This was her happily ever after. Despite the hard-times, chaos, and pain leading to this one moment, this was it. This moment was the moment she had waited for her entire life. This was her one purpose set before her by God Almighty for her 80-some years on the planet Earth. This one simple moment.

The sun shone through the leaves of the oak and maple trees surrounding her yard. It's light warming the shadows where she sat in the cool green grass. It was early summer, the temperature was not yet too hot or humid to be sweating all over, yet it was not cool enough to need a jacket or sweater. It was just right. A gentle breeze caressed the leaves above, sending the sound of it's rustling to the ears of the two below it's protective branches. She sat, black hair pulled into a braid down her back, in a cream colored sun dress with little flowers embroidered all over it. A simple gold chain sat upon her collar bone, a single little locket pressed against her porcelain skin. Her knees were tucked under her body, her bare arms reaching for the small child who was discovering the grass, a bug, rocks, and some twigs.

“That, my dear son,” she said softly, leaning over him as he stared at an ant, “is a black ant. Ants live in colonies where they live and work together to create a successful life. They are much like us, however, they follow blinding when we think for ourselves...well, sometimes,” she added with a small chuckle. The boy stepped, tottered, and fell back on his diapered butt. His mother smiled kindly.

“Come on, love. Stand back up. You can do it,” she encouraged him, her hands pressing the grass around her legs. He put his pudgy little hands onto the grass and hoisted himself up. He swayed before standing proudly on his still uncertain legs. “There you go, love!” She praised.

They moved on their way, his mother describing each thing he stopped to look at. He didn't understand at the time, but he was encountering his first of a lifetime of lessons about nature, life, and people. All that entered his mind was the distractions at movement, color, and his mother's sweet voice.

From the doorway of their two story, four bedroom home, a tall man stood, shoulder pressed against the wooden door frame. There was a smile shimmering in his golden eyes, and a faint one pulling at his lips. His white dress sleeves were pulled up to his elbows, and his black slacks and shined black shoes looked odd in comparison to the woman's sun dress. His silver hair was pulled back in a short pony tail at the base of his neck, a few bangs brushing against his forehead. The silver strands of silk caressed the markings of his heritage that were proudly placed upon the center of his brow. His golden eyes burrowed into the back of his beloved mate as she knelt in the grass with their son, talking to him as if she was talking to a much older child, telling him of the tree above them. Her head turned, her blue eyes shinning like the sun reflects off a river. A smile pulled on her ruby lips as she found him watching them.

He stepped away from the house, his stride powerful yet relaxed. His son looked up, golden eyes flashing in the sunlight as his father approached. A squealed giggle left the boy as his father stooped, picking him up. The boy howled with laughter as he was held up above his father's head, his father's strong hands encircling the boy's stomach and back. His mother laughed as the boy was pulled into his father's warm embrace.

“I thought I would take a break,” he said after a moment, sitting down in the grass with his son. The woman stared at him, her face glowing with pride.

“I'm glad you decided to join us, Sesshoumaru” she said softly, kneeling beside him, her slender hands plucking her son out of his father's tail.

“Kagome,” he murmured, his hand reaching up to caress her cheek as their son once again found his father's tail. Kagome smiled, love pouring through her eyes as their lips met in a passionate kiss. He grunted as his son's sharp little claws bit into his leg, their kiss ending as he picked up the rambunctious little tyke. Their son giggled as he was sat down on the grass between his parents.

“Little Inumaru,” Kagome whispered, lightly ticking his pudgy cheeks.

“I think,” her husband growled in her ear, “we need to have more pups...”
