissed her on her forehead while Kagome was in her arms. Kagome was worried about her mother. She seems to be sad, but Kagome couldn't figure out what. Maybe Souta did something. It is possible. Kagome didn't think it was serious so she dropped her thoughts about the subject.

Then in the evening....

"Kagome, I have something to tell you."

"What is it?" Kagome asked. She could feel the tension of her mother.

"Well... you... I don't know how to tell you..."

"Mom, it can't be that bad, right?" encouraged Kagome.

"Oh my dear, you had no idea." her mother whispered.

"Kagome you are adopted." whispered she.

"W-What? Can you say it again, please?"

"Kagome, please calm down. Let me explain." she says and began to tell Kagome what happened.

"16 years ago, there was a noise in front of our door. I and your fathe... my husband couldn't imagine who it could be in the late hours. Then we found a baby on the door, which slept. It was you. In your basket was a lot of things. On of them was a letter. I have been keeping the letter, in case you wanted to read it. There were information's of you, like birthday, blood group, time of your birth, even things you like and how to get you fall into sleep. It is written we should take care of you and they know your are in good hands, because they watched us. It was strange. It seems they have planned carefully. That your family was poor was out of question, because there was another envelope with a lot of moneys. It was possible that they had many enemy and don't wanted to put you in danger. They said they would come on your 16.Birthday but never told how. Well and besides the envelopes there were other things like a belt, a necklace, earrings and a bracelet. We didn't know what we should do with these things, therefor we decided to give it you on your 16.birthday. If we take you with us, then our family would be blessed and we would get kids, but we were told that we couldn't get kids. I was really confused as I was told by doctors I was pregnant. The strange thing is it shortly happened after you asked for a little brother and then you had a little brother. I talked with my father and he think of it strange, too. The day we found you was a Wednesday 22.30. There is a day every year, where the moon is in her highest state on the sky. There have to be a connection but it never occurred me."

"Do you really think there is a connection between me and the moon?" asked Kagome.

"I don't know."

"Even if you're not my biological mother, in my eyes you will be forever my mother, 'cause you raised me and had taken care of me." Kagome said and hugged her mother. Later she read her letter.

Dear family Higurashi,

I, no, we wish from the bottom of our heart you will raise Kagome. We have long observed you and we know very well we can leave her under your custody. At full moon nights she fell very easily asleep, but you must never let the room dark until she is a bit older and if need be, you must sing her songs. She prefer playing with her rabbits, birds, dragons and dog toy. In the next slip is her data and information about her and in the other envelope shall be money for her education and wishes. We pray you would keep her with you. It is better that way. At its 16.Birthday you should tell her the truth and not before. Hot even in her 14th Years of age and the years after.

Kagome read it again and again. Her family had made every effort Kagome could think of, she had do admit. She read it into the night but her eyes become heavy and she was weary so he drifted into sleep.

~Kagome~ she hear a voice.

"What? Who's there? And where am I?" she asked. It was definitely not her room. The floor was of marble and was beautifully decorated. Like in a castle. In front of her was a window, but as she took a glance outside, her eyes widen.

"What..." she whispered. Se couldn't believe her eyes. There... she could saw the earth? How? Where in the hell is she? How did she get there or here?

~My little one, calm down.~ heard a voice spoke, but nobody was in the room.

~No one will harm you. You belong here. ~

"Where? Where am I? What do I do here?"

~Didn't your mother tell you? We said we will pick you up on your 16.birthday.~

"So, this means... you are my mother?"

~Yes, but we have a problem. We can't take you to us. You have to come here. Many things have changed, little one, but I know you will do well on your task. You have to get back into the well, there is the only way.~

"Then you live in the Feudal Era?" Kagome asked

"Kagome, I have not much time to answer all of your questions. All I can say is, that you have to go back into the well and find your old companions. This is the only way to the moon. I will tell you later how to do so. Also I have to tell you that you are a Youkai but furthermore you have the spirits of dragon, phoenix, a star and an Inu. You don't have much time. I will see you soon and hopefully you can see me, too, my little one.~
