"Kagome, stop!" His deep voice boomed over the screams of agony and whimpers of death. Sesshōmaru leapt over piles of dead mortals, sword clashing with Naraku's bloodied scythe. His laughter echoed through the desolation.
Kagome crawled on hands and knees, vision blurred by poisons that wafted in the air. She felt around as she struggled to see, before planting a hand in a thick warm liquid. The crimson pool beneath her reached her knees. She squinted. Elegant silver strands splayed across the blood, and as she scooped up handfuls of the silken hair she broke into screams. It wasn't until her vision cleared between gusts of miasma that she saw beautiful black mixed with the silver.
Inuyasha lay, dead eyes wide open, beside the woman he loved most in the world; Kikyo. Kagome wrapped her arms around the man she still carried a special love for, pulling his torso into her lap. She pulled him close, resting her forehead on his, and gently brushing her hand over his face to close his lifeless golden eyes. She cried. She wept tears she'd never dreamed of, naive enough to believe he'd never die at the hands of the man who destroyed his love long ago.
Sesshōmaru snarled viciously, thrusting his sword against the weight of the demon before him. In a jump that was more of a teleport, he snatched Kagome up in his arms and darted into the forest. She protested, kicking and screaming, but he'd be damned if the woman he loved died at the hands of Naraku.
"I can't leave him!" She screamed.
"I can't lose you!" Sesshōmaru growled. There was only one way to save her. He had to send her back.
And destroy the well.
