Flashback.

"Lord Sesshomaru!" The servant girl's frantic cry rang throughot the Western wing of the palace. "Lord Sesshomaru!" A shoji
screen slid open to reveal a smiling young man. The Lord was tall and well-built, with shining silver hair that reached his mid-back. His pale skin was flawless, but the most striking of his features were his bright amber eyes, shining with love and
laughter.
"Yes?" The man questioned in his deep, baritone voice. The servant stopped and turned towards her master.
"Lady Aisu.." The girl managed to pant.
"Ah, yes, and how is my lovely wife this evening?" The Lord responded, voice laced with tender affection. The servant paled
further.
"she...My Lady has collapsed!" The servant choked out. The happy glint left Sesshomaru's eyes. Without waiting for the poor
girl, he began to full-out sprint towards his wife's chambers. Reaching her quarters, he forwent manners and slammed back the
screen door. The Lord's worried gaze fell upon his wife's small form, lying still on the floor, her usually sun-kissed skin
pale white. Ragged breaths escaped her, her body shaking like a leaf in the wind. The lord rushed to her side, falling to
his knees.
"Leave us!" He commanded of the servants, who obediently rushed from the room. As soon as they were alone, the Lord spoke.
"Aisu, what ails you my love?"
"My Lord," came lady Aisu's faint reply, "The Gods are selfish. They desire my beauty, and have wished for illness to befall
me so that they might rip me from your grasp." The lady coughed harshly and shuddered from the strain of speaking. Sesshomaru felt numb. He reached out and gently grasped his wife's tiny hand.
"The Gods will not have you," he declared boldly, "You are mine. No theif, man or God, shall take what is mine."
This made the Lady smile and she chuckled weakly.
"Wait for me, My Lord, in the garden where we first met," her breaths were becoming shallower, "Wait for me, beneath this
fuedal moon, and one night I shall return to you. For I promise that not even the Gods can keep me from you forever. Wo Ai Ni, Sesshomaru. It is you I love." The Lady took her last, strangled breath, lightly squeezed her husband's strong hand, and fell
limp. The Lord stayed by his departed wife for a long time. He stayed as her eyes fluttered closed, as her breath halted. Her
pulse slowed, eventually stopped, and the lively glow left her skin to be replaced with a cold blue tinge. A silent tear fell
down his cheek as he reached to tuck a stray lock behind her ear, careful his nails did not scratch her soft skin. He leaned in
and placed a last, chaste kiss upon her lips. Letting go of her hand and standing slowly, the Lord turned and walked towards
the door. One hand against the screen, he paused and looked back at his love for the final time.
"Ashiteru, My Love." The Lord's whisper carried through the air, thick with sorrow. He slid open the door and exited the room.
Sesshomaru's heart, heavy with loss, began to cover with a layer of ice.
Time passed, but the young Lord never regained his smile, laughter, or passion for life. He was now stoic, uncaring, and
seemingly emotionless. He came to be revered as a merciless ruler and brilliant military strategist, but never assumed the
roles of lover, father, or friend. Those around the Lord aged and died, but Sesshomaru did not. It was his burden to bear;
the Gods did not wish him to join his love, even through death. And so, he was cursed to roam until he loved another, but his
heart was too full with grief and longing to spare room for love. The only condolence he allowed himself was to wait for her,
every night, beneath the feudal moon. Waiting, and hoping for her to fufill her promise to return to him.
