The night was quiet. It was warm, but with a nice breeze now and then.

They were sitting under a tree, watching the sunset. Him with his back to the tree and with her between his legs. Watching the sunset together while he was running his fingers slowly through her hair. Finally some time alone. They had been able to sneak away from the others.

They've been through so much lately. First the evil hanyous demise, Kagome healing his arm,

the jewel completed, the well closing. Kikyo was alive now because of Kagomes wish, and Inuyasha could finally be with the one he loved.

Their new-found love was another thing. It took a long time before Sesshoumaru decided it was ok to love a human. But up to this day he wouldn't mate her. He had no wish to become his father, even if he loved a human. He could be with her anyway. No one needed to know. Not even her pack knew.

But today she had asked him the same question as Rin had. When she died, would he always remember her? He didn't know how to answer. He knew he could extend her life if he wasn't so stubborn. But she didn't. It would only hurt her to know that he could but would not extend her life, so he didn't tell her.

He moved his gaze from the darkening sky down to the half – asleep miko in his arms. Could he really watch her wither away and die in a few years? And remember all they had? This good feeling, this calm he got whenever he was in her presence? The desire she made him feel? Especially when knowing he could have had her with him for the rest of his life? Could he?

He moved to place a soft kiss at the top of her head. No, he could not.

Before this night was over he would mate her. Before the sun got up she would be Rins new mom and Lady of the west. His Mate. And everyone would know of his love for her.

And at that thought he closed his eyes and smiled.
