Chapter one: Lunch

“Sesshomaru!” A five year old Kagome yelled as she ran to the six year old silver haired youkai in the field.

She turned his sunset eyes to settle to a pair of chocolate brown who smiled up at him. A clawed hand reached down to take the small daisy. “Thank you Kagome-chan.” He said, ruffling her hair.

The little girl giggled as she took the flower and placed it above his pointy ear. “Sesshomaru, guess what daddy asked me today!”

He smiled at her. “What’s that?”

“Daddy asked me what I wanted to do in the future! I told him that I was going to marry Sesshomaru one day!”

A slight blush brushed against his pale cheeks. “R-really?” He said, looking away from the girl.

Kagome tilted her head as she continued to watch him. “I wanna be your wife in the future Sesshomaru. I’ll bring you flowers every day and love you every day!”

He finally looked back at her and couldn’t help it but to smile at her. “Then one day you’ll be my wife Kagome and I’ll come home to you every day and tell you how much I love you too.”

The small girl giggled as she kissed his striped cheek. “Pinky promise?” She stuck out her little finger.

He hooked his small finger around her own. “It’s a promise that I would never break.”

“I swear to god Sango, if I watch her touch his ass one more time, I’m going to throw my books at her.” Kagome growled.

The raven haired teen chuckled. “Relax Kagome. Kagura kind of has that right. She is Sesshomaru’s girlfriend after all.”

The teen sighed as she placed her head on the desk. It had been twelve years sense her and Sesshomaru made that promise. Of course it was only a kids promise, but Kagome never fell out of love with the inu youkai. Sesshomaru on the other hand seemed to stray away from her. Now she was in her junior year in high school while Sesshomaru was in his senor year. Sure, he could have skipped a couple grades and already be in the business world with his father, but he never did such a thing.

It was never that he ignored her now. He still hung out with her, they still walked to school together and home together, but Kagome knew he didn’t love her. He probably never did in the first place. But Kagome always held hope that he would. After all, out of everyone, she understood him the most. She remembered the day that she confessed to him too. When she told him that she loved him, Kagura showed up in shock and looked like she was about to cry. Kagome began to cover up saying things like she was just practicing to say she loved a different guy and Sesshomaru was just helping her out. She ran off then and cried in the arms of her best friend Sango. That was back in middle school. Now she was in high school and determined to start a new.

“Earth to Kagome.” Sango said, snapping her fingers in the face of the daydreaming girl.

Kagome blinked a couple times before looking over at Sango. “What’s up?” She asked confused.

The girl shook her head. “Come on, its lunch and we’re supposed to meet the gang out in the courtyard.”

A bright smile reached her lips as she grabbed he bag. “Lets get going.” She said as she followed her friend out of the classroom.

“Oh shut it mutt-face!” Kouga snapped as he wrapped his arms around the red headed wolf in his arms. “Ayame is defiantly a better girlfriend then your own.”

Inuyasha growled. “Kikyou is ten times better then Ayame!”

“Or how about the fact that you both love your girlfriends and glad that you guys even have someone.” Kagome snapped at the two.

Both the men looked over at her for a moment. Inuyasha ‘oofed’ as Kikyou elbowed him in the ribs.

“Kagome, I still think you should go looking for a guy.” Kikyou said as she stole a bite from Kagome’s lunch.

Kagome gave her cousin a look. “Lets see here, your saying that because you have Inuyasha, Kouga has Ayame, Sango is with Miroku, Sesshomaru is with the she devil, and I’m single? No thank you. I think I’m good watching you guys having fun with your dates. After all, if I had a date, then I couldn’t go to clubs. I would end up having a jealous boyfriend who would end up snapping every time that a guy even came close to me.” She shot a glare at Kouga.

“No, the reason why you wont get a date is because your still holding onto that childish dream that you had so long ago.” Inuyasha pointed out.

Kagome turned her deadly gaze over to Inuyasha before popping another piece of food in her mouth. It was true though. She tried dating so many times. She dated Kouga, and even Hojo, but they weren’t Sesshomaru. They didn’t have his laugh, his smile, or even the light touch that he had when he brushed her fingertips.

“Shut it half-breed.”

The group looked over at Sesshomaru came to the group, Kagura clinging to his arm. As soon as she saw the two, Kagome became quiet and looked down at her food. Sesshomaru had been going steady with Kagura for five years. Knowing Inuyoukai, they stayed with those they liked. And if Sesshomaru kept Kagura for so long, Kagome was sure that he would mate her. After all, she was a full youkai while Kagome was only human.

Ayame saw how quiet and timid that Kagome got as soon as she saw the two and instantly got mad at the taiyoukai. “You know, you could bring your whore somewhere else. I don’t mind seeing you here Sesshomaru, but if your going to eat with us for lunch, take that bitch somewhere else.”

Kagura narrowed her blood red eyes. “Your just sour because I got to be head cheerleader while your vice captain. On top of that, my boyfriend is much better then that wolf of yours. And I bet that I can please him better then you can even please yourself.”

Ayame growled and would have gotten up if it wasn’t for Kouga’s arms holding her down tight. “Calm down Ayame. She’s not worth it.” Kouga whispered.

“Oh like hell she is!” Snapped the red head.

Kagome closed the lid to her bento and stood up. “I’ll see you guys later.” She said, her false smile on her face. She always hid behind her smile. “I guess I’ll see you after school Sesshomaru.” After all, they did live right next door.

Before the taiyoukai could open his mouth, Kagura butt in. “Oh he didn’t tell you Higurashi? Sesshomaru is walking me home from now on. So you can stop waiting for him after school all the time.”

Kagome’s fist tightened against her bento box. Closing her eyes for a moment she steeled her feelings to look at the two, her smile in place once more. “Oh okay. Then I guess I’ll see you guys later.” She took off then. Youkai could smell tears and she sure as hell wasn’t going to let the bitch see her cry.

“Tramp.” Kagura muttered under her breath. “Why do you even hang out with a girl like that Sesshomaru? Or these people for that matter? You know there are better people out there that you can hang out with. My brother’s gang is cool compare to these people.”

Sesshomaru shot her a glare. “Get off me.” He growled at her. “This Sesshomaru never told you that I would walk you home. Do not change my plans with me just because your jealousy clouds your better judgment.”

Kagura bit her lip. “I apologize.” She said softly. “I need to go meet up with my brother. I’ll see you after school.” She kissed his cheek and ran off.

A growl escaped his lips as he sat down with his friends who just looked at him in shock.

“Why do you even stay with a bitch like that?” Inuyasha asked him. “I mean, I’ve had my share of bad dates, but you’ve been going on and off with that girl for years. Even I’m starting to become disappointed in you Sesshomaru.”
 
Sesshomaru glance at his half brother. “Its none of your business half breed.”

Sango huffed. “It starts being our problem Sesshomaru when Kagome gets that look.”

Sesshomaru stood up. “I need to go somewhere. Please excuse me.”

Miroku chuckled and shook his head as the taiyoukai disappeared back into the building. “So how long do you think it would take the two to realize that the other loves them?”

The bets began.
