Temptation by Dandie

The Rain

The rain splashed on Kagome’s bloody face.  Her crusty eyes slowly opened to look up at the dark starless sky. He breathing was getting slower by the minute, and she kept falling into a fitful sleep. She could not remember why she was lying in the mud near a forgotten pond in the park… or why she couldn’t move.

Her heart labored in her chest, thudding desperately in her ears. She was dying… she could feel it. The rain left the blood streaking down the sides of her face, washing away all the dirt and grime. She tried to turn over onto her side, and gasped as pain streaked through her battered body.

Tears soon mingled with the rain on her cheeks. Why was she going to die here? It was so unfair! She hadn’t even had her first love! Never had her first kiss… A sob rattled her painfully in her chest and made her cough, sending more spasms of pain down broken body.

A rustling in the dark park made her pause, she swiveled her head this way and that, looking for the source of the sound.

“Who’s there?” she croaked out, then immediately regretted it. What if the person who had done this to her was coming back to finish the job? She started to shudder again, trying to ignore the pain.

Suddenly a form was leaning above her, yellow eyes glinting even in the dark. He seemed unusually interested in the rivulets of blood streaking down her body from the rain. A cold hand pressed against her cheek, making her wince.

“Who are you?” she whispered, unable to take her eyes away from his beautiful face. It was as if an angel had come down to take her away to safety… but he didn’t talk, nor did he meet her eyes.

He took his hand away from her cheek and licked it, this time meeting her eyes directly. Suddenly she knew… that this man was not here to help her, no… he was here to finish the job.  More tears poured down her cheeks, knowing that she would never see her mother again, nor her brother or her father.

The man above her tilted his head, a silver pony tail falling over his shoulder, brushing softly against her face. Again he brought his fingers to her cheek, slowly trailing them down to her neck.

“Why do you cry human? Are you not happy that I am going to take away the pain?” the man finally asked. Usually at this point in a weak human’s life, they would be begging for death, but this one seemed to want to live. She was stronger than most. She hadn’t seemed like it when the mugger had attacked her earlier; she had hardly put up a fight.

“I don’t want to die so soon… I still have so much to live for…” the girl whispered, then coughed. A trickle of blood appeared on her pale lips, stark in contrast. His vision was riveted to the sight. He then looked back up at her. He had never granted the favor for anyone else… but something about this girl made him want to help her where he had never helped anyone else before.

“If I were to offer you life girl, would you take it? It would not be the existence you know now, but it would be a form of living all the same.” He could hardly believe that he had actually offered this to her…

“What kind of life…?” her voice was becoming more and more faint, her heartbeat was ebbing… He had to talk fast.

“You would dwell at night and never be able to see the sun again; your sustenance would be blood, nothing else. You will never be able to see your family again, and you will be immortal. But you will be alive.”

Kagome stared at the man. Was he joking with her to make her feel better that she was going to die? Making her think that she would live when she really would not? She was not willing to chance saying no… Even if she could not see her family, she could maybe contact them to say that she was happy and not to look for her.

Sesshoumaru saw her emotions flash through her eyes, and was astounded to see that she was going to take the offer. He had not expected her to. He saw her slow nod, and watched as she closed her eyes. She was very close to death, he had to work fast.

“Open your eyes then, look at me little one.” He mumbled, and leaned forward to lick the speck of blood that still stained her lips. Her blood sizzled in his mouth and he groaned out loud, when he pulled back, her glazed eyes looked hopefully up at him.

“This is going to hurt.” He said, and then leaned forward again to bite her neck, drinking in the nectar that was her blood. Her heart slowed even more, and when it was barely a flutter, he pulled back and cut his own neck and pulled her forward.

“Drink Kagome, “he growled. He felt her lips gently set against his neck and start to suckle.

Thunder roared above, as if the gods were against another monster being made to roam the earth. But it was too late; Kagome had already started to slowly heal with the magical blood.

It was also too late for Sesshoumaru to realize that this decision would set his fate rolling like it never had before. Oh yes, far too late.
