Chapter three: Kirin

Quiet. That’s all Sesshomaru could think about as he sat against the tree, the sun beaming down on his face. With quiet, he could think to himself. His thoughts normally were that of power, as well as his lands. This time his thoughts were plagued by a certain miko. A miko whose scent was that of spring, and whose eyes reminded him of winter. Twice had she shown her presence to him. Twice she had shown no fear. Even with a sword pointed at her, she did not fear him.

Golden eyes slowly opened as he looked up at the clear blue sky. He wondered what the miko was doing at the moment. Knowing her, she was screaming at the half breed about something irrelevant. Something pathetic even. He wondered to himself why she even put up with the Hanyou. It was obvious that at one point she loved him. Even though he showed her that he was not loyal to her, the miko stayed. Why? He would never know.

Though why the raven haired miko kept going though his mind, he could not figure out. It wasn’t like he liked her. In fact, he couldn’t stand her very presence. She got in his way more then once. Honestly, he should have killed her a long time ago. Then again, he had tried. Tried twice and failed. They always said that third time’s the charm, but he wasn’t going to bother.

“I see that the great Inu No Taisho has offspring.” A voice said, not too far away from where he sat.

Golden irises narrowed as Sesshomaru looked over to see a child standing not too far away from him. Instantly he knew that the child was indeed no child that he knew of. The clothing was different, royalty spoke in many words with the golden colors that donned his body. The Chinese crown on his head gave it away as well. Sesshomaru wasn’t fooled. The child was no Chinese lord. He was neither human, nor youkai. It was a holy being that stood before him. A holy being that had no gender or race of its own.

Sesshomaru quickly stood, then bowed before the being before him. Even as powerful as he was, including the fact that he bowed to no one, this was the only being in the world he would do that very thing to.

“Kirin.” Sesshomaru said, his voice soft. “What do I owe the honor of being in your presence?”

The child chuckled. “Yes, it is odd that I would come to you isn’t it? The son of Inu No Taisho. You are the first son are you not? Which means that you are now of possession of the west. A great lord just like your father was.”

“Father has died. He perished a long time ago because of a human.”

The Kirin shook its head. “And as a son of a great lord, I’m sure you are angry at his decision. I am sure that you, Sesshomaru-sama, would one day walk the same path that your father would.”

Sesshomaru raised his head to look at the being to see its true form standing before him. Its hooves where flaming, its eyes golden like gold itself. He knew not to take this creature lightly. With this dragon like face and horse like body, Sesshomaru knew that its pure power was before him. As strong as he was, the Kirin was stronger.

“I will not walk that same path.” Sesshomaru said to the Kirin. “I will rule the west with strength that my father never had. They will not speak of him as the strongest, but this Sesshomaru instead.”

“I recall your father saying those words to me oh so long ago.” Chuckled the Kirin. “He swore that he would become stronger then his father. Surpass anyone and everyone. That his very name would strike fear into anyone’s hearts. Yet he fell in love. He fell in love with a human woman. Just like how you, Sesshomaru, are starting to fall for a human miko.”

Sesshomaru glared at the holy being. “This Sesshomaru feels nothing for the miko.”

It shook its dragon like head. “You will see. For now, the world may see you as a fearsome lord, but I have yet to be swayed Sesshomaru. Prove to me that you are strong enough for the west. If you prove to me, I will come back and acknowledge you as the true lord to the west. Your rule will be strong and your dreams will be fulfilled. But till then, others will see you as king. But I will not. Prove to me that you are fit for that throne.” The Kirin turned and walked away, flowers appearing where it stepped. Finally, it disappeared before the taiyoukai’s eyes.

Sesshomaru’s clawed hand clenched tight enough that blood fell from his palm. Every once in a while, the Kirin would visit a lord. If that lord proved worthy, then he would rule with an iron fist. The fact that the beast told him that he was not worthy yet, angered him more then anything.

“I will prove to you that I am worthy of my father’s lands.” He growled under his breath. “This Sesshomaru will see to it.”
