The night sky was clear that evening. The stars  shined brightly, next to the moon at its perfect crescent. With its excessive pollution, it was rare to see Tokyo's night sky to perfect. Living at a shrine has its advantages. No lights were on around her, and Kagome loved to walk into the forest next to the shrine on clear nights, and watch the stars float above her. It had been twenty years since the well closed. Her grandfather had passed away years after her return, and so she stayed to take care of the shrine, while her mother moved out to live with her new boyfriend. Kagome didn't mind living alone, but she didn't want to be alone for the rest of her life as the protector of the Shikon no tama. Coming back from the feudal era, she found herself not aging and after breaking her ankle trying to jump down the well, Kagome found that she was able to heal almost like a youkai.

Souta moved to the U.S to go to college and fell in love with a young girl named Sara. They had been married for 12 years this spring. He came to visit every year, and she tried not to notice that every year he looked older. Kagome turned 19 for the 20th year in a row, and it was becoming exhausting. Without fail, her brother sent a birthday cake, ordered from the bakery four streets over. It sat in her kitchen, uneaten, and had been there for days already. It seemed as if she lost her appetite too. Maybe she was turning into a demon....or maybe that was the only way she could cope to what was happening. It was not like she could die from starvation.

The sound of the trees swaying in the wind brought Kagome back to herself. She may be invincible but there were things she did not want to happen to her. Not all wounds were skin deep.

There was a flash of white between the trees and Kagome quickly scrambled up from the ground.

"This is private property! Please leave!", she yelled, hoping it was just teenagers she could scare away.

It was no teenager however who strode out from the trees, but a giant white dog. A giant white dog that looked eerily familiar. One that had the same crescent moon from the sky on its forehead.  The name instantly popped into Kagome's head and was the last thought she had before she dropped to the ground in a faint.

'Sesshomaru.'

She slept so peacefully. It had been 500 years since he had last seen her. He no longer slept peacefully. He barely slept at all anymore. The only thing he did it seems was make more money. With the money left over as Lord of the Western Lands, he started a loan company, which turned into a bank, and now he was a successful owner of one the largest banks in the world. He had four vice-presidents and three advisors that took care of most of the work, and all he did was sign papers every now and again. They knew not to bother him with unimportant information, and he paid them well enough to know that. His latest project was one that he had been building for the last 43 years. He was the wealthy benefactor of an orphanage in Tokyo. The children sometimes reminded him of Rin. There was nothing left from his past.

Until her.

He had been running through what was left of Inuyasha's forest, when he smelt it. The scent reminded him of his days as Lord, and he did not know why until he tracked down the scent and found her. She was lying on the grass exactly as he remembered her 500 years ago. It was impossible to humans to live so long, and he wanted to know how she did it. As he let himself be seen through the foliage, he knew she spotted him. Her eyes widened and her scent became laced with surprise and recognition. When she fainted, he watched her drop to the ground, before changed into his humanoid form.

Watching her now, he felt a strange sense of happiness. This miko was the only link to his past, someone who knew him as he was. Maybe he could find more happiness with her.

Slowly thinking of it, he gently picked her up, and strolled back the direction her scent went. Walking out of the dark forest into the clear moonlight, Sesshomaru found his new purpose, and it was with this strange miko from his past.
