Moonlight by Exxie Valentine

Chapter 1

Moonlight. The moonlight was white. Like his hair...White, smooth, and forever beautiful. She watched the moon on this cold December night. Inuyasha had once again run off with Kikyou. By this time she knew...She was all too aware of their 'heated' relationship. She thought maybe she would feel more pain, more of a destructed heart-ache feel...She didn't though. She felt nothing. She thought at first she was a bad person for not feeling the pain she thought she was supposed to feel...But after a few more of Inuyasha's disappearances that theory ebbed away.

She noticed the moon more and more...Wherever it made it's appearance. She noticed the word in everyday conversation. She noticed the small carvings she once overlooked on her mothers' jewelry box. The character, Sailor Moon, from the anime she used to watch when she was little. The song, Me and The Moon she'd heard the last time she'd gone home. Mostly though, she noticed the actual moon...Hanging in the sky like a glorious pearl around a woman's neck...She shed a tear every time she thought this. She always thought of herself one day marrying a man who would get her a pearl she could hang around her neck so delicately, then maybe she would shine like her mother told her she would....

'You'll shine so brightly no one will be able to see the stars, twinkling even at their best. You're my little pearl, perfect and beautiful in every way.'

Another tear. Another broken smile. She wiped at the tear with a close to freezing hand. She kept forgetting her jacket....It was going to put her in her grave if she kept forgetting it...

“Human..? Why have you ventured so far out.” A silken smooth voice called to her without calling out. Something about his voice swam around her and filled her with something she had been lacking for so long...She felt like...

“...I wanted to see the moon...I miss it...” She admitted, bringing a shaking hand you her wavering chest as if taking hold of what might be warming her core. The shaking was starting to stop...She was amazed. This man...Who evoked nothing but fear and the cool voice of death had brought warmth into her heart...A warmth she hadn't known...

“Miss the moon? Ridiculous...” He scoffed. She could tell though, he was slightly stirred. There was something in his voice...

“You must have some sort of longing...Right?” She was bold, assuming so much about this Lord of Ice. She might catch her death out here, whether it be by the cold or his fang, but at least if it was by his fang, it would be warm...

“Longing...How do you mean.” He commanded. You couldn't call it a question, he wouldn't let anyone know he was ever curious...

“Do you ever look at the moon and remember a dream you had?” She asked, turning to him. She gasped.

He was watching her, his eyes sharp yet soft. Cold yet ever warmer. His long, ethereal silver hair, like the finest of silk, drifting in the light breeze that bit and clawed at her own skin. His skin, pale...Like Marble or quartz. His sharp, dagger-tipped claws glinting in the moonlight. The folds of his clothing making silent zipping noises as it brushed against itself. Shimmering in the moonlight, his armor. Polished and pointed, looking as if it was taunting you to battle it's master. The sash around his waste...Why did he choose those colors? Were they random or did they mean something to him? Why did he tie it the way he did? She looked up at his eyes once more and realized there was something in those eyes that had been lying there for so long...Something that had suddenly been rekindled. Something sweet and warm, like the scent of cinnamon on a late Christmas night as you read a good book in your favorite book.

“A dream...Yes...Yes, Miko, I've had a dream that had been twisted into a nightmare..” He confessed. He blinked and Kagome thought the warmth sweet thing in those gentle golden eyes would disappear but when he glanced at the moon and looked to hew once more, it was there. Much more lively than it had been at first glance.

“Oh...I-I see...I hope you can have it back-” She began but had to keep herself from squeaking with surprise.

The demon Lord has her in the crook of his arm, the large, warm fluffy..Thing curling around her. She had to admit...While it was warm, it still made her skin jump as she realized it was moving by it's own accord. She looked up at him with startled blue eyes. The moonlight kept wavering in those blue eyes...Blue eyes like the clearest of pools in the dead of midnight that held the moons' light gently yet never had it's hold on it. He himself had to keep his eyes from widening in pleasant surprise.

“That dream has since healed itself though. What I thought once was a vice....Loving a mere human can only make me weak. I, Sesshoumaru, cannot be weak as you well know.”

Kagome could almost hear the high-class violin music playing in the background. Like that music played when a couple in a moving romance movie had a ballroom dance and no one else seemed to exist? She could hear it while listening to this usually muted man..Creature of complete perfection, speak of something she wasn't quite sure she understood herself. Why was he holding her so close? Why was he spilling his heart out to her? She had long since developed an iron, vice-like mind and knew how this man thought. If he told her too much she might go running back to Inuyasha and tell him his weaknesses...But...Seeing as though she was out in the cold in this damned miniskirt, He thought maybe he could trust her...Or was it that she had an interest in the moon like maybe he did?

“I...See....Go on...” she said at a loss of what to really say. What could she say? Nothing. That's what she hated about this man. He could say everything, and she....She was left in the dust, scrambling to think of some possible sentence to match herself with his extreme intellect. She hated being so stupid while in reality she was quite the smarty in her day-to-day life.

“You..Are no regular lowly human....You, my delicate flower, are far superior to any human I've come across in my years of living....Because of you, I think I understand my fathers' attraction to that human woman...” He stated.

He was getting closer...So close she could see each individual eyelash on his fine, distinguished eyes. She could see each separate strand of hair that made up his mane of fine silken silver. She was positive there was something about Sesshoumaru. He wasn't human. He wasn't demon. He wasn't an angel. He wasn't anything to her but beautiful, but she felt so ashamed....That one word didn't even do him justice...She looked up at him and his eyes were...Amused...

'Dear God, I hope he can't hear what I'm thinking...If he can I'm fu-'

“Miko....Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth..Or should I elaborate what my meaning is..” He asked. Complete bewilderment slowly lit up into a tomato red-stained face of pure embarrassment. He meant...He!!!

“Sex?!” She finally exclaimed in the purest flavor of innocence and shock.

He laughed...He laughed!! She felt his body shaking gently with the sound. Something that...She felt she could grow to like....Maybe even love. She stared for a moment before smiling and giggled with him. It all felt like a complete dream....A dream that she was terrified to wake up from.

They spent the night that way...Smiling...Or rather, Kagome spent the night smiling. They sat with each other. Kagome sat in his lap, smiling. She fell asleep in his lap, clutching the fur that wrapped around her and kept her small body warm. She had dreams that night....Dreams of moons and stars, swirling around her. Beautiful things that she'd thought could never exist for her...And at the end of this beautiful dream she fell under the moonlight...Back into the arms of the Demon Lord of the West...And she stayed there. Under the Moonlight.
