These days were different, but amazing in more ways than kagome could even count. After the defeat of Naraku and her return to her own time, she never expected to see anyone from her past adventures. Until one day when he showed up. She was nineteen, finished with high school and taking the year to help around the shrine. She was still very much undecided to go to college.
It was a mild summer day, she had spent the better part of the afternoon attending to the shrine when he came around. She did not recognize him at first, for he was buried deep beneath his disguise. In fact the minute she spotted him she causally struck up conversation thinking him to be just a visitor, or perhaps someone lost in need of directions.
“Hello, can I help you?” Her voice was soft but filled with the overabundance of cheer. The visitor cast a crooked smile in her directions, it was playful but yet still dangerous. It sent a chill up her spine, but not of fear, which surprised her. He was a beautiful man she mentally noted. Tall, intelligent eyes, hair black as night and worn cut in a professional manner. He was dressed in khaki pants and a white button-up. Something about his face did draw the sense of resemblance.
“No, I have found what I was looking for.” His voice was even and confident. He stepped closer to her until just a couple inches was all the space between them. Kagome blushed under the magnetic state of the beautiful man.
“I’m sorry, what were you looking for?” Kagomes words fumbled out of her mouth, her hands played with the ends of her hair attempting you straighten out their natural waves.
“You.” was all he replied. Kagome drew in a deep breath, she had to admit she was enchanted by this man, so mysterious and yet the pull of familiarity was strong within her. An image of long flowing silver hair rushed through her mind.
“Who are you?”
He grinned wickedly, leaning closer to her until his lips brushed against her ear.
“Someone from your past who has waited many centuries to see you again.” His voice was low whispering softly into her ear.
“I’m sorry, what?” Kagome had no idea what to say, her hopes elated, her heart raced. There were only a few people from her past that would live many centuries, but she had believed none of them had made it to the future as she had not sensed a demon since crossing back to her time. There was only one demon she knew to be all tall as he, but when she last saw him he was only warm hearted to his young ward, and never would cast a second glance to her. Not that at the time she would care, for she was still chasing a certain hot tempered dog eared hanyou.
He straightened back up still carrying the mysterious crooked smile. She looked at the details of his face. Studying them to the face in her memories.
“It can’t be...” Kagome hands flew to cover her mouth, afraid to let the name slip past her lips.
“Sesshomaru...” his name muffled behind her hands as it carried out as a whisper on the wind.
“Yes.”
her hands fell back to her sides. She couldn’t believe it. Sesshomaru of all people was standing in front of her, looking as human as any real human, and to top it all off, he was there to see her of all people.
“But wait, I am confused. I was certain you could care less that I even breathed. I mean I left the past years ago, and I’m pretty sure you didn’t care. So why?” She was deeply confused but she did not want to offend him. Kagome was flattered that he sought her but it was all so confusing.
“You are right, but that was not the last time you saw me.” His eyes gave off a mischievous look as he spoke. The way he spoke and acted around her was as if she was an old friend.
“The last time I saw you?” The loops of confusion were just piling on.
“You return to the past when you're twenty, of course the time you return to is 100 years further from when you first arrived in the past.” He said it so matter-of-factly, as though it should come as no surprise.
“I’m not twenty for another couple of months, and I have felt no pull of magic from the well.” Kagome watched as Sesshomaru’s eyes lit up with internal laughter at her reply.
“You will.”
“Are...are you the only one who has made it this era?” Kagome had trepidations on this question. She was excited to know who else was still alive but fearful to hear the names of those who had not.
“There are a few. Your kit is one of those few.” Sesshomaru seemed hesitant to speak on this subject as well. ‘Could the answer be as bad as I fear?’ Kagome thought to herself
“Where is he? what of...Inuyasha, or Koga?”
“The kit lives in America with his mate, The wolf prince, last I heard lived in America as well, in one of its northern states. He stays to the wild.”
“And Inuyasha?” Kagome could already feel the tears spring to her eyes.
“He rests peacefully next to his mother.” Sesshomaru spoke quietly, not even able to
make eye contact with the now crying miko. Inwardly he was not fond of the idea of Kagome crying tears for his brother, but he could not blame her. She did not know yet, the feelings they would share. Not yet. He never truly intended to seek her out in the present either, but the closer the date of her traveling back through the well again the more he could not resist the urge to see her.
“How?”
“Mortally wounded in battle.” This time when Sesshomaru spoke, the cold undertone and masked emotions finally broke through, that was the Sesshomaru she remember.
“Did you...?”
“No.” He wanted to reach out to her, comfort her, wipe away the tears of sorrow that fell from her blue eyes, but how would she respond. She only knew the one side of him. The uncaring side, She only knew of the Sesshomaru that had no qualms about ending her life.
“Perhaps we should take this conversation inside, I’m sure you have many questions, and answering them all could take some time.”
