Inuyasha was walking through the woods. He was trying to find a place for him to live. The hunt for a home was a never ending one for the unlucky boy. His mother had been dead for seventy-five years, but he had never gotten over the loss. It was in his thoughts that his mind resided, and it was these thoughts that got his life threatened. The arrow was pointed at his heart, the voice was as cold as the action, “I will not have you near this village, leave now hanyou scum.” The boy looked up into the most beautiful face he ever saw.

He really didn't want to be forced to leave the village he was near. He could see past her false cold eyes. He knew that she was really a nice person. He decided to beg, he did it so often that id didn't bother him. “Please, lady-miko let me live. I will promise to help your village build houses and against youkai attacks. If you but give me a place where I can stay,” he begged. The young woman was about to deny him, when she saw the look in his eyes. She had been taught to kill, but there was something in the boy's eyes. It made her want to give him a place to stay.

“I will allow you to stay in a cave not far from the town. If you manage to convince the town that you truly are as helpful as you say you will be I will get you a hut. Follow me,” she said. Walking towards the woods. The young hanyou knew that she could just be wanting to kill him further from the town. However, he knew that most mikos wouldn't hesitate to kill a youkai or anyone one with youkai blood near their town. So he was fairly sure that he was safe, and so he followed.

She led him very deep into the woods. He saw a small cave that had a few sparse belongings in it. “Why are all of these things here?” Inuyasha asked her, kindly. The girl looks reluctant to speak of it to him, but she apparently began to realize that sense she already took him in she might as well tell him.

“You are not the first person of youkai blood that I have harbored. Though, you are the strongest one that I have. Normally, it is the weak or injured ones. There is nothing wrong with you,” the girl said turning around and leaving.

Inuyasha was upset to see her go. “May I at least know your name?” he asked, trying to make small talk with her. The woman looked at him, pondering.

“I will give you my name but first I must receive yours,” she said. Happy and content with her reasoning. Inuyasha nodded, it made perfect sense to him as well.

“I am Inuyasha,” he spoke. Fearing that she had heard of him from everyone that seemed to hate him. He feared that his brother had warned the village of him. He loved to make everything harder than it needed to be on his younger brother. Inuyasha was never really told what he had done to slight him, but he figured he just shut his mind off of it.

The woman gasped. “You are the son of the great Sesshoumaru?” she asked, scared. Inuyasha scoffed at her.

“As if any girl would bed him. He is cold and cruel, he is my half-brother. I hate him more than I have ever hated anyone. He often would beat me when I was younger, calling me all sorts of things. You still haven't told me your name,” Inuyasha said. He really wanted to know the name of the woman that was going to help him.

“Kikyo, my name is Kikyo,” She said smiling. The girl couldn't have been much older than fifteen, but she had such a look of maturity about her. It bothered Inuyasha to see her innocence tainted like that. He remembered then that humans, often had families by her age. He shuddered at the thought.

He managed to pull himself away from his thoughts long enough to talk to her again. “It is an honor to meet you, Kikyo,” he said, mostly to try out her name on his tongue. He found that he liked the way that it sounded. Everything about her attracted him to her. He was just entering into puberty even though he was one hundred and fifty years old. It was much older than any human would ever live, and if he had been a full-blooded youkai, he'd still be a child. This Kikyo was quickly turning into his first crush.

Kikyo smiled at him, she saw the slight blush on his cheeks. Maybe he wasn't so different than her. Maybe the humans were wrong about youkai and hanyous. “I have to go back to my village, but I will be sure to bring some food and supplies back for you,” She said smiling gently. Inuyasha nodded he never had any duties that he had to see to himself, but he did know the responsibility of getting them done. So he allowed her to go, hoping that she would return.

Kikyo left, eager to come and give him some food and supplies. She was set on helping the man, she only hoped that he helped her back as promised. She got to the village and bandaged the wounds from their remaining soldiers. An attack had come three days prior, and not many of their soldiers had made it. Of those that did there was only one that was unharmed. When she was done with that she went to her hut that she share with her sister, Kaede. She had to start cooking dinner for three now. Seeing, as how that was usual she knew she could do that.

She began the stew and waited for her sister to get back from playing. It didn't take long Kaede long to return. She knew her sister's schedule well, and hated to disrupt it with getting home late. “How was your day?” Kaede asked, respectfully. Kikyo looked at her fondly she always wanted children of her own. However, that wasn't possible she had her duties and that came before her wishes.

“I found someone who may be able to help the village,” Kikyo said with a smile. Kaede just looked at her. She loved her sister, but one day her heart was going to get her killed. She was always bringing strays to that cave of hers. If the villagers ever found out about it, Kikyo would be killed. That is why Kaede never told Kikyo that she knew of it. She didn't want to chance anyone overhearing what she was saying.

“Please, be careful. One of these days your going to harbor something evil,” Kaede said convinced. Kikyo just smiled at her. She was young and full of ideas, some of which were wrong. No one was completely evil, no one.

“Kaede, no one is completely evil. Everyone has some good, no matter how small,” Kikyo said. This is what her mother had always told her and what she believed as well. Kaede, well she took more of her father's views on things. He had told Kaede that demons were evil, no matter how small or weak they seemed. They were not capable of anything good. Hanyous were worse, their parents had committed a taboo between the races. They weren't meant to breed, the odd beings they got as a result proved that.

“That is exactly what mother thought! And she died harboring one of those vile creatures. Even youkai children are evil,” Kaede said, her young mind tainted already. Kikyo stopped smiling. She hated what her father had done. He had tainted the views of the young girl, and Kikyo had shunned him for that.

“Kaede, I am not in the mood. I have to go, I will be back later,” Kikyo said, hugging Kaede good-bye. Kaede was sad to see her leave. She just knew that what her sister was taking care of this time was going to cause problems. However, there was nothing that the young girl could do about it. So she left her sister to her devices, and tucked herself in bed.

Sesshoumaru had been following Inuyasha, intent on punishing him. The boy didn't know why he hated him so much, but he wasn't about to tell him. He had kept it a secret for so long and he wasn't about to change that fact. He saw the girl that had taken Inuyasha to the cave. He had failed to hear her name, but she had looked like Kagome. He was going to intercept her and see if it was her.

It had taken her longer to come back than he had expected. However, he had been happy to have the chance of having his Kagome back. She had promised that she'd come back, and this girl was the first thing that had resembled his lost love. He wasn't just going to let the chance pass him by. When he saw that the girl was coming back he jumped down in front of her. “What is your name, and why are you taking care of Inuyasha?” he asked. His voice was cold, it could have been Kagome, but it could also not be.

Kikyo had no clue who this man was, there wasn't even the small recognition of someone long ago met. If she hadn't sensed that she couldn't purify him then she would have shot an arrow at him. As it was, the arrow would do nothing more than annoy him. Kikyo knew that an annoyed powerful youkai was not good. So she decided to answer his questions. “My name is Kikyo, I am taking care of him, because he had no one,” Kikyo answered, voice stern and eyes cold.

Sesshoumaru knew immediately that it wasn't her. Her answer didn't mean much to him. The only reason that he asked the question was so he could see if it was her. Seeing as it wasn't he would have nothing further to do with her. Kagome had lied to him she wasn't coming back. “You are wasting your time on such a lowly half-breed as him,” he said. He was about to walk away when her voice stopped him.

“You are Sesshoumaru aren't you?” Kikyo asked. Sesshoumaru didn't give her any answer just walked away, hair swinging in the breeze. Kikyo shrugged she would just ask Inuyasha about what Sesshoumaru was like. She hurried along to the cave.

Inuyasha heard Kikyo's soft footsteps, and he perked up. He could also smell the food, along with Sesshoumaru! Inuyasha was worried. His brother could have done anything to her. When Kikyo walked in he asked her, “What did Sesshoumaru do to you?” Inuyasha didn't trust his brother to not to do something. Sesshoumaru had, obviously, seen her with him.

“He seemed to be looking for someone. Once he heard my name he looked slightly, saddened. He didn't seem as evil as you claim him to be,” Kikyo said. She hadn't seen the evil that Inuyasha was convinced was there. Inuyasha laughed, he now knew how his brother could get some. He lied his ass off to the ladies, and then left the broken. Inuyasha really didn't have any proof of this, it was merely his idea.

“Well, don't be fooled by that. He is a bastard, that is for sure,” Inuyasha said. Kikyo smiled at him and handed him the bowl of stew she had made for him. Inuyasha forgot all about his hateful brother when he saw the food. It smelled delicious, but tasted divine. The food was gone in record time, and Inuyasha thanked her properly.

Kikyo picked up the eating utensils when he was finished. She bid him a goodnight and left him alone. She went back to her hut, unaware as to the youkai following her.

Sesshoumaru followed Kikyo back to her hut. He knew that it wasn't Kagome, but he had formed an evil plot. He would foster a relationship between Kikyo and Inuyasha, and when the moment arose, he would steal her from him. Revenge for Inuyasha taking Kagome from him.
