Kagome glanced around the clearing for what was supposed to be the last time. She had left her last friend, still alive in this time, back at the village with Kaede, having decided his life would be far better if he could find a demon to take care of himself, rather than her continuing to try to do so without the help of Sango and Inuyasha.

Walking over to the old, dusty well, Kagome peered down into its time distorted depths, placing her leg on the lip as she went to vault herself into the darkness. Then, a branch snapped behind her.
