Baby Matters

I've no idea where this came from, but I felt I had to write it and so write it I did.  I will say though, I was probably thinking about my little goddaughter.

Baby Matters

“I want a baby Sesshoumaru,” Kagome demanded of her boyfriend.  This wasn’t first time she had asked, but she certainly prayed that this time would be the last.

            He sighed, before turning away from his desk in his home office.  “Kagome, what about my grandpups?”

            She scowled.  She was so sick and tired of him using the same excuse for not impregnating her.  So what he was a grandfather?  So what he had grown pups, all of them well older than her.  That did not mean he couldn’t give her the baby she wanted.  In fact, with his youngest pup Rin having her fourth child this should be the best time to have a baby.

            Sesshoumaru reached for her hand.  She resisted his pull, but he was so much stronger than she that it proved impossible to stand against him.  She settled into his lap, though she made sure her face showed her stubborn thoughts.

            “Kagome,” he said as he pressed a gentle kiss at her temple.  “You know I don’t relish the thought of starting fatherhood all over again when there are grandpups to spoil and love.  There is always a little one running around somewhere, so why must we fight about having a pup?”

            She turned her face away from him so he wouldn’t see her tears.  It hurt her that he refused her this one request.  It wasn’t as if she were expecting him to spend all his money on her or anything.  She just wanted to have a child of her own, one he fathered.  She wanted to feel the joy of having new life growing inside of her.

            Okay, so she’d always known his stance on the pup front.  At the time she hadn’t thought she’d fall for someone so much older than her.  But then he’d proven to be so wonderful beyond her wildest dreams, that it was no wonder she fell for him so soon after getting together with him.  Now she wanted to take the next step with him and have his baby, either before or after getting him to agree to mate with her.  She would really hate it if this were to stand in the way of them as a couple.

            But it was standing in the way.  Having his grandpups running around, watching as his daughters, both in-laws and natural talk about their experiences being pregnant and giving birth just hurt her because she couldn’t join in the talk herself.  It seemed so cruel to expect her to spend the rest of her life childless simply because he already had pups of his own.

Sesshoumaru knew Kagome was angry with him, but didn’t understand how he could make it better while not compromising what he wanted.  Part of him cursed himself for even dating a human woman of such a young age, especially when he knew he never wanted more children.  But she’d been so sweet and had blushed so prettily the first time he talked to her.  He just had to get to know her at whatever the cost.

            Now here he was fighting with her again because she wanted a pup of her own.  ‘Would that be such a bad thing,’ a small voice inside him questioned.  It wouldn’t take much at all.  He knew for a fact that Kagome had stopped taking her birth control after a week of dating him.  All he’d really need to do was forget her fertile day and let her have her wish.

            Only, he had a feel she’d want more from him then.  He was more obliged to mate her than she probably figured.  As long lived as he was, she would expect more than one pup out of him.

            He silently grimaced.  He was much too old to be chasing after small pups.  He certainly couldn’t handle diaper changes and late night feedings.  The grandpups were able to go home at the end of the day.  His own wouldn’t be able to be gotten rid of.

            He finally sighed deeply.  “Let me think about this Kagome.  It is still early in our relationship.  You have plenty of time to contemplate pups.”

            She turned to glance at him over her shoulder.  “You mean it this time?  You won’t jerk me around?”

            He kissed her on the lips.  “I promise I will think seriously about it.  Now I hear the sounds of a herd of pups coming this way.  We’d better head them off before they destroy something valuable.”

            Later, as he watched her cradle his youngest grandpup in her arms he actually did take the time to think about it.  Someone like Kagome with so much love to give couldn’t possibly be happy without one of her own.  To be with her meant creating a family, a whole family.  He really only wanted to be with her.

            “So she wants a pup dad, give it to her,” his eldest son Daisuke said.  “We are inu.  We aren’t meant to be alone and since you clearly want the female, it should be fine to give her what she wants.”

            “Yeah, except all of our pups will be older than any new pup father has.  I vote he finds someone less complicated than a young human female.  There are plenty of older youkai females willing to forgo pups,” his second son Kazuo said.

            “Why did your mate leave you again,” Daisuke responded.  “Could it be because you’re an ass?”  He then turned to their father.  “If you listen to Kazuo father, I promise you, you will be miserable without her.  Just think about before she came into your life.  Were you so blissfully happy with that female Aya, who, like you wanted no more pups?”

            Sesshoumaru felt the need to scowl, but even he had to recognize Daisuke was correct.  Aya had been exactly what he’d been looking for in a potential mate to spend the rest of his years with.  She’d been content to just have it be the two of them with frequent visits from the pups and grandpups.  He would probably have still be with her, perhaps mated if he hadn’t run into Kagome on the day he did.

            But still…a pup was a huge responsibility.  He just didn’t know if he could do it.

The wolf pup had to die.  How dare he think he could touch Kagome and make her smile when he was miserable?  She’d needed time to think about what she wanted, she’d said.  But how could she be thinking about anything while out flirting with that disgusting wolf.

            Sesshoumaru released a growl of frustration.  His eldest son’s words continued to flow through his mind about losing Kagome.  From the looks of it, it seemed it was exactly what was happening.

            His inner inu couldn’t allow it to continue.  He refused to think of a life without her.  So come hell or high water Sesshoumaru determined he’d have to win Kagome back.  If that meant impregnating her he’d keep her ass pregnant until she got sick of having pups.

            He allowed a smirk to appear on his face.  In fact, he’d start with the impregnation right now since his sensitive nose could smell her fertile time approaching soon.

            He approached the table where she sat in the café, his very motion like that of a predator.  He enjoyed the moment when Kagome took note of his very presence coming her way.  Her body suddenly straightened, her eyes widened.  He could hear her heart beating rapidly in her chest as she turned his way.  Sesshoumaru smirked at her.

            The foolish wolf pup didn’t appear to notice the change in Kagome.  Although, considering the way he stared at her chest, he highly doubted he would pay attention long enough to notice any change.

            “Sesshoumaru,” Kagome said on a squeak.  “What are you doing here?”  He tilted his head, but said nothing to her.  She turned her eyes back to the wolf who finally seemed to realize he no longer had her attention.

            “Who the hell are you?” the wolf demanded.  Sesshoumaru ignored him in favor of grabbing Kagome by the wrist and tugging her behind him.  He didn’t bother to move at a speed the wolf could keep up with.  There was no need to play with the competition.

            Kagome said nothing the whole way out of the café and into his expensive custom Lexus.  She remained calm as she allowed him to buckle her into her seat before he made his way to the driver’s side.  It was only when he pulled off that she chose to speak.  “What was that all about?” she asked quietly.

            “I’ll be damned if I allow you the chance to end up with another.  You belong to me Kagome and I’m not going to allow anyone the time to think any different.”

            “So you’re saying you’re willing to give me the baby I want?”

            He nodded carefully.  Be damned the consequences of his actions.  The human girl simply drove him crazy when out of his sight.  “If it is that important to you, I will allow you the opportunity to become a mother to my pup.  Be warned though, you will never have a choice of choosing another male if I gift you with my seed.”  He’d rip any male apart who thought differently.

            He couldn’t help but notice Kagome’s blinding smile at his side.  “I knew you’d come around eventually.”  He grunted but said nothing further in answer.  He allowed her the thought of victory for now.  But he wondered what she would do when she learned that he could control just how many pups she had at one time.
