Thicker Than Blood by GlassDoll
New enemy
I'm trying my hand at another story since my muse for my last one died. It was an accident really. D: I just got so busy with moving, graduation, parental being laid off, possibly being kicked out of the house we're renting, that I wasn't able to give my muse any TCL. But I will finish it, eventually. I hope you enjoy this one and please review.
Disclaimer: If I owned Inuyasha I would be making this a reality but I don't so you'll just have to be content with this.

It was a slightly chilling breeze that brushed against Sesshomaru's senses as he quietly made his way through Inuyasha's forest. He was making his monthly visit to the expanding village to see his young ward whom he left 4 years ago in the care of the old Miko. He had sent Jaken ahead of him 2 days early to announce his arrival and to give Rin a new gift. She had grown a little more every time he visited her, physically and mentally. Though she still smiled just as brightly to him just as she did when she found him injured in that small grove.
The wind blew gently again and he could smell his ward's flowery scent along with the young Miko's strange stormy scent. They were about a mile away from the village near the bone eaters well. Inuyasha was closer to the village it seemed. He changed his direction slightly towards the young females not caring if Inuyasha smelled him or not. Their relationship was better if you could call it that, instead of trying to kill each other they just remain rather indifferent to the other's life. Like two ships passing in open waters.
Sesshomaru could hear laughing in the distant, which was slowly becoming louder. "Kagome-san! Do you think Sesshomaru-sama will like these?" He heard the Miko laugh before he finally broke the tree line. He remained in the shadows silently just to take in the sight before him. Rin was holding a bouquet of Wisteria and Chrysanthemums and he noticed a small flower garden near the well. The Miko was adorning the traditional garbs of a priestess and sitting on the rim of the well smiling at Rin. "You know him better than I do Rin-chan but I'm sure he will. In fact why don't you ask him yourself?" Kagome looked directly up at Sesshomaru as she finished her question, her smokey blue eyes locking with his citrine gold.
Kagome gave a welcoming smile to the stoic yokai lord. She could sense his very minimal amount of shock at her improvement in detection. Last time it took her 20 minutes to detect him and only because he flashed a bit of his youki to gain her attention. She stood up slowly as Rin ran over to her Yokai guardian. Rin now reached a little above his waist and her face was losing its baby fat. She eagerly held up her hard day's work waiting for his approval. "Sesshomaru-sama! I picked these flowers for you! They're from Kagome-san's garden, she said I could pick some for you."
He noticed how she was no longer speaking in third person and gently took the flowers from her hand. They still had some morning dew resting on their pedals and could tell they were a fresh pick. He brought his gaze to the eager, adoring face of his ward and nodded his head in approval. Rin squealed in delight and turned to Kagome in excitement. "Kagome-san, he does like them!" Kagome smiled at her sweetly. "I told you he would." She slowly stood up and dusted herself off before walking towards them. She gave Sesshomaru a polite smile. "Welcome back Sesshomaru.” He nodded a bit in acknowledgement before returning his attention back to Rin. “Did Jaken give you your new Kimono?”
She nodded with a cheerful smile. “Oh yes Sesshomaru-sama, I was going to change into it after I finished picking the flowers for you. I didn’t want to get it dirty.” He merely nodded again. Rin smiled at him then Kagome. “I’ll go try it on now.” She then started running towards where the village was and waved back to them. “I’ll be right back!” When they could no longer see her Kagome let out a little laugh before looking up at him. “She really is a sweetheart and she really missed you.” Sesshomaru didn’t respond as he continued to look in the direction Rin ran in.
Kagome felt suddenly a bit awkward as they stood in silence. She was surprised Inuyasha hadn’t showed yet though she could only guess Miroku was distracting him or something. “So…do you plan to visit long?” No answer. She sighed and decided to head back to the village. She didn’t make it two steps before Sesshomaru’s voice reached her. “Do you hear anything?” She looked at him in confusion as he continued to look out into the distance. He suddenly narrowed his eyes and she decided to listen for what he heard. After a few moments she shook her head. “No I don’t hear anything.”
“Precisely.” Was his answer. Kagome furrowed her brow in confusion and decided to listen again. She realized then what he meant. She couldn’t hear anything, no birds, no animals, not even wind. She also realized that she couldn’t sense Inuyasha or Shippo in the village. “What’s going on?” She asked him. He didn’t respond but his eyes narrowed again before they suddenly widened and not even a second later she was pushed out of the way of a blast.
She was coughing as dust filled her lungs but she looked up to see Sesshomaru dodging another attack. Maniacal laughing could be heard around them and she looked up to the sky to see a man floating in the air. He was a lean, tall, man with silver hair and violet eyes. Behind him were two, large, butterfly wings made up of an array of colors, all which shined in the sun light.
She blinked in awe; the man was even more beautiful than Sesshomaru if you could believe it. The man threw another blast at Sesshomaru before speaking. “Sesshomaru we meet at last, I’m sure you’ve realized who I am by now.” Sesshomaru was now standing straight and glaring up at the obvious yokai. The yokai spoke again. “Very well, I am the brother of the sister you killed. My beloved Mimori.”
Sesshomaru let out a little scoff before speaking. “I merely disposed of a conniving whore who thought she could manipulate me.” The yokai above let out an angry growl and glared down at Sesshomaru. “How dare you insult my sister you filthy mongrel! I will seal your doom.” He shot another blast which Sesshomaru dodged. The yokai let out an evil chuckle before showing something silver in his hand causing Sesshomaru to narrow his eyes.
“I had one of my underlings get this for me, it’s a strand of your hair. With this I shall seal your doom. I would normally just kill you but where’s the fun in that?” Kagome watched as suddenly Sesshomaru looked to the ground in surprise though she had know idea on how she knew this. Sesshomaru himself was cursing himself for being so easily led; he found his feet unable to move due to the butterfly’s binding spell. Hardening cocoons were forming around his feet from small butterflies.
Sesshomaru glared up at the butterfly who was giving another sinister laugh and forming a different color blast. “I suppose I should tell you my name before I turn you into a human, the very thing you despise. I am Kagami, brother to Mimori. Remember this.” He said with an evil grin. What happened next was all in a blur as Kagome ran right into the next blast, shielding Sesshomaru’s body. She bit down on her bottom lip hard enough to draw blood as searing pain ran through her. Sesshomaru looked slightly shocked at her when the blast ended.
Kagami glared down at them and let out a loud curse before disappearing in a shimmering light much like a mirage. The cocoons around Sesshomaru’s feet cracked and shattered allowing his freedom. He held the unconscious Miko and heard Inuyasha in the distance. Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes as he couldn’t see nor smell any wounds. What he did smell caused him some curiosity if not some concern. Before he could really investigate Inuyasha came bursting through the trees. “Kagome!”
Inuyasha glared at Sesshomaru and took Kagome from his grasp. “What the hell did you do to her?” Sesshomaru stared at her in question, barely listening to his younger brother. “Do you not use your eyes Inuyasha, we were attacked. The Miko got in the way, nothing more.” Before Inuyasha could retort Kagome’s voice reached him. He looked down at her to see her smiling weakly. “Inuyasha I’m fine, just a little winded.” Inuyasha let out a little ‘keh’ sound. “Well I’m not going to chance it, I’m going to have Kaede look at you.”
He gently placed her on her feet and she smiled gratefully at him. She suddenly frowned as she got a whiff of something foul. “Boy Inuyasha you really need a bath, you stink badly.” She looked at him and noticed that he was looking at her in complete shock as if she just grew another head. “What? It’s true.” Inuyasha then looked at her in concern. “K-kagome?” She glared at him. “Has nobody told you, you need a bath?”
She looked over to Sesshomaru who was also looking at her strangely. “What? Why is everyone looking at me funny?” A soft breeze suddenly blew and silver hair came into her sight. She froze when she suddenly realized that it was her hair. She grabbed more and pulled it in front of her not fining a strand of black. She quickly pulled out her compact, which she kept in her pocket and looked into the mirror. What she saw caused her to stop breathing for a second. She no longer had black hair and human ears but instead had silver hair and silver dog ears much like Inuyasha. She had one smokey blue stripe on each cheek and smokey blue lines above her eyelids like Sesshomaru. She slowly with a shaky hand lifted her bangs to reveal a small crescent moon on her forehead. She brought her stunned gaze to both of the brothers before promptly fainting.
