As soon as the refugees arrived, the guards grabbed her arms and led her away. The headman and other villagers protested, of course.
"She saved us from the invaders!"
"She healed my burns!"
"She kept my husband from bleeding to death!"
"She is a holy miko!"
But because of her strange scent and clothing - a little too clean and too fine for a human - the guards ignored them and led her away.
"Remain calm. I will speak with Lord Sesshomaru when he arrives."
And she went quietly, expecting that she would have a chance to speak in her defense at a later time, for she knew the Lord to be reasonable.

After the battles were over and the invaders pushed back over their own borders, their Lord came. He arrived in the majesty of his true form. The refugees were terrified, but the soldiers who remained in the outpost cheered.

"How fared the outpost, Commander?"
"As you could see when you arrived, we have sustained some damage to the outer walls, but they never gained them, my Lord."
"I see you have taken in some humans."
"Yes, my Lord. They arrived just before the fighting began here. Now that it is all over, we will send them back to their village."
The breeze picked up and blew into the outpost Commander's office from the rear courtyard. The sound of rustling leaves broke the sudden silence in the office. The Commander startled when he looked up and noticed Lord Sesshomaru's eyes beginning to turn red...
"My Lord-?"
"Has anything else of note occurred?"
His voice held more strain and emotion than the Commander had ever heard in it before.
"When the fighting came too close and it appeared the invaders would gain the walls, we executed a prisoner, my Lord. A s-"
"Who?!"
"A s-s-spy, m-my Lor-r-d. S-some m-m-miko."

The soldiers in the bailey were suddenly tense and terrified. The scent of their Commander's blood was on the wind.
