Chapter One

A/N: So, I have tried smaller font, cutting/pasting, and a bunch of other things and nothing is fitting this chapter on the page. I know that when you cut and paste it into a word document you can read it just fine, also the printable version is ok. I'm sorry for the troubles.

Disclaimer: I Do not own and never will own Inuyasha or any other character from the manga, anime, or movies.

Kagome's journey through time began and ended with a demon who desired the jewel of four souls. Mistress Centapied drug her into the past, and the death of Naraku brought her back home to the present for good. As soon as she merged the shards together and the jewel was whole for the first time in five years, the brave miko was pulled through the well as it sealed behind her. For months she tried to go back to her other family, if only to say a final goodbye. As time wore on she tried less and less until finally the miko gave up completely. Up until that time she mourned the loss of her second family, her family beyond the well. And now beyond her reach. Even Sesshomaru and his pack were missed. Towards the end they had combined both packs to defeat Naraku together. During that time Kagome grew fond of each of them, developing respect and a sort of love for them. Once she had accepted they were gone and wouldn't be able to go back she poured herself into her studies completely. During her travels she had barely passed high school, and now she found herself a new college graduate. Not only that, but a new college graduate who was at the top of her class.

"Honey I'm so proud of you. You have really worked hard these last five years," said Mrs. Higurashi.

"I can't believe I've already found a teaching position, and at the most prestigious school in Japan," she sighed. I guess five years of living history has helped me to really succeed in school. Nothing better than living it first hand. "Who ever thought I would do so well in college..."

"Well that's what hard work gets you. Never underestimate what you are capable of. Working with kids should be a piece of cake compared to battling de..." Mrs. Higurashi paused. "Oh honey I'm sorry."

There were tears in Kagome's eyes. She had spent the past four years repressing her memories of the past; well as best she could while going into a history field. At first studying history made it difficult for her to get past her lost family, but it became easier with time to lock her memories of her group away and just draw on the rest of her past encounters. Although little reminders of her past popped up once in awhile from her family, Kagome preferred not to talk about the past. It was still so painful, and always brought tears with the pain. She sniffled and wiped her tears away. She took in a big breath and released it to recompose herself.

"Ok, so let's get this party started!" Kagome cheered halfheartedly.

The Higurashi family spent the rest of the evening celebrating Kagome's accomplishment with a few of her college friends. Once things started to wind down everyone chipped in to help with clean up.

"Well it's getting late and I need to get ready for the first day of school. Thanks mama, for everything."

"No need to thank me sweetie. Good luck and know no matter what we are all proud of you. I know you're going to be busy but come visit once in awhile."

Mother and daughter hugged and said their final goodbyes. Then Kagome was finally on her way to her new apartment.

Kagome spent her Sunday preparing her materials for the next day, and planning for the rest of the school year.

Earlier that day she had gotten a call from the school informing her she had more papers to fill out, so she should make sure to get there early enough. Kagome had asked what forms she had missed, but the secretary kept dodging her question.

I should get their early tomorrow. The secretary said they had some paperwork for me. I want to make sure I have time to set up my room as well. It is really odd that they didn't have me fill this information out when I was firest hired. I thought they had all my information. What more could they possibly want?

"Well I think I'm as prepared as I am going to get," Kagome said to herself. "It's probably time to go to bed since I have to be up earlier than usual."

With that she made her way to her small bedroom. She had always loved Western beds more than a futon on the ground. So when she moved into her new apaprtment she made sure to buy one. Her room was decorated in different shades of blue. The curtains matched the deep royal blue of her comforter. She also had a rug near the foot of her bed that matched the sheets, which were baby blue; curtains, and her pillows; with varying shades, much like the rug. The carpet, furniture, and walls the only things that were saved from the blue take over.

Kagome pulled out a pair of shorts and a cotton tank for bed and changed. She then slowly mader her way to her bed and pulled back the covers. Once they were neatly organized she slipped in between the sheets. It didn't take long for sleep to find her and throw her into dreams of the past.

*"Where am I?" Kagome asked herself. "Hello? Is anyone there?"

She could feel a presence with her in the inky darkness, but she couldn't see where it was coming from. Then out of no where she was in a clearing with the one thing she never wanted to remember or see again.

"The final battle... the final day," she choked out as tears filled her eyes. "No, make it stop I don't want to see this!" She yelled, though no one could hear her.

She watched as everyone battled fiercely; the inu brothers finally fighting as one. And what a sight it was. Miroku and Sango were a little further away, fighting off Naraku's pawns and Sango's brother Kohaku. Luckily for Miroku the samyoshou were destroyed. He continued to suck up as many demons as he could, but Kohaku kept getting in the way which made things more difficult. Sango was fighting off her brother, trying to talk him back from Naraku's hold.

Sadly there were already casualties. Kagura had tried to fight with the inu group, but Naraku smashed her heart once the tides started to turn against him. She fell instantly, but had taken out her fair share before her demise. Kikyou was also gone. Her soul collectors shredded by Naraku, and Kanna drawing what souls she had left into her mirror. But Kanna wasn't able to keep Kikyou's portion of Kagome's soul from returning to the young miko.

While the battle was raging on in the open field, Rin and Shippo were taking refuge at the edge of the woods. Jaken, Ah Un, and Kirara were surrounding the young ones. Inside the coral Shippo stood over Rin in case the outer perimeter was breached.

Finally Kagome turned to see a much younger version of herself standing protectively over the wolf prince. Kouga's legs had been shredded in Naraku's pursuit of the two jewel shards that were held within those legs. Sadly the hanyou's attempts were successful. Now Naraku held an almost completed jewel. The only shards left were the few Kagome was able to find, and the one in Kohaku's back. Though, everyone knew that Naraku would take possession of it once he gained Kagomes.

The new college graduate stood near by watching herself string arrow after arrow. Aiming either at demons coming near her and Kouga, or at Naraku's tentacles trying to give the brothers an opening for attack. With her complete soul the young miko could feel the sizeable chunk of jewel calling to her. Unkike the jewels previous protector, Kagome held a special bond with it. After all it was born as a part of her. She realized she could call the jewel back to her.

Naraku was enjoying the battle. The brothers couldn't touch him. He loved how he could use his doll against the demon exterminator; her pain brought him much pleasure. The wolf prince's shards were now his, and he was able to get rid of his treacherous incarnation. His only obstacle was the damn miko. Kanna was supposed to suck up the half of her soul that Kikyou had held. But she had failed him. It was ok for now though. She was being sufficiently distracted protecting the wolf. Out of nowhere he felt the jewel being pulled from his body.

"How is this possible!?" He roared.

Everyone watched on as the jewel slowly left his body making its way to the furturistic miko. As it grew closer and closer to Kagome Naraku made a grab for it. The two brothers took the chance to destroy him while he was distracted with the jewel. Inuyasha let loose the Wind Scar while Sessohmaru used his Tokigin. Both attacks slammed together, making a deadly path towards the hanyou that was evil beyond measure. By the time Naraku noticed the attack coming his way, he had not time to react. Suddenly the most blood curdling scream was ripped from his lips.

Once the dust settled Naraku was nowhere to be seen. There was nothing left. By that time Kagome had plucked the partially finished jewel from the air purifying it instantly, and fusing her shards with it. All that was left was the shard that gave life to Kohaku.

Kagome watched on as her family began to celebrate their victory, but she knew better... no one had noticed how Kohaku's body fell lifelessly to the ground when Naraku had been killed. They were all too distracted to notice him rise, this time with Naraku's tentacles growing from his back. The evil hanyou always had a backup plan. Once again he took over the poor boy's body. But Kagome knew, and watched as sobs racked her body, already knowing what was about to happen.

Out of nowhere Kohaku's weapon cut through the group. Everyone turned to the possessed boy. Sango fell to her knees tears pouring down her face. There was no way to save the boy now. The inu group took up defensive positions around what used to be Sango's younger brother; the boy's body now housing the greatest evil ever known. Knowing there was nothing else she chould do, the young miko notched her bow, taking aim as tears started to flow down her face. Kagome slowly pulled the bow string back, her powers flairing to life. She would have only one chance. Before her eyes became too blurry with tears or she lost nerve, she let the arrow fly.*

Throughout the night Kagome constantly tossed and turned, thrashing about as if trying to escape someone or something. Her body was covered in a thin sheen of sweat with tears trailing down her cheeks. All of a sudden her eyes opened wide and she threw herself up into a sitting position breathing harshly.

Why did I have THAT dream again? It's been four years since I've seen that. Why again? Why now?

She looked over to her alarm clock on the night stand.

"Four in the morning... ugh."

As she said that she flopped back down onto her bedding, pulling the covers back up over her shivering form. The chill in the air didn't mix well with her sweat covered form. Kagome laid there in her bed for several minutes before sleep claimed her once again; this time pulling her into a much more peaceful sleep, the nightmares of the past completely fortgotten.
