Summer Rain

The first rain fell on us that night, the soothing sound wafting into my bedroom as we lay next to each other.

“So… does this count as a date?”

“Only if you wish it to be,” I replied quietly, intently listening to the last drops crush against the ground outside.

She poked me on my side, and I opened an eye to look at her.

“Are you always so lenient?”

Closing my eye, I replied, “No.”

“Don’t you have questions for me?”

I breathed in deeply, her scent mixed with that of the gone rain filling my lungs and thoughts.
