A/N: Uh oh another story. This is my first time writing something truly dark and just plain depressing, I guess I was in the mood of dark thoughts or something. There will be several dark themes throughout this entire story and it will be a long one! However updates will be sporadic since I'll be trying to add long chapters to capture and retain your interest. So enjoy reading!
Prologue
She ran.
Panting, she could hear her own heartbeat in her ears. The loud thumping of the organ pumping feverishly due to adrenaline and fear, a fear that shackled her body in a trance. She leapt over a root, shrinking beneath quivering branches and reached a field. She faltered; there was no type of protection within the meadow, no trees to hinder her predator. Just an austere meadow with tall grass stalks, the deer across escaped the second she arrived. Catching her breath, she evaluated her choices, but it was futile, he was going to capture her anyway. Should she follow the outline of the forest, her chances of stalling the inevitable was considerable but if she crossed the field, he would pounce her in a second spared; however the distance to reach for safety was significantly less. Like she thought before, it was futile. Mind made up, she swiftly crossed the field, aware of the rustle of the grass against the mangled hakama and the sound of her footwear hammering against the soil.
A roar caused her to choke out a sob; he was close, terribly close. The excruciating pain was forgotten in her urgency, the bandana that covered her hair fluttered with the breeze. The tears blurred her vision. She was sure everything went according to plan; the talisman was supposed to cover her scent until she reached civilization far from the palace. How did he find out? Maybe she didn’t cover her tracks well enough, or maybe someone betrayed her. There’s only a few that knew of her plan. It was probably that damn handmaid, why did she trust her?
The deep growls rumbled behind her, an undeniable laughter bubbling from the demon.
She was close; she could see the outline of the forest just within her grasp, her hope intensifying with each step as she willed her body to increase in speed. She could feel the strain buckling her legs, her body wanting to collapse in exhaustion. Almost there. She almost sighed with relief, once she reached the tips of the woods; it won’t be long before she reach the large town at the other end of the forest. Her breath came out harshly, the burning in her chest made her want to squinch her eyes.
The sound of crows caw into the silence of night, it petrified her, reminding her of horror flicks from her time, the cliché symbolism of the bird sanction an ominous atmosphere. She thought this night couldn’t get more melancholic and ghastly.
Time moved lethargically, the dots increasing at the corners of her eyes. The moon was out, a full moon with wisps of clouds surrounding it, not even the stars graced their presence to the earthly beings. She felt numb, but there was a heavy pressure on her, suffocating her, a knee crushing her stomach. Clawed hands gripped her neck, tightening with each passing second. It was difficult to breathe, difficult to shout out in pain. She could still hear the growls, but it was disappearing swiftly.
The hands released her neck, and she gasped, tears streaming down her face. A rough tongue licked the side of her face, while his hands knead her breasts harshly, claws prickling rivets of blood. She shrieked, beating her hands against his armor-covered chest helplessly. One hand disappeared and gripped her wounded leg, clasping it roughly while digging within the wound, making it wider and deeper. She stilled momentarily, the pain grueling. The next second she felt a breeze from her chest, the sound of tearing fabric ringing her ears. His mouth left her face and suckled her breast, mangling the areola causing her to sob uncontrollably at this point. Her legs kicked frantically underneath him. He was too strong, his energy imperious, his grip grievous beyond sane.
He liberated himself from her body, the insidious panting disturbing the surroundings, her cries muffled by her hands, her eyes bloodshot by the barbarity. She laid in a fetal position, pain rankled her body. Nobody should be in this situation, to be in such pain that was deemed inhumane.
“Run.”
She froze, terrified to look at the demon as he stood dominantly over her. His boot nudged her wound, she scurried away a short distance, too tired and in agony to move much more.
“Run.” He purred.
It was just all a game for him; she knew he’ll keep catching her time and time again. It was the thrill of the chase, she the prey while he’s the predator. A beast just playing with his food before it ate her. His boot pressed against the wound once again, emitting a scream from her lips. He relishes this immensely from the twisted grin on his face. She needed to get up, immediately, before he got angry and bestow her more pain and agony.
She trembled, her uninjured leg carrying most of the weight. She was terribly tired, she couldn’t possibly run. She took the first step; the rigid movement caused her to wince. Another step and she gripped the tree, her blunt nails digging into the bark.
Why was the gods punishing her, why are they letting this monster destroy her? To crush her emotional state until nothing was left but a shell, her mentality incoherent and her body ravished until it breaks? So many questions crossed her conscience, but instead of answers, she could only linger in her despair. It seems she was fated for this life, to be used and abused continuously like cattle.
Then another step, then another one, soon she was scampering through the woods, her hands bracing the barks to balance her stance. Nowhere to run now, he knew where she was heading. It was predictable. Her wound prickled, the fabric chafing against it. She felt dizzy, the migraine appearing and pounding persistently in her head. She was having difficulty breathing properly. She couldn’t think straight, couldn’t see straight when the tears gushed from her eyes, dribbling with the blood the raked her body.
She stopped at a tree to catch her breath, her body shutting down. A twig snapped behind her, signifying his presence. She couldn’t continue, not in her condition. Her stomach clenched grievously, forcing bile to rise. She heaved, wishing something came out instead of blood. She slid down against the trunk, her shoulder scraped.
Her vision swirled, the unfocused features of her aggressor indistinctive with the exception of his lilac locks.
Someone save me. She passed out in bliss unconsciousness, the pain disappearing instantaneously.
