Chapter 1

Red Light Girl

Chapter One

--

Their dancing became routine. What had once been the highlight of his night, had become tiresome to his eyes. They had retained their grace, yet it was he who was one to complain.

Their smiles had started to wane. He was a favorite to them, and he was always treated with the utmost courtesy when he visited. They often fought over who was going to be his entertainment for the night, and had even begun to divide their time equally to him, ignoring other potential customers for his favor.

Their tea began to taste bitter. The flavor it contained was the same potency, and the tea leaves remained the same. Yet he found himself wanting something exotic. Something he had never had before.

Their music hurt his ears. One could only listen to the sounds of the koto for a certain period, before wanting to hear a different song repeated each night to him. They played it well; he would not doubt their memorization skills. Yet, something different would be much more pleasing to him.

He frowned, looking into his empty sake cup. The girl before him poured it quickly enough, but he found her apologies tiresome. He looked around, staring at the same shoji screen that he had entered. With a sigh, he closed his eyes, waiting for his cup to be filled yet again.

The Red Light District had begun to finally bore him.

He wanted something diverse. His eyes narrowed to the girl who poured his cup of sake, her smile showing her blackened teeth. He frowned, taking the cup and tossing the liquid back in one fluid motion. The girl praised him for his tolerance, doting on him entirely. He silently shooed her away, closing his eyes as he ignored her preening.

They were all the same. They were nothing, and yet, they were all that were here.

It was the sound of a sudden crash that had intrigued him. He found himself opening his eyes once more, to see a human girl running through the entertainment room, her kimono in complete disarray.

“Kagome-chan, wait! Your obi!” Chise called, holding a bright blue piece of cloth.

Sesshomaru watched the girl run from the raccoon dog. His gaze fixed on her face, studying her features.

She appeared normal, like every other human he had seen. Yet when she turned, he had seen the defiance in her eyes.

“I’m not some piece of meat to sell! You can tell that to Fujihara!” Kagome yelled, pushing her way through the other patrons of the house. When she tripped over a body, however, she shrieked, falling flat on her face.

“Oh dear, Lord Sesshomaru!” Chise gasped, rushing to his aid. He made no move to remove the human who had half fallen into his lap, staring at her with a raised brow.

The girl now sitting across his lap mumbled something incoherently, before sitting upright, her eyes locking with his.

“Please excuse me.” She replied, mockingly, bowing her head as she moved to stand. The girl that had been pouring Sesshomaru’s sake took the fan from her pocket, raising it high above her head as if to attack Kagome.

“How dare you lay yourself so seductively against my patron!” She lowered her hand quickly, only to have it caught mid-strike.

“I do believe the lady apologized.” Sesshomaru’s voice was low as he spoke. His gaze, still locked with Kagome’s, turned curious as she parted her lips in surprise.

“Lord Sesshomaru!” Chise approached them, falling to her knees as she bowed, pressing her head to the wooden floor. “Please, forgive this foolish girl. I have not yet trained her properly.”

“Trained her?” He asked, releasing the wrist of the Tanuki girl who had attempted to hit the human. “As in, she is to be working here?”

“I am as confused as you are, Lord Sesshomaru.” Chise frowned. Sesshomaru looked to the girl who was still awkwardly sitting in his lip, a wicked grin forming his lips.

“Is that so?” He took her hand in his, bringing it to his lips. Looking downward, lashes fluttering against his cheeks, his eyes pierced through hers. “Then I shall be your first patron.”
