A Girl and her Inuyoukai. by celetar

The Question

“Lord Sesshoumaru?”

“What is it?”

The two disembodied voices came out of opposite ends of the campsite. One came from a young girl, sprawled across a giant two-headed dragon-thing crouching near a fire. The other came from a tall figure dressed in nearly all white, with silver hair and a mokomoko draped across his shoulder.

The powerful figure stood at the edge of a cliff, staring into the star-studded sky. It had been about two months since Sesshomaru and Rin had started traveling together, and Rin had discovered Lord Sesshomaru was much more talkative at the full moon and new moon when Jaken slept. She didn’t know why, and was afraid to ask. However,  she did ask her most inquisitive questions at this time, knowing she would get some kind of response.

“Well, I was thinking…..I-I don’t really know how to say this…ummmm” Rin stuttered. She had a very important question, but she just couldn’t form the words to say it. She jumped off of Ah Un and sat at the flickering campfire, gazing into it’s depths. “It’s really hard to put into words. I-I heard Kagome telling Inuyasha about it. And when I asked Jaken, he said I was silly to say that. But I really want to know. Do-do you-…never mind.” The small girl turned her head away, but he could see how much it hurt her not to ask.

Lord Sesshomaru surprised her by walking over to her and kneeling down. If Jaken were awake he would have never done this, but he could feel that the young girl was very nervous. Sesshomaru-sama could hear her heart pumping erractically, like it did when he had told her to freeze after Kagura came.

“Rin. What is troubling you?”

Her eyes widened, and she burst into tears. Sobbing, she leaned into him and his mokomoko. To say Sesshomaru was startled would be the understatement of the century. His spine stiffened, but he did not turn her away.

“Rin. Stop that. Tell me what has you in tears.” He chided.

“I-I can’t! It’s like the words won’t come out of my mouth! It’s too hard! And I can’t think of any way to put this!” she wailed.

“Hush, Rin. Jaken will awaken if you continue. I shall wait over here until you find the right time to ask.” With that, the graceful white dog-demon walked back over to the bluff and stared at the stars. Rin watched him walk away, debateing whether or not to tell him. It wasn’t that hard to ask, actually. She was just nervous.

She stood and brushed herself off. Wiping tears from her eyes, she went to stand next to Sesshomaru. Gazing up at the stars and the imposing daiyoukai, she pulled on his pant leg to get his attention.

Sesshomaru remained still for a few seconds, watching a shooting star, then crouched down next to her. Rin gulped. Even bent on his knees the red marks on his face made it hard to ask such personal a question to the Lord of the Western Lands.

“You have figured it out?” he asked quietly. She nodded. “What is it, then?”

Closing her eyes for bravery, she straightened. Opening them  up again just had her gazing into his deep, golden eyes. She took a deep breath and asked,

“Lord Sesshomaru, do you have a theme song?”

The question was so random and so trivial Sesshomaru smiled. And Rin inwardly laughed. She had finally made him smile! Even if he hadn’t yet answered her question.

Bet you didn’t see that coming, eh? Well, I finally got one out. If you want to REALLY bad have me write more Sess and Rin one-shots, tell me! Otherwise this is just a oneshot. Please Review!
