Thirty Ways To Say Goodbye by missysessy

The drive from the airport to his apartment block only took forty-five minutes but it felt like an eternity had passed.
Stopping two blocks before reaching his apartment building, his hands holding the steering wheel started to shake. He hung his head low, his forehead touching the steering as drop after drop tears fell from his eyes.
He finally did it today; he let his friend fall into the arms of her lover. He helped them to leave the country forever.
“Thank you Sesshomaru, I will miss you.” He remembered her mouth forming those exact words. Would she really miss him? Probably not as much as he would miss her though.
Her family did not want her to marry a man of lower class; they wanted her to get married into a wealthy family equal to them; with a man of higher social standard, a man just like himself.
They were friends from school; he was in middle school when she transferred into Shikon High. Only one glance at her and he knew, he knew that he fell hard for her. That he could never have eyes for anyone else anymore. He was elated when six month ago their parents announced their engagement; that what a perfect match they would make.
But two days before their wedding she finally broke down before him, told him that how much she loved her Inuyasha. Saying that how she could not live without him, that she would rather die than be apart from him. And how could he have lived knowing that? So he decided that rather than being unhappy with him; he wanted her to be happy even without him.
So he did it today, he let his love fall into the arms of another man. He arranged for them to flee from Japan to New York, used his family connections to get Inuyasha a job there and a house for them to live in.
Taking a few shaky breaths in; he started to drive again. Tomorrow he would officially call the wedding off and move out of Japan himself. Away from everything that reminded him of her, away from those once joyful memories, now painful reminders.
But one thing is for sure, he could never forget her all of his life; his Kagome.
