What the Kami Throw

A/N: Inspried by the January Quote Prompt: "Only those who wander find new paths."

Sesshomaru had never wanted what was placed on him.  He was given a path in life: the path to become a lawyer and take over his father’s business.  But, that wasn’t what he was faced with anymore.  New paths opened for him, though, not by his own choice.  Now, as he got ready for his first day of law school, he knew what he needed to do. 

His mother had often said that the kami threw things your way for a reason.  He supposed that this was just one of those things they had planned for him. 

“Nii-sama?”  Rin asked poking her head in.  “Are you ready?”  Sesshomaru nodded slipping his blazer on and moving to follow Rin out the door.  They had already eaten breakfast and were now on their way to their respective schools. 

“You aren’t going with Inuyasha?”  He asked as they made their way to the door where only two pairs of shoes remained. 

“No.  Souta-kun said he’d walk me.  Inuyasha has to leave early nowadays.  By the way, Kagome-nee is waiting for you.” 

“The January girl?” He asked, wincing when he realized he had inadvertently let Rin know what he called her in his thoughts. 

His sister giggled standing up with her shoes ready to go and bag on her shoulders.  “January girl?  Really nii-sama?”  She rolled her eyes.  “But yes, she’s waiting for you.  Higurashi-san doesn’t like the idea of her going on the trains herself and since you both are going to Toyo she thought you could go together.” 

“Hmm.”  Sesshomaru stood as well, opening the door and walking out.  This was just another thing that the kami had placed in his life wasn’t it?
