Final battle at hand

The sky was a red, a blood red with all the lesser demons coming to aid Naraku. The miko’s group had been able to receive training from Sesshomaru’s army and they stood a good chance of winning against the bastard than ever before, however, Naraku had half the jewel in his possession.

Sesshomaru’s army along with the miko’s group had found the perfect area for the battle and they had now trapped the bastard, Sango had gotten slayer masks for the humans in their group. Shippo and Rin were staying safe in Koga’s and Ayame’s den, though Kagome and Inuyasha had to tranquilize them both because they had insisted on fighting against Naraku. Now Sesshomaru’s army was looking out for number one: Kagome.

If she died this jewel would wreak havoc all over again. Currently Kagome was on the back of Ah-Uhn shooting the lesser demons that covered the sky, trying to break even on the enemies in the sky. Ah-Uhn was setting them on fire while Kagome shot her arrows, Sesshomaru’s army wasn’t gaining any ground with getting to Naraku. When Inuyasha killed one of Naraku’s soldiers he found something that looked like a jewel shard, he picked it up,

“Damn that bastard has embedded jewel shards in his soldiers.” Inuyasha grumbled,

“What?” Sesshomaru’s eyes widened. He threw the shard to Sesshomaru,

“That’s why we aren’t getting any closer to the bastard, they are regenerating.” Inuyasha fighting off another demon. Kagome could see that their ground troops weren’t getting anywhere, but before Kagome and Sesshomaru could think of a plan Inuyasha was attacking with his strongest attacks, first with his Adamant Barrage, then his backlash wave. Kagome’s eyes widened, he wasn’t only killing the demons on their side, but he was trying to kill the ones with a shard in them. Sesshomaru swung his own heavenly sword to try to bring his fallen army back as he grabbed Inuyasha’s neck,

“You will not attack again. My army is in the middle of this.” Sesshomaru growled dangerously low. Inuyasha blocked another attack on him,

“What the fuck do we do then?” Inuyasha shouted.

“Heads up!” Kagome shouted from above. Sesshomaru jerked his head up as he finished off a demon and there, she was free falling,

“Damn miko.” Sesshomaru flying up to catch her.

“We do the only thing we can. We move as a whole. Get them in formation around me, I am the only one who can see where these damn jewel shards are.” Kagome explained on their descent.

“You need to leave one opening in the front, they will have no choice but to funnel in. It’s the only way.” Kagome explained as she glanced from one gold eye to the other. He stared at her with his stoney cold emotionless expression, but she could read his eyes, she dared to say she thought she saw fear in them, fear for her, and for the rest of them, if she was a betting woman, it was first time in a long time that his aura actually showed fear. Kagome gave him a smile,

“We will survive, you are Lord Sesshomaru, your name strikes fear into everyone. Let’s do this.” Kagome giving him a quick pep talk. He gave her a twitch of his lips, enough to show a fang, he looked like he was about to have some fun ripping the opposing army’s limbs from their bodies.

“That’s the spirit, lets get this asshole!” Kagome pumped up as she and Sesshomaru’s army got in formation and fanned out around Kagome. Sesshomaru and Inuyasha stood at the beginning of the entrance to catch the demons with the jewels inside them. Gradually Kagome worked her way up to where Sesshomaru and Inuyasha were taking them out, picking up the jewel shards along the way.

Sesshomaru was ripping throats out and hearts when he saw Kagome getting too close to the front line of the entrance, Kagome snatched up some jewel shards,

“I’ve gotta get the shards!” Kagome shouted at him, she was right under his legs when something grabbed her ankle and snatched her away, she could hear Sesshomaru snarl. Normally she would have squealed or grabbed Sesshomaru’s ankle, but she would fight back, she kicked with her other free foot sending reiki out to the one who grabbed her, Sesshomaru had turned to slash the one who had grabbed Kagome, but he noticed the demon was already turning to ash.

Sesshomaru looked down to see Kagome catching the falling sword in her hand as her bow laid on her chest. Another demon was advancing on her quickly, Sesshomaru focused on the demons around him but kept an eye on her to see what she would do, the next thing he knew two of his own men ran the demon through, Kagome’s sword lit with her reiki and stabbed the demon and he turned to ash.

While Sesshomaru had an eye on her he was stabbed from another demon, he let out a roar and grabbed the demon by the throat and squeezed, popping the head right off the shoulders. He turned his full attention back to the fray that was coming at them strong, he let his whip go, he couldn’t afford to pay attention to Kagome. Suddenly he felt her back against his back,

“It’s just me.” Kagome grunting,

“Are you hurt?” Sesshomaru asked,

“No, but I’m getting a bit winded.” Kagome explained, he could feel the exhaustion pouring out of her. Sesshomaru cut his eyes over to Inuyasha, he could feel eyes on him before Sesshomaru said anything.

Sesshomaru cut his eyes toward Kagome pressed to his back fighting with the demons.

“Got it, you got this for a moment?” Inuyasha asked,

“Just hurry up.” Sesshomaru growled out,

“I got it.” Inuyasha turning and killing the demon Kagome had and grabbing her up, she watched as his own army took her place and sighed in relieve but she still fought Inuyasha the whole way. He finally sat her down on a small close by hill,

“Inuyasha, what the hell? I must get back there!?!” Kagome trying to get on Inuyasha’s back. Inuyasha grabbed her arms roughly,

“Shoot your arrows, Sesshomaru wants you to be safe.” Inuyasha explained as he jumped away. Kagome groaned but she knew it was battle, she wasn’t going to throw a tantrum. She took her bow up and strung three arrows, when she found her marks, she let them fly true. Inuyasha and Sesshomaru watched the demons advancing on them fall and turn to ash, Inuyasha snatched up the shards they left behind. Kagome then aimed three into the sky for Sango and Miroku. She kept alternating like that for a while, but her reiki was getting low, almost to a nonexistence. That’s when she saw an attack on Sesshomaru and there was an opening on his left,

“No.” Kagome gasped as she threw her hand out, Sesshomaru heard her gasp, suddenly she was there by Sesshomaru’s side and throwing away the attacker with a spark of reiki. Sesshomaru saw her wavering on her own legs, he could sense her reiki was almost done for.

“To hell with this!” Kagome grumbled, Sesshomaru and Inuyasha were close enough that when Kagome turned and started walking in between them she threw up a barrier to protect them but before the barrier could go up Sesshomaru ran to block Kagome’s path, luckily, he made it just in time to take a tentacle to the gut. He let out a loud grunt and hunched over.

“Lord Sesshomaru! No, not today and certainly not by this bastard!” Kagome grabbing the tentacle and purifying it with her simple touch, she still held her sword, it was now glowing with her reiki, Inuyasha and the army were in formation around Kagome and Sesshomaru, she got him to sit down, the only sign of what she was going to do next was just a subtle look for a split second. She walked away from him, he could feel her reserved reiki growing and expanding. Kagome let go of her sword and it hovered in the air, glowing pink with reiki.

“No, damn it miko! You cannot leave it unfinished! I will not let you leave me this way!” Sesshomaru roared out, but she was too far gone, her eyes turned solid pink, her whole body was power, as if her power were her beast side if she were a demoness.

“I told you I would give this bastard everything, as a last resort.” Kagome’s voice having grown more powerful as if there were three Kagome’s there now.

Flashback

It was three days before the final battle and Kagome and their pack had been under Sesshomaru’s roof for three months still training and strategizing for different number of outcomes. It was almost dusk, and Kagome was taking a walk along Sesshomaru’s courtyard, after all it was her favorite area, it wouldn’t be much longer until dinner was ready. Kagome was stopping to take in a beautiful purple flower that had not bloomed yet,

“Strange, middle of winter and it is as if it would bloom any day now.” Kagome mumbled.

“It is this house’s flower. It is called a moon flower, it will only open when the moon’s light hits it.” a deep and unwavering baritone voice came from behind her, her lips turned into a soft smile,

“It sounds beautiful and rare.” Kagome standing and turning toward the voice.

“Perhaps you would care to join this one on this night to watch the pedals fall open and reveal what it holds inside.” Sesshomaru suggested.

“Is that an invitation?” Kagome asked, she had noticed Sesshomaru had acted weird lately, sometimes avoiding her but sometimes he seemed like he was hanging onto every training session she had with his general. Now he was inviting her to watch the flower open later tonight.

“I would love to. Just promised me we wont talk anymore about battle plans.” Kagome sighing.

“I would like to commend you on your training, you have done well over these past months.” Sesshomaru giving her a slight nod,

“Seems like a compliment coming from the killing perfection himself.” Kagome joking around.

“Of the highest order.” Sesshomaru’s lips twitched into a hint of a smile, Kagome’s eyes widened, he let out a chuckle,

“It is refreshing to see this side of you.” Kagome explained,

“You are the only one I do so with.” Sesshomaru stated, Kagome nodded she had become pretty damn good at reading his eyes, now they held mirth and laughter.

“Perhaps we shall speak of the lands you are from then if you wish from a break of battle plans.” Sesshomaru suggested,

“Huh?” Kagome confused as she walked with him.

“Your bag, your mannerisms, your odd sense of dress. You are not even of this time, are you?” Sesshomaru stated than really questioning her.

“Hm, I imagine it is alright to tell you. Inuyasha has seen it firsthand. I am from the future, five hundred years to be exact.” Kagome explained.

“Hn.” Sesshomaru nodded slightly,

“So, were those the only clues you had?” Kagome asked,

“The strange things you brought Rin, the wax that produced different colors when writing.” Sesshomaru explained.

“Oh, crayons.” Kagome smiling,

“Hm, yes, Rin enjoyed those.” Sesshomaru said as they walked.

“Are you not interested in the future?” Kagome asked,

“Curious perhaps, though the way I hear you speak of this era, I believe you and I both enjoy this era more than your own. Often times I smelt an obnoxious scent on your clothing when I was near the bone eater’s well. Am I not correct little miko?” Sesshomaru asked.

“I must admit, this era does have a lot of things going for it, though humans die from common colds so much here.” Kagome said, he carefully took her arm and looped it through his own. Kagome’s heart sped up from the simple gesture,

~Surely he could not have come to care for me in such a way. Its only been a few months that we have stayed here.~ Kagome thought as she gave him a soft smile and took the liberty of hugging his arm. He said nothing of her actions,

“This one prefers to be able to travel freely in this era and have to answer to no one. Could I still do as such in your time?” Sesshomaru asked. Kagome looked up at him, he was all about simple, after all simple was a clean way of living, even if he had to fight to keep everything he cherished safe. She had seen the scars on his body from the battles when she caught him training by himself, but to her those scars were beautiful, those were scars he earned for keeping everything that he had protected. He smelt her arousal rise, his lips twitched into a smirk.

“Hm, yeah, the air is fresher here and you can see the stars as well. We have laws in my time. You can’t just kill someone there, if you do its called murder and you are thrown in jail.” Kagome explained.

“There are laws here as well, though there are much stricter laws then your era. Spying is punished by death, and it is carried out.” Sesshomaru explained.

“As it should be, though these are times where spying could turn deadly.” Kagome explained,

“What of this battle? Are you mentally prepared for it? Are you going to be able to take life?” Sesshomaru asked.

“Come on Lord Sesshomaru, we have constantly talked about battle and trained for it as well. We owe ourselves a break, since you asked though, I am willing to give everything I got to end this bastard for good. I mean it Sesshomaru-sama if need be, I will let my powers consume me entirely for the sake of these lands finding peace.” Kagome stated, leaving no room for argument over it or a discussion.

“In order to reach that kind of outcome, you would have to survive to wish the jewel away. A selfless wish is all it takes.” Sesshomaru stated.

“I suppose I will have to do just that then. Though should you need to you have your sword to bring me back.” Kagome stated, his arm wrapped with hers trapped her arm,

“Miko, do not make me use it on you. The sword works only once, do not get yourself killed, that is an order!” Sesshomaru turning to her to grip both of her arms tightly. Kagome smirked as she looked at his hands holding her arms, she thought she could now hear the desperation in his tone.

“You sound as if you worry for me, though I guess its only for me to survive to wish the jewel away, hm?” Kagome glancing up in his eyes, she couldn’t read this look in his eyes, was this lovingly or was it fear, fear for her life being took.

“You have a duty Kagome.” Sesshomaru growled out.

“Or course, the jewel.” Kagome’s smile fading.

“I smell dinner.” Kagome commented, he loosened his hold on her, and she turned and started walking away. Sesshomaru’s eyes closed, had he fallen under her spell like everyone else seemed to have. Before she could walk away too far his hand shot out and grabbed her wrist, before Kagome knew it he pulled her tight against his chest that held no armor for once, and she was swept up and away to his chambers where he had sealed them inside with a barrier.

“Sesshomaru? What are you…” Kagome being interrupted, he held her arms as he roughly kissed her lips. At first Kagome was stunned, it took a few minutes for her to snap out of it, but by then Sesshomaru had pulled away. She had never seen him so out of character like this, like he was losing a fighting battle with his beast, almost like he had been at war with his beast this whole time she had been under his roof.

Kagome touched her lips, they had tingled and shot those tingles all throughout her whole body, she wanted to feel more, she was going to give him time to gather his thoughts, but she couldn’t wait that long, and ran to him throwing her hands to his cheeks as she stood on her tippy toes and kissed him back roughly. In turn it spurred him into action as he half growled and purred, he roughly kissed her back as well as he started to paw at her ties on her kimono, she in turn tried to find his ties, her small hands working as fast as they could. Finally, he jerked away,

“Wait… I must speak with you.” Sesshomaru demanded, her arousal was making him go crossed eyed with the scent of it. He reigned in his control, he forced himself to sit her on the end of his bed as he stood before her.

“You are the closest female this one could ever want as a mate.” Sesshomaru spoke slow and clear concise words, as if it was the hardest sentence he could ever say in his entire life.

“Wait…what? I mean there are plenty of beautiful and strong demonesses falling at your feet, I’m just human. What could I possible offer you?” Kagome having to catch her breath from their pawing one another. His eyes bled into red,

“Those demonesses are not worthy. Your heart is what you can offer, your unwavering loyalty. Those you care for have come to know your love and it is brighter than any star in the heavens. Shall I go on with the list?” Sesshomaru’s beast asked. Kagome’s eyes widened, she had realized that he had seen her as herself and her qualities and she had definitely grown attached to the stone-cold demon lord that everyone thought he was over the several months they were there.

She had already known for the past year that Inuyasha wasn’t the one for her and she had come to terms with it. Though she had felt something for the lord before they can under his roof, she didn’t know what it was, but she had grown curious about it and about him just as he had her. In her time at his home, she had watched and listened to the cold stone lord and then she saw it in his eyes. Emotions. She had finally seen through the stone walls he protected his person with, she had learned to read his eyes instead of his body language, he was a protector after all, and he schooled his body language and his emotions.

He cared, even if he had odd ways of showing it but these days, it was best to show it behind locked and private chambers. He protected the people in his kingdom and would do so at all costs. Kagome’s eyes glittered as she jumped up again to rush to him and kiss him, he pulled her off him,

“I need you to listen right now. After this battle is over, I wish for you to become my mate.” Sesshomaru explained,

“But what about the pups, what if they are hanyou?” Kagome asked as she stood against his chest.

“They would be ours, they would be loved and deeply cherished because they came from both of us.” Sesshomaru stated,

“Yes, yes, I will be your mate. I feel like I need to tell you this before my chest explodes and if we don’t ever have the chance again. I love you Sesshomaru. I think I have loved you for a while now.” Kagome staring into his eyes.

“What?” Sesshomaru catching his breath, she giggled, she started dancing around with his arm, almost as if she were possessed by a child spirit, he stood like a statue.

“I never have felt anything like it, not with Inuyasha, not with anyone. I want to shout it all over the kingdom. I love you, Lord Sesshomaru.” Kagome sang out. He could see this was so much more different than she ever had for Inuyasha, her excitement spurred his own as he grabbed her waist and pulled her to him possessively. His eyes bled red,

“Mine.” Sesshomaru and his beast growled out together,

“Only yours forever.” Kagome whispered as their lips crashed upon one another. As they were pawing at one another Sesshomaru walked her back toward the platform of his bed,

“We cannot mark you until after the battle. You are bound by your duty to finish the jewel. After the battle, in celebration perhaps we should mate right there on the battlefield. This one will however give you a night of enjoyment as a vow to keep our promise to mate with you.” Sesshomaru and his beast spoke in unison, Kagome blushed,

“I have never laid with anyone before.” Kagome whispered.

“Sesshomaru, if I were to…” Kagome being interrupted,

“No, you will not doubt yourself now, you will make it through this battle, and you will become my mate.” Sesshomaru growled and snarled.

“We have to talk about this.” Kagome explained,

“Not now.” Sesshomaru hugging her tighter against him.

Her sword flew through the air and pinned one of Naraku’s tentacles into the rock behind him. Sesshomaru watched as her body started to glow pink as if she were the jewel herself. The jewel shards recognized their protector and ripped themselves free from the demons they were embedded in and flew to Kagome’s open palm, as if they were answering their master’s call.

Sesshomaru stabbed his heavenly sword into the ground as Inuyasha got to the side of him and stabbed Tessaiga into the ground, both activating a wall barrier for when she would let go of her reiki, they found out it would bounce off their swords and back toward the enemy. Suddenly Kagome let it loose just as Naraku’s tentacles were flying toward her. Sesshomaru couldn’t look away he needed to know she had survived, and she had killed that bastard. When the blast of pink died down Kagome was swaying, Sesshomaru’s ears were bleeding from the loud crash of wave of her reiki. He perked up even with the tentacle hole slowly healing.

“Sessho…maru.” Kagome whispered as she started to fall,

“Kagome.” Sesshomaru stumbling to get to her, he barely caught her before she fell. He shook with fear as her blood coated him, it was too much for him and it sparked his beast into overdrive, he could feel Naraku still alive behind them.

“Sesshomaru, no don’t lose your senses.” Kagome coughing up her own blood as she lay dying in his arms.

“He. Killed. Mate. Must. Seek. Payment. Life. For. Life.” Sesshomaru shook all over, he was trying to reign in his beast until he could lay her down. He laid her down, but he was too far gone to hear her crying out for him. He shook as he took his outerwear off, laying it over Kagome, she could hear his joints and bones cracking and reshaping into the dog demon that he was. With his huge paws now, he crushed the demon army that used to have jewel shards in them.

His large maw dripping poison everywhere on the ground. Somehow when he stalked up to Naraku he found that the half demon was gone and in his place was Onigumo, the original bandit that he was. Onigumo managed to get a chuckle out,

“How the west has fallen. Your poor little miko wasn’t powerful enough to kill me, now you shall lose your sanity because she has died and left you.” Onigumo croaked out.

“We were not mated yet, she was not this one’s mate, Kagome Higurashi was our soulmate.” Sesshomaru’s beast thundered out. Inuyasha’s eyes widened, Sango and Miroku landed by Inuyasha,

“What does that mean?” Miroku asked. Sango looked at the hugged dog demon with pity in her eyes, a tear rolled down her cheek,

“Lord Sesshomaru will die shortly because their souls were bound to one another. Soulmates form a stronger bond than just mates, when her soul dies his soul will cry out for hers until it fades into nothing.” Sango silently crying, not only for her friend who had become her sister but for Sesshomaru. He wasn’t easy to get to know but they had all become close to the cold lord, the western army knelt behind the beast, most if not all the army had liked Kagome, she kind of made it hard not to like her.

The army watched as two drops from Sesshomaru’s maw dropped onto Onigumo, and considering he had no jewel shards in his body and he was now his human self the acid would slowly eat away at his human flesh, Sesshomaru would never let him die quickly. The beast dog walked toward Kagome’s lifeless body, as he stalked toward her, he could tell she was already gone, her friends parted away to let Sesshomaru near. His heavenly sword felt so heavy in his hand, he was almost dragging it by his side, because it wasn’t responding to her, it wasn’t humming in anticipation to cut the trolls of the underworld down.

He took it up and slashed down, nothing happened, and she wasn’t coming back. Kagome’s hand fell open with an almost complete jewel, just lacking Koga’s pieces. Sesshomaru fell to his knees, he brought her body to his chest and shook. He shook so hard that Sango and Miroku could visibly see it, they could swear they saw tears dropping onto Kagome’s face as Sesshomaru’s forehead touched hers. He gently laid her down and kissed her cold lips,

“I am coming my soulmate, wait for me.” Sesshomaru’s claws resting by her head, he pressed onto the rock and broke his claws.

“B-Burn her body along side of my own… spread us over the western lands.” Sesshomaru fighting to hold control of himself.

“Leave us now.” Sesshomaru ordered with his eyes closed,

“Wh…” Inuyasha being interrupted,

“I SAID LEAVE!” Sesshomaru roared as his eyes popped open to reveal blood red eyes and his maw jutting out of his humanoid face. They all started backing away, not turning their backs on him, he was losing himself to insanity because he had lost his soulmate, he would see them all as prey. Inuyasha like a fool decided to stay, someone would have to put the rabid beast down. Meanwhile while Sesshomaru was getting revenge on Onigumo all Kagome had seen in her dying moment was a strange warrior. She was dressed in even more skimpier clothing than her own schoolgirl uniform.

“Come with me Kagome. You were hand picked to join us as a warrior, and we want you to train with us in Valhalla.” the warrior having her hand out.

“What about my friends, what about Sesshomaru…we are soulmates, I won’t leave him behind, we were supposed to mate. I can’t go just yet.” Kagome cried, the warrior stood and watched with Kagome as the beast was losing his mind.

“Come, he will not be pleased with you watching his last moments, he will be along shortly.” the warrior explained with her hand still out for Kagome to take. Kagome slowly put her hand into hers and they walked away into the dense fog,

“Kagome…no, come back Kags!” Inuyasha cried out, it was the last thing she heard.

Meanwhile Sesshomaru was completely out of control, blaming everyone in sight for Kagome’s death. In his beast form there was no way to stop him, he just had to either tire himself out or die. His army was filled with some soldiers that had lost a mate, but no one could tell what kind of pain Sesshomaru was in for losing his soulmate.

The army were all for putting Sesshomaru down, but they didn’t want to die in the process, it was a loss his army would never get over. It was inhumane to let him suffer what little time he had left on this earth. All Sesshomaru remembered was looking into Kagome’s brilliant blue eyes and telling her comforting words that he was going to be joining her. A female warrior came to him to collect him.

“Your soulmate waits for you in Valhalla. She waits for the both of you.” the warrior welcoming Inuyasha as well, Sesshomaru blinked as he stared at Inuyasha and back at the scene behind him. He saw himself let out a roar of a howl that vibrated the ground he stood on, he had no doubt that all of Asia felt and heard his pain.

It felt like his whole being was getting crushed so bad that he would not survive it. He watched as Inuyasha took that moment in time along with the strongest of his army put him down, he wasn’t long for the world since Naraku had embedded miasma into him when his tentacle pierced through his gut. Inuyasha was smashed into the rock face hill and killed in the process, but his last act was hitting Sesshomaru with his adamant barrage which took him down.

“Come along, Kagome waits for you both.” the warrior leading the way into the fog, they looked at one another and gave a nod and followed.
