She sobbed as she thrown into the streets, holding her belly as blood pooled from her womanhood. She screamed, her tears hot against the flesh of her cheeks. Her vision was blurred, the pain consuming her body as she felt her life endangered.

The soft flesh of a woman’s hands were on her face, lifting her from the ground with gentle grace. Dazed, she thought it to be the ghost of an angel, here to take her from the Earth and allow her into the graces of the afterworld.

“Please, I must live… my baby…” she whispered, her lips quivering. A searing pain shot through to her knees as she doubled in agony, holding her stomach tightly.

“Careful, child! Ye are still in labor,” the woman spoke softly, holding her as she called for another to come and help her. Midoriko could not see, her vision being blackened as she slipped in and out of consciousness. The figures of two, what she could only assume were men, came into her view, and suddenly, she was being lifted. “Take her to my home, please.” The other woman’s voice was hushed, but she could sense the urgency in it.

“My baby…” Midoriko cried, thinking of the child she lost. The pain engulfed her once again and she howled, sobs wracking her body.

“It can be saved, child!”

She was carried into a small house, placed gently on the floor as the two men turned, giving her privacy.

“Get the healers, and the Master.” The woman spoke, taking a bucket and handing it to one of the men. “I need hot water in this, quickly!”

Midoriko felt her life fading, staring at the ceiling with half lidded eyes. As she raised her hands high, she smiled.

“I’ll be with you soon, my baby.”
