Chapter one
The night was dark and damp, filled with the stench of cold wet concrete and moist grass. This part of town was gated off and closed for most civilians except for a select few doctors, guards, and certain members of the government. The gate seemed inconspicuous to most, why wouldn't it? It wasn't the first random gate on the military base. The young boy picked up a stick and began poking the gate. What was so different about this gate that drew his immediate attention like this? Nothing at his tender age of 8 did anymore. He was often bored and lonely, his class only being slightly more bearable than being home and thus this walk ensued.
His large knowing eyes were seeing something for the first time that was different from the usual white and milky cloudiness. This immense blue and pink person was back there. He frowned. Information about this girl, as he realized her to be, wasn't coming to his mind like it did most people. He poked the gate again, continuously trying to understand and know the girl through her aura. Everyone had one and he could see them easily. It's how he interacted with the world. A bead of sweat rolled down from his temple and he noticed his arm shaking... with a frustrated stomp he threw his sick on the ground next to him, being careful to keep his tantrum quiet.
Why couldn't he reach the girl, it was like she was far away. The child turned around slowly passing his milky blue eyes over his surroundings. What he knew to be a quiet and quaint neighborhood of government built homes lay there. He completed his circle and came back face with the gate. There was a small clearing in the vegetation where his stick had hit the gate when walking up. The fact that this spot of the fence was so clear was baffling but this was also the first time he had noticed her presence as well. There was no way his finding her was a coincidence. I mean no one was allowed back there. And now for the first time, he senses this aura, the biggest he'd ever felt, of someone much younger than the adults back there as well. He realized that a much smaller aura had blinked into his awareness near hers. Assuming this man was of a similar size to all the auras he was used to then they were really back there at least a days hike for him.
He smiled as he continued back down the path towards home. It sounded like an interesting trip though and tonight was only Friday.
