Disturbing Dreams
Chapter 88 - Disturbing Dreams
*Darkness that Tears at the Darkness* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge 2)
Kagome tossed and turned in her sleep, waking Sesshoumaru from his light doze. He studied her in the firelight with concern, watching as her lips moved as she mumbled. He had no idea what to do. She didn't seem frightened but she obviously wasn't having the best dream. Should he wake her or allow her to continue to sleep? The taiyoukai glanced at Inuyasha for help but the hanyou merely shrugged.
The miko moaned softly as her mind tormented her with worrisome images. She giggled before taking another sip of her wine. She kissed the taiyoukai passionately, grinding herself against him, and he carefully moved her off of him, refusing to take advantage of her intoxicated state. She whined in disappointment before speaking, confessing her highly guarded secret. "I love you, Sesshoumaru."
Instantly, she was apologizing for her words, worried that he would turn his back on her now. When he didn't, when he said that he was glad she said it, Kagome's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Then he said the same.
Kagome sat up with a gasp, her eyes wide, and Sesshoumaru instantly had a hold of her shoulders, trying to get her to focus on his face. "Kagome, it's all right," he murmured comfortingly. "It was just a dream."
The miko's eyes finally focused in the low light, seeing the taiyoukai. "A dream?" she asked. When he nodded, her shoulders fell, disappointment clear in her scent.
"Did you wish for it to be real?" he asked in confusion. She'd seemed distressed by her dream but now she was obviously let down by reality.

"I wouldn't have minded," she said with a sigh. This wasn't the first time she'd had such a dream. She'd actually been having the same one over and over again for the last week or more, ever since her night drinking wine with the taiyoukai, and Kagome wondered what it meant. Was her mind trying to encourage her to tell him her true feelings? That he would reciprocate if she did? She knew she couldn't do such a thing. He might want to be with her, but he would never want her to fall for him, knowing that he couldn't possibly be with her forever.
"Do you want to talk about it? It might help."
Kagome studied Sesshoumaru's face, a blush staining her cheeks. "No, I'm good," she replied. She couldn't talk to him about it! How could she when it had to do with him and things she could never say? No, she had to keep her mouth shut. She yawned and then lay back down, feigning sleep as her thoughts whirled in her mind. Why did she have to fall for him? She knew she was only going to end up with her heart broken. Why couldn't she control her own feelings?
Sesshoumaru watched as she lay perfectly still. He knew she was still awake, just as he knew something was upsetting her, but there was nothing he could do to help her, not if she didn't want to share. He wished she could sleep peacefully. She seemed so tired lately, all because her dreams were haunting her. He wanted nothing more than to make it better for her, but he was helpless, a feeling that he didn't enjoy a bit.
