Your story is really interesting and engaging, it shows a lot of creativity and it flows very well. Regarding the reviewer who didn't like your writing, I feel that some of the best writers of fanfic started out not being so perfect, and having some real weaknesses. The more they wrote, and matured as authors, the better their work got, until they went from being just ok to being top writers. Stick with it, you're making a great start, and I'm enjoying reading this very much. So you've got at least one fan!

In the anime, Kagome's mom acts pretty calm about some fairly alarming things, like a strange hanyou trying to snatch her daughter while they are eating dinner, but it seems she handled this a little TOO calmly, and moving to America has to be a pretty major undertaking, especially since her family has been taking care of the shrine for so many generations. Maybe later in the story you could add a part that would explain this.
