“No! Father!” Kagome screamed as she fought the people who held her tightly. “No! I have to go to him! Let me go!”
Kagome’s mom shook her head as she forced her daughter to sit down in the capsule. She knew it was too late for her husband. She knew it was too late for all of them besides her one and only daughter. “Kagome, listen to me.” She said, tears running hotly down her cheek.
Kagome looked at her mother, her town tears threatening to fall. “Mom, let me go. I can fight too.”
“Hurry Satome! We don’t have much time!” Inuyasha yelled as he unleashed another attack. “I can only hold them back for so long!”
Satome cupped her daughter’s cheek. “Your humanities last hope Kagome. Right now, it’s not your time to fight. If the worst case happens and we’re not able to win this war, then it’s going to be up to you. Live for us because you’re our last hope Kagome.”
“No mom…” Kagome whispered as her tears finally fell down her face. “Don’t leave me mom. I can’t do this.”
Her mother pressed a small jeweled necklace into Kagome’s hand and helped the girl to lie down. “Don’t forget my words Kagome.” She pressed the button on the side, causing the capsule to close shut.
Instantly Kagome started to bang on the glass, screaming out to her mother to let her out of there. Slowly gas began to seep into the side causing the young girl to finally fall asleep.
Satome closed her eyes as she watched it slowly sink into the ground and out of side. “I love you Kagome.” She whispered. “So live for us.”
Chapter one: The Girl Who Woke to Nothing
Beep…
Beep…
Beep…
All systems on. Chronogenic sleep off. Good morning Kagome. Its time to wake up now.
The sound echoed though the room as if it hasn’t been used for a long time. Slowly the sight mist left the pod showing a young girl, no older then seventeen asleep. Bright blue eyes began to open, blinking quickly as if trying to get to understand her surroundings. Getting up slowly, she ran her hand though chocolate brown hair and groaned. Her head hurt. In fact, everything hurt to her.
“Mom?” Kagome muttered, her voice cracking slightly from lack of use. Blinking a couple of times once more she finally looked up only to close them once more.
“No…” She whispered, opening them again to see that no, what she saw was true. She slowly got out of the pod, her hand rubbing up and down her bare arm. She tried, oh how she tried her hardest not to burst out crying. But she couldn’t help it. Tears fell down her face at the site. The very building she was in was nothing more then ruins.
Kagome could remember when her father’s factory was large and tall, with many floors and machinery. But now it was nothing more then rubble at her feet. There no longer was ceiling above her head and the walls were still falling apart. She swallowed hard as she crawled though the broken pieces of building to finally see the world outside.
“Oh no…”
The city she once knew was completely gone. There was nothing. Not a soul in site. The once loud and busy city was nothing more then ruins. Ruins that seemed to be there for a long time. Moss grew on the sides of buildings, out of control vines wrapped around pillars. Cars were nothing more then rust.
Kagome shook her head and held her hands close to her chest. “How long was I asleep?” She wondered to no one but herself. “Father said it would be no longer then a couple years. But… if that’s so, then where is everyone else?”
She stepped outside of the building and tripped slightly over some rubble. There wasn’t anyone there at all.
“Hello?” She yelled, her voice echoing though the quiet ruined city. “Hello! Is anyone out there?” A small sigh escaped her lips when nothing more then her own voice echoed back at her. “Great… I’m alone and I have no idea what my mother wanted me to do. Some great last hope I turned out to be.”
Instantly Kagome stiffened. She didn’t imagine that sound did she? She looked around to see a piece of rock roll down what looked to be a slab of concrete.
“Um… hello?” She called. “Is someone there?”
There was another shifting sound causing Kagome to turn, trying to find what it was. “I know your there! Stop playing games with me!”
“I wasn’t aware that there was a human still alive out there.” A voice chuckled from the ruins.
The teen girl instantly felt a tight feeling in her chest. She remembered this feeling. It was a youkai. “Show yourself!” She called. She had to be strong. She couldn’t just cower in fear. She could still remember Inuyasha and how he always called her a scardy cat for running away even at the slightest thing.
The ruins before her exploded, rubble flying everywhere, barely missing her as it settled. There, stood a large snake, its forked tongue flickering out as it to taste her fear in the air. A smirk reached its scaly lips. “So tell me human, are you as tasty as you look?” It purred at her.
Kagome cursed under her breath. Why did she have to pick a fight when she had nothing to fight with? No gun, no sword, not even her bow and arrows. But she refused to die here and now. So many people died to get her here. She was not going to let some snake youkai kill her before she knew what she needed to do. So the girl did the only thing she could think of at the time. She ran for her life.
Kagome could hear the youkai’s laughter as she ran though the rubble, trying to find a good place to hide. She felt a slight change in the air and quickly moved to the side as the tail of the monster slammed down right where she was. Trying not to scream, she continued to run, hoping to find a good place to hide. There! She quickly ran though rubble which had a small tunnel and darted to the left, hiding herself from the youkai.
She could hear it slither by, the chuckling echoing though its voice. “Come on now little girl. I just want to taste you. I’m sure you taste divine.”
Kagome held her hand against her mouth and nose, trying to silence the sound of her harsh breathing. She tried to will the monster away, praying to the kami’s for someone to save her. Once more she heard the sound of something moving quickly. This time she wasn’t as lucky as the tail moved though the rubble and catching her around the waist. For a moment she saw something pink fall from her pocket and land onto the ground. It almost sounded like a bell as it hit hard concrete.
“I have you my little human.” The snake chuckled as it held her up to its face. Its tongue moved out, running it up her legs and caused her to shiver in disgust. “Oh, you do taste divine. I believe I shall eat you slowly so I can enjoy your taste.”
Kagome glared at him as she moved her arms till she got them free from his grasp. “Eat this.” She growled as she placed her hands on the very tail that was wrapped around her. Instantly power pulsated though her hands, purifying the very area that she touched.
The youkai screamed out as he flung her though the air, causing the girl to slam into a slab of stone. A yelp escaped her lips as she crumbled on the ground, her legs not moving. She was stunned and hurt, not sure if she could really move at all.
“You little bitch!” He hissed. “I’ll kill you!”
“I found you Ryukin.” A dark voice said, echoing off the walls.
The snake looked around, anger written on his scaly face. “Who’s that?” He demanded, looking around.
Kagome looked up as she heard the snake scream out in agonizing pain. But as she did, her vision focused on one thing. The long silver hair of a man as he sliced the youkai in half. She shakily stood up, tears welding up in her eyes once more. Flashes of her memories ran though her mind. Memories of walking down the streets together, sitting in the park laughing, and even the kiss they shared one night.
“Inu…yasha?” Kagome whispered.
The silver haired man stiffened and slowly he turned around, his amber eyes hard and cold from that very name. She knew right then that no, this man wasn’t Inuyasha. No, this man was youkai. A very powerful youkai. The purple crescent moon and the magenta stripes told her so.
“How do you know that name?” He growled.
The girl’s legs gave out on her as she fell to the ground. She couldn’t run from this one. He was too powerful. She would die as soon as she took off. But he saved her. Suddenly her world went completely black around her.
**
“Mi’ lord, is that what I think it is?”
What… was that sound?
“Yes Jaken. Though I believe she is the last of her kind.”
Last of… what kind?
“Will you eat her?”
Who are they talking about?
“No. She knows that half breed Inuyasha. Maybe she knows of what his fate was.”
Inu…yasha?
“But mi’ lord that is not possible! Inuyasha died over five hundred years ago. For her to know who your half brother is does not make sense at all.”
Five… hundred years?
“That is why I’m allowing her to live for now.”
Her eyes slowly began to open to see nothing but the dark sky of night. She could feel the warmth of a fire next to her but it hurt to move too much. It hurt to even breathe. “Where… am I?” She whispered, not looking at the two demonic presence next to her. If they would have killed her, they would have done it already.
Suddenly a green toad like thing stuck its face in hers. “Do not be disrespectful of lord Sesshomaru! You are lucky human that he saved you from a cruel fate that could have befallen you!”
Kagome blinked at the thing in her face before frowning. “You can get out of my face now. Your breath smells like swamp water.”
“Insolent human!” It screeched.
“Jaken.” The deep voice said to the toad. “Leave her alone.”
The brown haired girl groaned as she slowly started to sit up only to be pushed gently back down by a clawed hand. “Rest girl. You are not in any shape to be moving. You have broken three ribs and your ankle is twisted as well.”
Kagome looked at the man and sighed in defeat. “Who are you? And where am I?” She noticed they were no longer in the ruins of her city but in a lush forest.
“I believe that you are to introduce yourself first girl.”
A frown reached her lips. “My name is Kagome. Ka Go Me.”
The silver haired youkai gave a small nod. “I am Sesshomaru. That over there is my retainer Jaken.”
“Why did you save me?” She asked softly. She couldn’t look at him anymore. He looked too much like… him.
Sesshomaru saw the girl look away from him. He was right; she did know his half brother. “Do not get any ideas girl. I did not save you. Ryukin had taken something from me and I only wished to get it back from him. Before you ask, it is not important to you what he took from me. Now answer my question, how do you know the name ‘Inuyasha’?”
Kagome turned her head to look at him once more. “Inuyasha?” She asked. Seeing him nod she sighed and held back her tears. “He was my best friend. We grew up together. Well… it was more that I grew up and he always looked the same age. We were friends, and yet we loved each other. He promised me that when I woke up, we could see each other again. Sesshomaru, what happened here? What happened to the world that I used to know? How did the war end?”
The taiyoukai looked at her, trying to decide on what to tell her. Figuring that telling her the truth would be the best action, he began. “If you speak of the war between youkai and humans, that was over five hundred years ago. A war which the humans lost. It was so long ago that I had even forgotten about such a war. Humans fought the best they could, but the youkai were being lead by one called Naraku. With the tyrant leading them, the humans quickly fell. Over the past two hundred years humans were hunted and killed. It’s been three hundred years sense a human has even walked on this earth. That was till you showed up girl.”
Sesshomaru closed his eyes as she smelt her tears as they ran down her face. There was no point in shielding her from the truth. The girl was probably the last of her kind. A kind that would die out with her.
Wiping her tears away Kagome sniffed. “My mother told me that I was humanities last hope.” She whispered. “But I don’t know how I can help everyone. If I’m the last one left, then I can’t do anything at all.”
A hand placed itself on top of Kagome’s eyes. “Sleep for now girl. It is getting late and your body needs to heal. Think of the answers when you are less distressed.”
She sighed softly, feeling that yes she was much more tired then she thought she was originally. With a sight yawn, she quickly fell asleep.
