The Demon Behind the Counter by DeathsSilentApproach

~

Kagome slid down the water slid with barely suppressed glee.  She had decided to treat herself to this water park as a way to get her mind off of her recent break up.  The pain it had caused her pierced her as easily as a patch of rose thorns.  Inuyasha had dropped her as quickly as was possible when he discovered that his former girlfriend Kikyou had reappeared in town.

Now as her body slapped the water at the end of the slid she could think of nothing other than the fun that she was currently having.  Sango had invited her along with her, Miroku, and Shippu when she had discovered that Inuyasha had broken up with her.  Heaving her body out of the water she sat on a nearby bench and panted as she tried to calm down her beating heart.

Glancing up at the nearby clock tower she took note of the fact that she needed to meet up with her friends in half an hour.  Thinking back she tried to remember where they had decided to meet up for lunch.  Suddenly the memory struck her and she turned and took the side way path that led to her left hoping that this would lead her to where she needed.

Suddenly she found herself running face first into what she could only describe as a flesh colored wall.  Looking up she caught sight of a beautiful face that she at first assumed was a female.  "I am so sorry for running into you."

"Hn, watch where you are going next time."

The voice of the figure before her caught her off guard.  The voice belonged to someone of the male persuasion.  "I told you I'm sorry no need to be rude," she replied when she remembered what he said and the tone he said it in.  Pausing she opened her mouth to speak once more.

Before she could speak he interrupted, "I do not care if you apologized or not; you ran into this Sesshoumaru regardless.  Not only that but I do not care to hear your excuses."

"Excuses!  I was going to ask you for some directions but apparently you have no manners to speak of.  Kagome snapped in annoyance.  "So if you'll excuse me I must be going.  I do, after all, need to find someone to ask where I need to go."  Stomping away she ignored the growl emitted by the demon male behind her.  Obviously he had some major issues if he thought he could control her when she wasn't even his species.  After all she was no female dog demon.  She was a miko born and bred.

Sesshoumaru couldn't hold back that threatening growl that escaped his throat.  Manner-less was he?!  He didn't even know what it was that she needed to know.  He paused in thought, he hadn't allowed her to ask him what she need to know so of course it would seem that he was manner-less.

 (Twenty Minutes Later)

Kagome finally arrived at the small restaurant that she and her friends had agreed to meet at after asking three different people for directions.  She really couldn't help that she sucked telling the direction that she needed to go in.  Stepping up to the counter she found herself face to face with the male she had encountered earlier. "You again," she muttered with a sigh.  "Have you seen a monk, a human female, and a kitsune come in here?"

Sesshoumaru raised an eyebrow at the miko in front of him.  "What is a miko doing looking for a demon?"

Kagome sighed and sat down on a barstool in front of him, "Shippu is a dear friend of mine as well as several other demons despite what any of my ancestors might have thought of demons in the past.  In fact I myself have dated demons in the past and never had any problems with them being demons and me being a miko.  In fact my last boyfriend was a half dog demon."

Sesshoumaru snorted, "You are telling me this why?  I really don't care about your problems nor do I care about the fact that you dated demons before."

Kagome jerked back fully infuriated when she heard a bell chime behind her, "Kagome you managed to get here before the rest of us!" a loud cheerful voice that she recognized as her kitsune friend Shippu.

Whirling about on her stool she let a large smile stretch its way across her face, "Shippu!  Right on time as always," she said standing ignoring the demon behind her once more not noticing the scowl he directed at her friend."Ah beautiful Kagome,  too bad you did not remain with us." Miroku said as he walked up to her while opening his arms wide as if to embrace her.

"Don't even think about it pervert." Sango growled from behind him as she hit him upside the head.  "Oh Kagome I hope you have been having fun despite Inuyasha being here."

Kagome froze, "Inuyasha is here?" she managed to squeak.

Sango froze as well, "You didn't know?  This was his entire idea.  I thought I had told you that he would be here with Kikyou."

Kagome wordlessly shook her head.  Before she could say anything else the male behind her spoke, "Was there something you wanted to order?"

Kagome slowly turned to him once more, "A coke if possible please?  And a hamburger with bacon as well."

Shippu moved forward slowly was well, "I would like a slice of pepperoni pizza and a sprite."

"I would like a hotdog with all the toppings and a doctor pepper."  Sango replied as she stepped forward .

"I would like a slice of ham pizza with a doctor pepper as well."  Miroku said with a grin.

"Twenty five dollars and fifty-seven scents."  The male replied as he rang up the total.  "Miko do me a favor and do not pill your guts to me again."

"No need to be so angry with me.  Cause now you have black mail on me."  Kagome snapped as she made to move away from the counter clutching the receipt in her hand.  "Come on guys let's sit in that corner."  She said leading the way to the booth furthest from the male.

Shippu shook his head as he followed his small miko friend to the booth she had gestured to.  This was not the way for Sesshoumaru to go about catching her attention.  Throwing a glance back at Sesshoumaru he took stock of the other male's expression.  It was closed off as was usual but he also noticed the look of slight hurt that set in as Kagome moved further away from him.  "You shouldn't have treated her like you did.  She was opening up to you and you pushed her away.  Of course she is going to want to be as far from you as she possible could when you treated her like trash." This was said under his breath knowing that Sesshoumaru would hear him.

"So have any of you. . ." Kagome was interrupted before she could finish her sentence.

"What are you doing here Kagome?" was heard from behind the group.  The voice it was spoken in was high pitched and reminded them of nails scratching down a chalk board.

"Kikyou; how nice to see you here."  Kagome managed to grind out between clenched teeth as she turned around to face the person who she considered her worst nightmare.

"Oh yes I am here with Yasha of course.  He had this all nice and set up for me by my request.  Didn't he tell you?  He is going to ask me to marry him.  I overheard him talking with our friends."

"That's nice Kikyou but I need to leave." Kagome got up and went to walk out of the door when a clawed hand caught her arm.  Turning she came face to face with the demon behind the counter, "Can I help you?"

"Go out with me?"

Kagome's eyes widened, "I don't even know. . ." she paused if she agreed she would be getting to know him so why not.  "Sure why not."
