A death sentence
Kagome couldn’t believe what the doctor was telling her. All the dizziness, the headaches, and sometimes nausea, this was the cause. She shouldn’t be running all over feudal era Japan when she was…dying. Glioblastoma, that was the death sentence that was just handed to her. She didn’t dare to tell her mother, she immediately threw away the printed piece of paper from the doctor.
They couldn’t afford a biopsy, or any surgery and her mother would work herself to death to try to gather the money, she couldn’t leave her family with huge medical bills when the treatment wouldn’t even save her life, three months tops. She looked at the pills, the pain would get worse, these pills would make it bearable. Kagome was half a mile from the shrine when it suddenly started to pour rain, she looked around noticing everyone had an umbrella but her.
~Does everyone have an umbrella but me?~ Kagome thought to herself. Unknown to her, someone was watching her from underneath his umbrella. Gold eyes watched as her shoulders slumped and she continued to walk alone.
~So the miko was not just sick but she was dying and this is when she found out.~ the man thought to himself as he followed her until she reached the shrine, there he stood at the bottom of the staircase looking up as the wind blew his moonlit silver hair.
~A selfless human until the end.~ he thought as he turned and walked away. Kagome made it to the top of the stairs and turned to look down at the sidewalk, seeing no one she knew but watched someone in a long black wool coat under a black umbrella walk away. Kagome was drenched from head to toe, she slipped her shoes off,
“Oh honey, go up and grab a warm bath before you catch a cold.” her mother chided her,
“Hm.” Kagome giving her a small smile and walking upstairs to her room, she put the pain medication in one of her drawers in her room as she sighed and started to peel her rain drenched clothes off and head into the bathroom. There she sat in the tub as it filled up,
~I guess all those times gramps made the sick excuses finally came true.~ Kagome thought to herself. She wanted to share it with someone but didn’t want them to take pity on her. What could she tell Inuyasha or Shippo when they smelt it? Could she lie? Would they even push the issue? Shippo would but Inuyasha was too busy with Kikyou to care. She knew there was someone who would be able to sense her lies; Sesshomaru.
They were going to his lands to practically beg him to help them kill Naraku. He would be able to sense her lies, if he asks, she needed to tell him the truth, there was no reason to lie to him, maybe she could be vague about it, but he would still smell the stench of death on her. She would just hide her aura from the group. That night she was restless to fall asleep but when it finally came, she had nightmares, the worries about the pain and suffering still to come with her illness.
